There is no reason to be complaining or bickering in this thread. This is a RUMOR thread for the i760, so Rumors are around and speculation happens, and if the topic stays on the i760, then good.
A device like this is meant for all types of people, people needing a camera and people not needing a camera. The i730 didn't have one and there was a HUGE complaint thread (actually close to 100 of them) about the lack of a camera and the hopes of a camera version. I would say the majority of people want a camera on their phone these days, and there is a very small group that doesn't, and hopefully Verizon will continue to offer at least one device without a camera for those people.
Sure there will also be some users from all different groups wanting different things from their device, and that is why there are tons of different designs and models out there, otherwise if one device could meet everyones expectations, then there would only be one device...
Now recently there have been a LOT of new users here, as well as long time users, using ***** to represent cussing. We don't need it here. It's the same as the language itself, and if you are using that language, then most likely your post is going to be confrontational to other people. We ask that you refrain from that poor use of terms for MANY reasons. 1. Keeping this work safe, as many people view this from work. 2. Keeping this family safe, as many people view this from a home PC, that many people can view, 3. It's just not needed, there are PLENTY of other words you can use to express your opinions, no matter how mad you are.
Again, this IS a Release/Rumor thread, this is the way things go in here, everyone expresses their opinions, and they might differ from your own, and they might be completely off base. We all want the same thing, the i760 released from Verizon, and bashing each other and arguing over little stuff isn't going to help things out, especially if you piss that person off, and they could help you in the future.
Again, Mark_A_K created a thread you can joke around in to pass the time, and let's keep this on task with information. I have ALWAYS hated these threads because of the off-track nature of them, and the constant hot air being moved around by people who just want to see their post count go up, or get in the last word. This really shouldn't be the thread to do that in, since this is where people are going to try and actually find out information about the upcoming device, and they have to weed through these posts, and not to mention, making it harder to get to the information at hand.
If you want to argue about stuff, make a new thread and discuss it like civilized people, in the i760 forum, if it pertains to it, or the lounge if it's about Verizon in general (or about grammar/spelling).
So again, this is another request, take your discussions to the proper place so that when information is released about the i760, we will know it, and we can follow up on it, and not have to read through 100 posts to find the one little bit of information that we need...

With all due respect, to both of you.. Get your heads out of your *****
I AM a digital photographer, Web Developer, Software developer, Designer, Artist and Small BUSINESS owner. I NEED a camera on my BUSINESS device; no matter how small (But come one, my i700 bought nearly 7 years ago had 1.3mpx). I can NOT always carry my Nikon with me everywhere I go--and inspiration strikes at the most un-opportune moments.
Stop thinking your Armani and tie (or briefcase) grants you the rights as the ONLY BUSINESS-minded people worthy of a "so-fis-ta-ma-cated" device.
I'm sorry to be so blunt, but I think a lot of folks joining into this "anticipation rally '07" are getting a little carried away. None of you have the phone, few of you have seen the phone, even less of you have held/worked with the phone. Please, stop waxing-intellectual about opinions that mean only so much to you and a very small portion of others here.
Again, I really don't mean to offend. But I think it's stupid when people seem to want the whole world to function only in their capacity (rather, limitations).
Amen brother!

to get this sort of back on topic, when the i760 is released with WM6, which programs will no longer be needed or will you no longer use? the i730 was my learning phone and i learned that i do not need to cram every program i can on to my phone. at one point, i had more than 50 programs on my i730, most of course on the storage card. some of it, like phonealarm, etc. was used to add functionality, but most of it was just unnecessary.
which utilities will WM6 make obsolete or less needed? i anticipate a much better user experience with my next phone just by limiting the crap i put on it.

