You can see it slide, with ease, and they present some more information about it. You see it flipping around, but they said "no touchscreen, it's going to run Windows Mobile Smartphone OS." You can see the stylus hole right where Patrick points and says he likes the outside keyboard.

So again, conflicting information.... But with Sascha reporting it's Smartphone OS, then it might be Smartphone OS....
I think I read somewhere that MS is adding touchscreen support to the smartphone OS. Perhaps that is the reason for all the confusion; it's going to be a smartphone edition with a touchscreen.

smartphone?

Although he repeatedly calls it a smartphone... he also thinks it is going to be priced around the same as the Q... 199.00. No way!!! Not a chance. So, taking that into effect... I think it is very plausible that it is still a touchscreen and he was hopefully misinformed.

The more I see of the i760, the more I like the form factor. The one inexplicable aspect of the hardware design is that there are only 2 "soft key" buttons on the front of the phone. That will be bad.

Thumbs down Too Short Stylus

And that is too short to be usable by me. Even if it did extend to the length of the i730 stylus, it would have to be made of titanium to have sufficient strength.

Too many dropped balls for this phone, I fear.

At least the i730 was a truely discernible upgrade from the i700.

Question Folks, with Verizon lowering the price of the i730 to $199, does that give us any hope that the next batch of smartphones is around the corner?
Also, they seem to be revamping there website saying that it will be down for the next couple of days, anyone think this may be related to the new phones coming? Or am I just hoping too much?

I've just lost all enthusiasm regarding Crossbow. This video shows that Crossbow may have an even worse lag time than WM5.0.

The video is of Crossbow running on a Wizard? The Wizard is a 195Mhz Processor that the XDA Wiki calls "horribly underpowered". That and I'm sure it's probably not an optimized build of Crossbow...

It's an HTC Universal, which has virtually identical specs to the i730. But it's not an official ROM, it's a leaked ROM. It may not be code complete, and who knows how much hacking was required to get it to run. Remember how slow the i730 WM 5 port was before Autostep/XCPUScalar?

Short Brighthand review here. http://www.brighthand.com/default.asp?newsID=12745

He points out the same contradictions noted above. He was told used smartphone os, but it has a stylus, which would then be pointless. He said it wasn't operable, so he could learn any more. Maybe the Verizon reps just weren't told much, as someone else said is often the case. Sounds like it's really a work in progress, and we probably won't see it for awhile and find out what it really does.

The Brighthand reviewer did end with this:

"The i760 is probably the best looking device I saw at CES, and it's one I could see myself owning one day."

Quick question, on previous posts it was reported that the 760 was wifi capable, even some of the spec sheets from other sites are showing that. Why now are people saying that it is not? I have yet to see anything that says that.

I think they are inferring it from the small size and the fact that wifi on the 1730 eats batteries. The smaller size of the i760 would make this worse.

Samsung i760

Samsung sent me a direct email yesterday showing the i760. All of the web info showed the phone with keyboard sliding out the bottom, but this email showed it on the side. Hopefully Verizon will get the phone. Like my 700 and 730, it will be expen$ive, late intro, and a year wait for WM upgrade.

There's a thread about items down that's covering the i760. Please share the pictures/info contained in the email.

Dude, you could've scanned the document and added it to your thread, did they have a release date or details of specs?

Is anything coming out with Verizon before may? This is really ridiculous that I have settle on a 2 year old device 6700/i730 if I want a PDA/Phone from verizon before then.

Actually neither the i730 or the 6700 are two years old yet. The i730 was released at the end of June 2005 to businesses and the 6700 came out after that, either in August or September (as they released it with WM5 on it, which is why it came out later).

I agree that getting a new PDA phone will be nice, but typically the life of PDA devices are 2-3 years, since business adopt these devices and don't cycle them as much as the "regular" users do with normal cell phones. So the shelf life and usable life is longer for PDA phones than with "regular" phones. The i700, i600, and XV6600 were out for a long time before the next devices came out as replacements.
