kinda off topic and i know you guys like to keep on topic lol but how true are the rumors of the Palm 755p release at the end of the month because engadgetmobile just posted someone sent a tip in that it was now thinking back to the blackberry 8830 release and chocolate vzw doesnt want to release pdas etc at the same time and that would deffinetly change when the i760 is coming out i hope this isnt true

If the 755p is truly released at the end of the month, we can only hope that VZW views Palm OS and WM devices differently. If I remember correctly, the i730 was released shortly after the Treo 650 was released. I don't remember the time gap, though.

Yes, its looking like the Treo 755P will be at the end of this month, and the 760 will be sometime in the middle or end of August.
Come to think of it, that spreadsheet that was posted a while back here and on Hofo was probably spot on for the release date!
I stand corrected on my last post. I just did a quick search on Google and learned that the Treo 650 release date was mid May vs. mid July for the i730. Even worse, the 8830 was available in stores at the end of May and, gulp, the Engadget rumor post said the Treo 755 will be available at end of this month (2 months following 8830 availability). On the bright side, if memory serves me correctly, the 700w and 6700 were released at the same time.
Hopefully, the previously posted information about VZW keeping 2 months space between pda release dates isn't true. I am of the mindset that VZW's approach has changed in light of the iPhone, and that VZW would prefer to begin an all out pda release/marketing blitz to try and quell any iPhone enthusiasm that may remain at this point.
well if that 2 month rule is true then those rumors of september might be very true i think ima cry on this one because i was lookin forward to the i760 on or near my bday and today is my bday btw btu ima try to be patient its hard tho
Okay. I'm not as savvy at these VZW fact (rumor) finding missions as most of you, but I was talking to my corporate rep this morning (we are a big corp) and he seemed to know more about the 6800 than the i760 (although admitted that he had no idea when either would be released). This seems counter to the i760 then xv6800 release order. Take that FWIW, which is very little.
With all these people saying different things, I am only going to take Ethans "end of july" estimate seriously. Everybody else in the world is saying from any day now to sep. 4th.
well, as we can all see, nothing new arrived today (the i760 and q9) were both possiblities... i have been checking both the regular vzw and the testman sites all day today...
let's all hope "ethan" is right (he usually is...)
I just got back from the Verizon Wireless Store. They have been told they are coming soon but do not know of a launch date yet. They also advised that it will be available on the Internet up to 1 week before they are in the stores.
I think we should all kick in a buck and the first person to post a real link or Ad takes home the booty.
Although, I have seen some of the groups photoshop image manipulation so maybe the "Ad" isn't such a good idea. And then I figure someone will create a fake Verizon web site just to be first and claim the $3.00.

Really? When? Let me first say, I hope that "Ethan" is right about the current "end of July" prediction, if that is still the most current. I have no doubt whatsoever that he is who he is purported to be, and that he is truthful in providing what information he does. Having said that, he obviously (and admittedly) does not have the best information and is not actually involved in the release decision. Even if what he says is accurate when he says it, things clearly change, as has every date he has given. I went back through posts to see what he has said, and it started back in April or early May with "soon," "this month," "may," "end of may," "still end of may," to the current July, end of July, still end of July, etc.
I don't think it is a question of the source or even the information he has. I think it is just the nature of the way VZW seems to release phones. I don't think they really even make an effort to just pick a release date and stick with it. Instead they seem to have a general idea of a window they are shooting for, maybe set a date later, and then push it back if they don't feel completely ready. It prevents much of an accurate forecast or release date leak from anyone until right up before it happens.
Having said all of that, I greatly appreciate our inside friends like Ethan who share what they have. It is what makes this thread and this game interesting. Unfortunately, it is also what has kept me without a new pda phone since October!

i haven't been that active on here (until recently) so i never heard of ethan until this thread. can some old timer make a list of ethan's predictions that were spot on.
Well the ban isn't an issue anymore... if it ever was...

Broadcom and Verizon Wireless Enter into Licensing Agreement Allowing Verizon Wireless to Offer Cell Phones Banned by ITC; Companies Announce Broad-based Strategic Alliance

Verizon Wireless ceases efforts to overturn ITC ban on Qualcomm products
IRVINE, Calif. and NEW YORK, July 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- "Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM - News) and Verizon Wireless, an affiliate of Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ - News), today announced a licensing agreement that permits the continued importation and sale by Verizon Wireless of mobile devices that are the subject of the current litigation between Broadcom and Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM - News) before the U.S. International Trade Commission.
The agreement allows Verizon Wireless, the largest wireless provider in the country by revenue, to sell new handsets and other wireless devices, ensuring the availability of the latest cell phone technology in handsets and personal digital assistants (PDAs) to consumers and businesses.
Under the agreement, Verizon Wireless will make payments to Broadcom at a rate of $6.00 for each 1xEV-DO handset, PDA or data card sold after the effective date, subject to a maximum payment of $40 million per calendar quarter and a lifetime maximum payment of $200 million. The agreement provides Verizon a license to the six Broadcom patents currently being litigated between Broadcom and Qualcomm. Other terms and conditions of the agreement are confidential.
As a result of the agreement, Verizon Wireless will also cease its efforts to overturn the ITC's recent order banning Qualcomm chips and certain cell phones based on those chips from importation, and will withdraw Verizon Wireless's motion to stay that same ITC remedy previously filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
"We are pleased to have worked out an agreement with Broadcom to ensure continued delivery of new and innovative products to our customers," said Lowell C. McAdam, President and Chief Executive Officer of Verizon Wireless. "A market-based solution, like the one our two companies have announced today, is the most effective way to resolve these kinds of intellectual property
This answers why we never saw Verizon's name on some of those lists. I'd be willing to bet this also affected launch dates due to Verizon trying to show so "good will" during the negotiation phase.
