But how easy will it be to type in names to look up contacts while driving 70 or 80 mph It's not too hard with the vertical slider.
Yeah, I do it all the time AND I have a car with bluetooth and a bluetooth sync'd phonebook.
It's just that with 400+ contacts it's easier to start typing the name then dial than it is to use the scroll wheel on my steering wheel to click through them one at a time, then have it go back to the beginning if you got a busy signal, etc...
WITH A CDMA RADIO IN IT
THAT SUPPORTS EVDO REV A
AND USES AN SD CARD INSTEAD OF MINI/MICROSD (OK I got greedy)
AND IT IS ALMOST PERFECT.
WHY MESS IT UP???
HELLO SAMSUNG??! SEE THIS? PLEASE USE THIS MODEL AS SPECIFIED WITH AN OPTIONAL CAMERA IN IT THIS TIME. WE WANTS IT WE NEEEDZ IT! IF NOT, YOU CAN WATCH MY $MONEY$ AS WELL AS OTHER PEOPLES $MONEY$ GO BYE BYE.
Ps: I added the word SAMSUNG to his original post where it originally was aimed at VERIZON
If they have the camera be optional, as in not just make a GSM version, or a CDMA version of the phone avaliable, but also camera versions for at least the CDMA and/or GSM, they will be able to heavily market not just buisnesses but also regular tech lovers/users who want photo contacts, sharing, and web cam usage..the option accounts for the fact that their are many who state they can't have cameras in at their jobs, unless of course the buisness allows cameras and/or web conferencing as well. Two cameras would be great I think, one for web cam the other for photos as they do in the korean models.
Actually, it's VZW's call. With ~60mm subscribers, any CDMA handset-maker would develop and produce to VZW's specs, including form-factor. As usual, buying power rules.
What we observe, though, is that VZW (and the other US carrier sheep) really don't operate this way, a shame. They're remarkably ignorant about industrial design, feature sets, operating systems, applications software, mobile solutions, and usability.
Carrier people with the authority to make these decisions lack vision and "touch." What they do is let device houses hatch new platforms and present them for evaluation. Then, they hack away at functionality, either to save 15¢ or to relieve anal stress, or both...
Thus, a firm like Sammy feels it's under pressure to reinvent the wheel each year. Lacking marketing skills and enlightened VZW guidance, it doesn't know it's obliged to carry on with the ix30 platform. Nobody told 'em the truth.
The right move for Sammy would be to offer, á la Nikon, a system. With this approach, Sammy would deploy two or three platform variants, and a family of add-ons and accessories, and stake its claim for PPC leadership once-and-for-all. With awesome vertical integration, it could dismiss HTC with the wave of a wand.
Ultimately, what we're all looking for is the Era of Choice. It will occur when subscribers take away from carriers their impermissible, insufferable, and innovation-stifling role in hardware distribution.
I DITTO THIS! HELLO VERIZON?!? LOOK HERE PLEASE OR WATCH THE MONEY GO BYE BYE FROM MORE PEEPS THAN JUST ME!
I think it's time to move on....This device looks old.
You will be very supprised how well you will like the new look and key board when it's released.

For one thing you need to be driving 100 mph with your eyes closed and dialing the phone with one hand!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Voice Command?
I still have trouble with robot-speak on certain names. I can mimic how it pronounces Verizon (accent on the first syllable and a short i), but can't get it right for others.

I hope that with the working relationship between Apple and AT&T This may start to change. Currently manufactures have to walk on egg shells with the cell service providers or lose business. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

My signature says it all......
The consumer and the device manufacturers need to stand together!
We want the device manufacturers to design and build and sell their devices independently from the cell service providers.
My eyes have seen the coming of the glory of the ............."

The i760 seems a bit ugly compared to its Euro Counterpart. I can deal with ugly, but can I deal with the horizontal keyboard? I don't know. I like the idea of thinner but is thin worth it when I have to purchase new memory cards? I imagine it would cost about 400 dollars WITH the NE2 deal. Another 100 at least for the memory card. 500 bucks for thinness and a possibly as new OS. I think I like my i730 alot.
If it wasn't clear, be advised that both the SGH-760 (GSM) and the SCH-i760 (CDMA) switch from SD to microSD flash memory cards.
While the microSD drive sub-system is less bulky than SD or miniSD, this is a poor engineering decision--both for reasons of capacity and durability. In particular, microSD cards are fragile and not designed for frequent insertion and removal.
I bought a 1 GB microSd card for $17 bux at Fry's so, they are not real expensive. as for repeated removal and insertion, I never (maybe once per month) remove my SD card from my I730.

I saw it, but after seeing the i760 with the fully exposed number pad, thinner form factor and D pad that's easier to use in horizontal mode, in addition to my believe that the Samsung has a better build quality, I'm holding out for the i760.
Here's another great aspect of the number pad. You can see in this picture that the phone is in camera mode. Rather than having to use the touchscreen or onerous menus to access various camera settings, it appears that you can access 9 different functions simply by pressing the appropriate number on the number pad. Seems like they're taking advantage of the exposed keyboard for better one-handed use. Hopefully this will extend to other applications other than the camera.

I saw this too, and was impressed by it. Even with the horizontal keyboard, I think Samsung is planning some stuff to really make this the best device available. When watching all the videos of the keyboard sliding out, it looks like it has the same type of mechanism that we currently use, and not a friction slider like the HTC devices have. I am excited to see one in person and really compare the size of it to the 6800 and to the i730...
