Funny they don't put it up against an SCH-i730. Probably because it is too close in size.
When I held "Ethan's" i760 for those wonderful 2 minutes, it is noticeably thinner than the i730. It is where I would have thought the i730 should have been. It feels smaller although those numbers are close. It just felt more compact overall, but still a good usable size, more pocketable.
I have mentioned that before, somewhere in this massive thread...

I got this email after my last conversation with my rep. I am beginning to think he is clueless and has just been making stuff up as he goes. anyways.....
Steve,
After our last call, I made some additional inquiries and this is what i found out.
The initial release of the Samsung SCH-i760 was planned for early July. When Apple announced the iPhone, VZW marketing was looking for a device already in it's pipeline to position as a direct competitor. In addition to the LG Chocolate devices, the i760 became that device.
The pushing of the schedule was made to allow time for sufficient negative press after the iPhone rollout to position the i760 as a superior product. In addition, VZW marketing wanted some additional software enhancements to make the device more "consumer oriented".
The decision to push the schedule was announced in early June internally but was a loose decision, meaning that the dates were never set in stone. The information i gave you earlier today was based on my notes from that June meeting.
My conversation with the marketing group today indicates that they are moving up that timetable. They believe the publicity from the iPhone rollout has been sufficiently negative to allow them to release sooner than originally expected.
I apologize for the confusion. It sometimes seems that Verizon is a marketing company that happens to sell communications products.
I hope you choose to wait this out as i believe the i760 will be released before August. I know the <> lines you are currently looking to upgrade are causing you some pain but i really would like the opportunity to keep this and the other <> lines at Verizon Wireless.
Please let me know if i can be of further assistance.
Goes right along with what I have been hearing from "Ethan" all along, and what others are reporting. Thanks for the update.

One more thing that can affirm the i760 is coming soon.... Samsung has the software for it on their website (as of 7/6). Link is: SAMSUNG Download Center
Great post!!!
Looking at the Samsung site, with no manuals and no how to guides, it seems as if Samsung is waiting to see what software Verizon screwed with too...
I downloaded the file available in the download center and it offers a multimedia player (essentially Windows Media Player), a multimedia manager (offers the choice of USB Cable, Bluetooth, or Infrared connection for I guess file transfer), and a source for live updates. Being new to Samsung's high powered phones, Im guessing that this application is Samsung generic because the i760 doesn't have Infrared to my knowledge.
@wanman - that all makes perfect sense. That wraps several rumors together in one nice package. At last, an answer I can accept.....I don't agree, but at least things make more sense now.
I seriously think all the carriers are nuts if they think they have a true iPhone competitor @ this point. Maybe next year, but not yet. I'm not buying one, but the sales numbers will speak for themselves.
a) as someone mentioned, this file could have been created at any time....or it could have been created this morning. All we know is that someone discovered it today
b) Ethan did say marketing is getting ramped up for the release, so that's a good sign
c) as a Sys Admin, I guarantee this site is NOT spoofed.
The reason for the low quality is due to the swf file being presented in the wrong resolution. The second link resolved that.
I agree.. Not spoofed. I think VERIZONWIRELeSS.com would fix that pretty quick

The reason this worked is that as soon as the today screen loaded it began actually installing the apps, as the 6700 didn't have them loaded in ROM. If Verizon is smart, they will have it loaded in ROM, if not, then yes, you will be able to bypass having it loaded at bootup, otherwise it will be apart of the OS.
When I first started using my 700wx I had no MMS capability. After working with a VZW they determined that the MMS app was never installed in the initial startup. The 700wx never showed any hint of installing apps after the today screen loaded. Of course the MMS app doesn't show up in the list of installed apps. I doubt that those applications are loaded in the ROM. Its far more cost effective to load a application that installs on initial startup, that to recook a new ROM.
I'm with a bunch of you: despite my unwillingness to allow myself to be let down again, I definitely feel my excitement rising! I've got my fingers, eyes and toes crossed for a release next week!
mrailing,
Is today shaping up to be a record setting day in terms of the number of posts? If not for the forum, how 'bout for the i760 rumors thread!?
It actually looks just like several other 3D views on existing phones. It never looked thrown together, just viewed incorrectly. Later links by those more web savvy resolved that issue.
Your a good person, no matter what they might say about you when your gone.
On topic, in the event that the phone is released for sale next week, is that mean that this thread will die? Or are we still gonna have our chats here? i am still very new to this.....
