Have there been any reports/rumors regarding the Sprint version of this phone? I know VZW has 6 month exclusivity, so it will be a while before the Sprint version will see the light of day, but I was wondering if anyone heard whether or not Sprint will keep the CDMA/GSM dual radios or go with WiFi like VZW instead? I have an i830w and am anxiously waiting for the update! As soon as VZW releases theirs the countdown starts for me!
The SCH-i760 only has the CDMA & WiFi radios. No GSM.
As of now, there are no clear upgrades for the SCH-i830 (CDMA/GSM) for either VZW or Sprint.
4) You've got to be kidding me when you say that the i760 does the same thing as the iPhone. Maybe the selling points that you are interested in cross over, but the iPhone has its crazy touchscreen, super sexy body, slick interface, great internet, blah blah blah blah blah. Geez, we could write a book about why these phones are different. I don't need to keep going, there are many before me who have posted why these phones are different.
The i760 doesnt have great internet? I know one thing for sure, it will be connecting at faster speeds. Sure the iPhone is much sexier (which I stated in my post), but the i760 will play music, will surf the web, AND allows you to install 3rd party apps and have email access. So again, why wouldn't Verizon position their closest thing to the iPhone as a competitor to it. In my opinion, they could easily say that you can have top notch service, plus a pretty cool phone.
EDIT: Is the touch screen really that big of a deal? Aren't most of us stoked about the i760 because it has a front dial pad? Haven't people reported that typing on the iPhone is a pain in the @$$? I guess I am just lost when it comes to the iPhone. While it is a neat device with some cool technology, I have no interest in ever owning one.
Most of the links do not have any information yet, but I haven't gone through all of them.
[EDIT]
None of the links have any information. However, if you view the drop down section on the top (under Step 4), you can select different carriers and phones. In this case, Verizon and SCH-I760 are selected.
This is what I was talking about last night. I actually went to the same link that I had visited during the day yesterday. Around noon Pacific, it was low-res, low quality. Later in the evening, from the same computer, and what I'm pretty sure was the same link (got it from this thread) it went to a much higher quality page. It appeared to me that they had maybe thrown something up there, then updated it with something more like what we'd see for other phones they are maketing. This kind of thing makes it much more real to me, but still not going to get my hopes up too much.
So just how many birthdays are we going to celebrate that day...?
Mark
Well, as much as I want to tell my wife to order my cake, I still think it's a bit a premature. We've all gotten our hopes up before with rumors of release dates only to be let down later when the rumors proved not to be accurate (sometimes just due to VZW's delays). I'm just going to sit tight and not get my hopes up again.
This talk of birthdays, though, has me thinking (a dangerous thing for a lawyer, I know ). If someone at VZW were really astute, they would use this birthday idea as a marketing ploy. How about a commercial with roughly 100 of us encircling a giant birthday cake holding up our brand new i760s? They might even have 760 candles laid out on the case so it reads "SCH-i760." Pastor Tim, you're good with Photoshop. Can you do a mock-up for us?

AAAAAAAGH!!!
OK..."great internet" wasn't very specific. That one little point was just mentioning what others here and in many other reviews is a better ppc internet interface (some say the best). I thought the fact that the internet SERVICE is lacking was just implied.
Regarding your reply, I've never been talking about which phone is BETTER than the other. I'm in love with the i760 for now, but not because it doesn't have the cool touch screen. I love it because of it's many other tools/uses that we've spent months cataloging. I have been talking about how they are MARKETING the phones, and I hope your future replies will stop disagreeing with me while the information that your giving, although not applicable to what I was saying, is actually halfway agreeing with my opinions.
I don't post often but find the information here very interesting, and I spend a lot of time reading (This thread specifically). I posted because I thought I had a reasonable point to add to the conversation, and I appreciate a couple thoughtful responses. Please try to see the general subject of the post (avoid nitpicking little details) and try to read around my lacking writing. It'll make less of a joke out of my rare post and avoid cluttering up this thread.
I would have to agree. From a Marketing standpoint, it seems like they would need a little time to get the campaign together, commercials shot, print designed and coordinated, and the positioning done to set the i760 as a competitor to the iPhone. Hopefully, Verizon tries to compete on handset price!
Hopefully that part won't be too hard. Last I checked, one of those other i-devices was going for $600 with the 2 year contract.
Breath taken. I've spent a lot of time here, and I have great respect for those who contribute often and in valuable ways - seriously. I admit, there's an awkwardness to coming out of the "lurker closet", but I have wanted to contribute to this forum that I have taken so much from. Being a relative noob to posting, I appreciate the pat on the back.

From the tone of your post, you made it sound as if the iPhone was completely different from the i760. While I agree that the form factor and "sexiness" is completely different, for what people will use the phone for (phone, music, internet, etc.) I think they both will perform similar. As far as the marketing, I understood your post to say that marketing the i760 as an iPhone competitor is a mistake. IMO, I think it would be wise to have a powerful phone to offer as an alternative, so if they were to position the i760 as an alternative, that would make a lot of sense....at least to me.
Rather than going around in circles, I think everyone understands and is trying to say the same thing...... Although the capabilities between Apples Gadget and the i760 are similar, the iPhone is more consumer friendly, and the i760 is for more business oriented users/ power users. There must've been about 20 pages of posts about similarities/ differences.

No power here!!!!!!!...VZW has seen to that.
A crippled device can never be considered powerful.

On an earlier post about i760 vs iPhone someone was comparing internet speed. Well someone here at the office has one so I did a test versus my Treo 700W. I went to an unnamed site where I can download music (legally). I will also state that I am smack in the middle of Nashville in an excellent coverage area.
I fired up suck-fari on the iPhone, and PIE on my treo and went to work.
Esentially I can get most of the album over EVDO in the same amount of time that it takes to get one song over that POS edge network.
It is a really sweet interface right up until you need to type something, or want to do a quick lookup on the internet? Basically a hip looking toy, nothing more, nothing less.

With all this new info and links to VZW i760, the release must be soon. I also can't wait! I have been holding off getting a new phone for the last month, it has been hard, but I have held off waiting for this phone. Thanks to everyone for all their information.
I'm at a large Law Enforcement Conference in Ponte Vedra (just south of Jacksonville, FL) and Verizon has a booth here. One of the major account reps said that he was in a meeting and the discussed the I760 and it will be out before the end of this quarter.
My I730 is dying and I'm holding out for the release.
As with most reported here, our Corp Sales rep (my company has over 5000 lines with Verizon), confrimed a late July to early August release in a conversation with him today. Nothing new to report, but another confirmation of what everyone else is reporting. You know a release is getting close when all of the information starts to line up from the different sources.
Hi someone posted a list of many different devices, and I saw one that was very similar to a Symbol MC 70. Anyone know where to find that list that was posted in this thread? Thank you.
I've been lurking around in this thread for over 6 months now...waiting and waiting. I was about to leave Verizon for Sprint and the Mogul until I saw all the links. I can't believe I almost left. I love you guys!!
