Hi, I have been following this thread for a few months now because I also want the i760. I just registered so I can share the little info that I had received. I stopped into a verizon store a few days ago and talked to the manager that I kind of know. I asked him about the i760 and this is what he said. "my samsung rep came in this morning with her boss. The 2 of them told me that the i760 will not be released in July for sure. They did say that it will be released in Aug. for sure" He then told me that his rep's boss had the i760 and that he let him play around with it for a few minutes. He told me that he was waiting for the 6800 but now that he saw the i760, he changed his mind because the i760 is so sweet.
I hope I got all the model #'s right and my story makes sense. I have never posted on a forum before but I just thought that I would relay this info. Take it for what it is worth. I cannot confirm anything. This is just what I was told. Thanks
Interesting in that it is VZ Navigator not GIN that is also presenting a problem for the 8830 and opening up the GPS on that phone. I wish they'd quit trying to cram their own stuff on the phones, as that more than testing seems to be the constraint. But this is preaching to the choir.
What in the world are people going to need get it now for on a pda phone that already is capable of installing 3rd party software out of the box. What are they going to do? Disable this too!?
I just got a call from VZW telemarketing trying to get me to re-up for another year. Just for fun I said that I was waiting to see any new pda phones to come out.
VZW: Which one is that?
Me: The Samsung i760.
VZW: Hmmm. I'm not familiar with that one. When is it coming out?
Me: That's what I was hoping you could tell me!
Just for fun, I emailed by rep again today, and tried to feed him some BS just to see how he responded...

Let's stay in touch about it.

Don't be timid. We are happy for any leaks we can get.
Ok guys, here is the deal, I've seen the i760 at the CES on Jan. of this year and waited until now and still not available! The damn iPhone came before this damn thing!
So, here is my plan, I still have a 8 months left with Verizon, so I am going to get the BB 8830 for now so I can use it overseas. By April of 2008, I will switch to AT&T so I can fondle the iPhone and at the same time the BB 8820 with wifi! How sweet is that?!?! I am tired of reading the forum everyday in hopes of seeing the release of the i760!
Thanks for reading!!!
MRAILING EDIT - I removed the title for this post, since this doesn't comply with the house rules. Do NOT use foul language here, even if you * it. It's uncalled for and unnecessary in a forum for PDA Phones.

If you've been reading every day, you would have seen mrailing's post a few days ago directing people to cease using curse words with asterisk's substituted for individual letters.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot...
I pressed the DTS guy about the get it now and said I heard that is what was holding up the i760. He then said "I guess you are on that forum that has more info than us" and then said "the version of get it now that will be on the PDA phones will be different and better than the versions on the regular mobiles and the the current Q and 700W/WX would be the 1st to have VZ Navigator available"
OK, I am done now...
More example of Verizon greed, Why do they think I want to pay them for services that are otherwise available free in the internet?

Didn't someone mention there would be a big announcement before release? Perhaps this is it? But I thought none of the PDA phones had the chip in question? Ah, what do I know except I don't have a 760 yet!
I am starting to think that negotiations with Broadcom might have had something to do with this i760 holdup as well as GIN and other accesories sold separately. The strategy behind the Verizon-Broadcom deal probably had to be put to bed before product pricing could begin, in order for VZW to achieve its price margin goals. I cant believe I am saying this, but I am actually impressed with this VZW move. Although $6 a device isn't a drop in the bucket to them, they made sure that they got past the problem and hopefully they will soon move on to other announcements.....
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I still cannot get my Phone Home FIX at my office. Sent a message to forum moderator and am STILL LOCKED OUT from work. HELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP
I have a question for you all ..
I'm leaving this job at the beginning of August and they have a good discount on VZW plans. I was thinking I'd get a treo on a new PDA plan, and hope that the 760 comes out within 30 days or just sell the treo when the 760 comes out, instead of waiting and missing my plan discount. Agree or disagree?

Just wait; then get and keep the new Treo 800. it will most likely be released before the I760
After all the excitement today with the rumored delay, I emailed our B2B rep, who is the National Sales Manager for our region, so he seems to typically be "in the know". Anyway, here is our email dialog...
Hey there (name withheld), I’m hearing rumors of an ever increasingly delayed Samsung i760. Have you heard anything lately? -I’m totally geeked for this phone, but if it’s going to be much longer I might have to give GSM a wurl for all of our company PDA lines! Please let me know what you’re hearing. Thanks!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We had a meeting regarding all upcoming devices this morning and I haven't heard anything on the i760 that would warrant a delay (mid August release still). Corporate is VERY excited about this phone! You will be blown away with all that is new on this device. If you like your 730, you will LOVE the 760! This will be the standard in CDMA devices for the business professional.
I would urge you to avoid GSM. If you're use to the speed and quality of the i730 that you have today, your experience with the iphone, or any ATT phone, will be significantly different. The coverage on voice will be negligible (maybe), but the difference on data speeds is day and night.
The biggest downfall to the iPhone is the network that it runs on. MSNBC Video
The data transmission rate on the EDGE network is about 80-100kbps compared to EVDO at 500-800kbps (80-120kbps upload). They have a display in the Apple stores that are connected to the Wi-Fi inside their store that perform really well. If you want to get a better depiction of how they'll operate in the real work you can disable the Wi-Fi and enable the EDGE.
Questions???
I spoke to our account rep again today and he said the above mentioned "mid August" date is still valid and there should be a firm internal date in the next "week or two". He also said it didnt look like there would be any type of "official" announcement from VZW prior to the b2b/soft release. He speculated that this could be due to the fact that they want to get any bugs worked out before any marketing push to avoid negative press. He said the b2b release should be 2 weeks prior to the general release. He reiterated that Verizon is very high on this device and there will be a considerable push once it is released.
So there you go. Take it for what's worth. Just another i760 "rumor" for the i760 "rumor thread", nothing too exciting like, say, a random bee gees post...
Maybe the GIN for the i760 is not the same as the regular GIN. Let's hope it's at least somewhat useful like easy access to purchase applications that we WOULD buy for our phone from (gasp) Handango (I know..) or Pocketgear. If you go to the VZW site and log into your account, and lets say you have the
i730, it does have a link for applications for the i730 that bring you to the Handango site.
It's definately different, we've heard it from reliable sources a few times now. I really don't see how it can be something SO useful that I would care for it. To me, it's like carrying around a Target in your pocket. I don't want a Target in my pocket! I want to buy some small item and LEAVE Target! Having Target in my pocket is just obtrusive and I didn't ask for or want it in any way!
