When Apple announced the iPhone, VZW marketing was looking for a device already in it's pipeline to position as a direct competitor. In addition to the LG Chocolate devices, the i760 became that device.[/i]
If this is the case, you'd expect a REALLY big marketing push by VZW?!?!?! However, I walked in the store today and they showed me the new Chocolate. If I hadn't walked in, I would have NO idea it existed? (Ok, except that I read it here yesterday.) I've seen NO marketing for the new Chocolate.
Hmmmmm....maybe it's a "soft release" with a big marketing push to come later? I guess we'll see.
It would not be the first time Verizon quietly releases then hypes it up later.
The only thing that concerns me is that the spreadsheet posted a while pack was dead on for the Chocolate release. That spreadsheet has the i760 released in September?
I don't necessarily believe it. They would not have the links posted recently out there if it was that far off. Just something to think about.
Spoke to a fairly high ranking official @ VZW today. End of July is what she said. 2 people within VZW (above store level, that is) plus some other things seem to be coming together. I'm not getting my hopes up yet, but my upgrade sense is tingling.
If I remember when the i730 released a guy in Miami got one a week ahead of the rest of us due to a store mess up. So keep trying your stores you never know what is out there. The guy was the most popular person for at least a week or so.
Dont know about the rest of you but I cant wait for that inital after release rush of thinking that will happen on the board. We have a lot of smart people who come up with some amazing things. Heck half the reason I like the i730 is the user community. I hope Verizon doesnt screw up the phone enough that it takes us a few weeks more to crack it.
Mrailing - no more telling them to put stuff in to ROM

sl
The spreadsheet was "leaked" after Engadget posted the Chocolate 2 release info. I also find it hard to believe an in house document would not mention the chocolate's model number (8550).
I hope this is all real.

I got this email after my last conversation with my rep. I am beginning to think he is clueless and has just been making stuff up as he goes. anyways.....
Steve,
After our last call, I made some additional inquiries and this is what i found out.
The initial release of the Samsung SCH-i760 was planned for early July. When Apple announced the iPhone, VZW marketing was looking for a device already in it's pipeline to position as a direct competitor. In addition to the LG Chocolate devices, the i760 became that device.
The pushing of the schedule was made to allow time for sufficient negative press after the iPhone rollout to position the i760 as a superior product. In addition, VZW marketing wanted some additional software enhancements to make the device more "consumer oriented".
The decision to push the schedule was announced in early June internally but was a loose decision, meaning that the dates were never set in stone. The information i gave you earlier today was based on my notes from that June meeting.
My conversation with the marketing group today indicates that they are moving up that timetable. They believe the publicity from the iPhone rollout has been sufficiently negative to allow them to release sooner than originally expected.
I apologize for the confusion. It sometimes seems that Verizon is a marketing company that happens to sell communications products.
I hope you choose to wait this out as i believe the i760 will be released before August. I know the <> lines you are currently looking to upgrade are causing you some pain but i really would like the opportunity to keep this and the other <> lines at Verizon Wireless.
Please let me know if i can be of further assistance.
Wow this is some solid information in writing. Thanks
for posting this information.

With a lack of anything else to do I decided to check the FCC site. I get an error no matter what link I try. I checked the above, as well as most all of the gadget blog posts regarding FCC approval. I tried searching A3LSCHi760 on the FCC site with no luck.
Anyone able to see the site? Am I just reading too much into what could be a server issue?

I checked the site yesterday it appears to still be down. The link is from way back in the thread.
Your a good person, no matter what they might say about you when your gone.
On topic, in the event that the phone is released for sale next week, is that mean that this thread will die? Or are we still gonna have our chats here? i am still very new to this.....
We know.......
Sorry couldn’t help myself.
This list will get crazy with others trying to hack the %$#@ out of this device.

I would think that it's too late for VZW to update the rom on all the units.
This was really an after thought by marketing.

Typically these types of threads are closed as soon as the device is released, and then the FLOOD of new threads start, like how do I do this, or look at this, or hey what's this do. So we still have our chats, they are just across multiple threads...

Hey, I think its a little early for us to discuss the demise of this thread!
I would like to see it die sometime soon, but I have a feeling its going to be a few weeks yet. If VZW wants to promote the i760 as a iPhone competitor, they will probably hype it up a few weeks before its released, so I am still saying August...