Probably the 3rd party mail programs are going to fizzle. The sole purpose for ProfiMail and/or WebIS was for viewing HTML and pictures inline. Now I see no purpose with the new and improved email.
Some things will be in the ROM like VoiceCommand and LiveSearch. Rumor has it that Microsoft has also licensed the RealAudio format from Real. I believe it when I see it.
Past that, it won't be much more different than WM5.
Somebody today at GearDiary did a long review of the Mogul (6800). The Sprint HTC Mogul Review at Gear Diary
If you scroll down quite a ways, he goes through a lot of goodies that is in WM6. This might help you. It did for me (side not: I did not know that the 6800 does not have a ear jack. That is the kiss of death for me, but this i760 land and not 6800 land).

I have seen many software companies either release beta software, or have the software stamped for WM6. I hope that they move forward and have a lot of it ready by the time we have the i760.
As far as making stuff less needed? Hmmm. From what I have seen, we still need a profile software and a notification software (something like PhoneAlarm, SPB PhoneSuite). If they have improved Picsel Browser, then we might not need another browser software, or document software. I haven't seen or heard about any new games, so I will still have to include some other games. Map software, nothing included yet, but Microsoft's Live search should include some of it, and I think it will be on there, if not we have Google Maps, and others. MSN messenger will be on there, but of course it will be missing AIM, YAHOO, ICQ, etc, so you might still want your IM software. Sling Player won't be included, so there is an install.
Now as far as tweaks... Hopefully we won't need any CPU scaling....... Dialparser, hopefully this will be fixed and it won't cause dialing issues when connected or connecting... We might still be able to do some registry tweaking to improve speed/performance, as well as setting up a device to be more memory friendly (moving IE cache etc.), so probably once we find out some tweaks a new MRailing Phone Tools will show up... We shouldn't need a Time Zone fix, so we won't have to worry about that (you are applying that after a hard reset on your current device right?). Voice Command is "suppose" to be included on the i760, instead of Voice Signal, as this was an addon module available from Microsoft for the WM6 OS, so hopefully this is true and we all get Microsoft Voice Command pre-installed in ROM (no more 4 MB of used Main Memory). Also maybe Media Player will be updated or can be updated to run DIVX, XVID and other files of that type, then we wouldn't need a software like TCPMP.
And one can HOPE the TXT Message ability of the i760 will be enhanced, otherwise a threaded TXT application will be needed, which many are available....
I am also looking forward to the advancements in Exchange 2007 and syncing with a WM6 device (YAY for HTML mail!). But this should be across the board improvements, and will require your place to have Exchange 2007...
I ran down my most used software packages, so hopefully it will be a lighter load on the device, with some of that stuff in ROM... But still it's not known about everything yet...

you know the i760 doesn't have an ear jack either...right? If Samsung has stuck with current solutions, they will be combining the charge, sync, and headphone jack on the same proprietary port found on the BlackJack, M610, and other phones. It's a long, flat, almost blade-like connector.

Actually it does have a headphone jack, but doesn't have an IR Port:

You may be right, however if you look at the photo thread here:
you will see a headphone jack cover that looks just like the cover on the i730. It seems (to my untrained eye) that it will have its own headphone jack. My guess is Samsung's typical 2.5mm. But it is just a guess.
I love that photo, shows the thickness next to the Blackjack, and if you have held a blackjack, it's a TON smaller than the i730, and this just shows the size difference.
Even if it's mm difference, every bit helps IMO, especially without the antenna, which to me is reason enough to upgrade...

DOH!!!! Why is it I (obviously incorrectly) remember someone who handled the phone saying there was no jack. Man, this has all gone on so long and I've obviously confused myself by reading about the i760 and xv6800 back and forth.
other than the demo i saw and played with last month at VZW's mobility tour, i think your right, the phone really doesn't exist, it's just a figment of our imagination. Something we would like to have if someone were to design something.
I'm sure you'll still figure out a way to break it...sorry I couldn't resist.

There are lots of us former Treo users that are hooked on the threaded text messaging. I know I miss it tremendously.
I know there were a couple of apps for the Q, but they currently don't work. I'm assuming Mike was saying there are several apps that give a threaded view of your SMS messages for PPC as well.
Unless the i760 has some built in enhancement, several ppl will want an app that presents SMS messages in threaded form.
