My 2 yr. old 730 died while waiting for the 760 (they're not waterproof?).
I have the same issue went to the beach for the 4th and got the 730 wet. It is still running but it aint happy. Sad it is its 2 year old Bday too. I am hoping the 760 makes it before the 730 dies or I migth have to jump to something in the mean time. I cant get the Treo I spend too much time giving the people I work with a hard time about them.
I've been reading this forum long enough, so now it's time to post something. My i730 is crippled (none of the external buttons work), and like many here, I'm holding out for the i760. I'm kinda frustrated with the wait, but I'd be able to wait longer if my phone was fully functional (I got pretty good with the i730 one-handed). I happened to be in a Circuit City, which has a Verizon kiosk (yeah, I know, they're clueless). I figured I'd strike up a conversation with the VZW guy and asked him if he knows of any new PDA phones coming out soon. Since he didn't say the word "chocolate", I continued the conversation. He said there are a few ready to release, and even specifically mentioned that something from Samsung is coming soon, but said he had no idea what the release date is. I asked if it was the i760, and he said yes. He said there are others ready for release, but it depends on when the big V decides it's time. He referred me to a different site to monitor the rumor threads (kind of a cheezeball site, not worth mention). This conversation didn't tell me anything more than I already knew from pdaphonehome.com, but I guess I'm a little more comfortable to have spoken to someone who sounded like he knew what he was talking about and thought it was coming out soon. For what it's worth, and taken with a grain of salt, here's what I know. Ethan? Got more info?
Phonescoop is a good site to get the basic stats. At least that's what I use it for.
Funny, several times I've been speaking w/ a rep in the store and they pull up something on their computer looking up phones. I always thought it was their own website. One day I stuck my head around and found they were pulling up PhoneScoop!!! LOL

That's how I felt but there's really no other choice for a WM5 phone with a touch screen at Verizon right now and I needed a replacement immediately for my business. I didn't even consider the 6700 after reading that forum. I'll dump the Treo when the 760 comes out but I'm pleasantly surprised by how well and quickly it works. It also came with MS voice command, which was a bonus.
As I patiently wait for the i760...as stated in a previous thread, I was a heavy i730 user (up to 3 apps a day...) and just purchased a Treo 700Wx to try out as I just sold my sammy. I really like the form factor and usablity but may have encountered a show-stopper and ultimate justification for the i760. While streaming either audio or video, the Treo gets really hot as if it cannot sustain any constant bit stream processing. I even saw a high-temp alarm/warning pop up which NEVER occurred on the i730. I posted a question on the 700wx forum to see if this is common but not looking like a keeper at this point. Everything else was very cool and convenient...I just don't think the Treo's were engineered to handle heavy data streaming/multi-media load or processing.
Does anyone have thoughts on this and as it compares to the i760? (I know we are talking apples and oranges with the comparison...I'm just frustrated).

Dave
I have never even heard of a "high temperature alarm" on my phone.... (granted it's a Treo 650). I must be really out of touch.
I know when pulling heavy loads in my 2002 Ford Excursion the transmission temp shows that it's getting really hot. In your case perhaps it's just a situation of low tranny-fluid level.
One of the common misconceptions is the 'stylus' (as people call it) is for tapping on the screen. In fact, it's a dipstick. (The user's manual even makes this error.... but you know how well foreign languages translate to english sometimes...).
Pull out your dipstick and see if it's dry. If it is, that is your problem. Go out and get some Dexron transmission fluid, and with an eye-dropper, put a few drops down there. CHeck the level again. THe Treos only hold about 4 drops of tranny fluid, so don't overdo it.
Wipe up any spills from your case, as it will ruin the finish.
Then try pulling some more heavy loads up the hill and see if your problem has been solved.
(I would feel really bad if you REALLY did this... but I read this early on a Sunday morning.... and you know how when YOU think of something funny... and you just HAVE to share it?)
I've been streaming video from my Slingbox for the past hour on my 700wx. It's a tiny bit warm but by no means hot. Screen brightness on medium, on battery power, EVDO. No prob. You must have a bad unit.
I did mention I was streaming audio and video. They reminded me that is unauthorized use of the data plan and that there is a 5gb ceiling on that 'unlimited plan'. This topic has been beat dead but told the tech that I should still be able to stream data as long as I did not exceed the threshold per month. I think it is ridiculous to prohibit us from streaming audio or video in moderation.
We chatted about upcoming phones and that it was possible there would be a UTC replacement out before the Samsung--of course that was not set in stone. No progress on resolving the temp issue and appears that Palm acknowledges this is a known issue.
There are no other alternatives available with Verizon now and Moto Q is not a 1/1 replacement as it is a smartphone vs ppc.

Halitosis
I have halitosis on my liver...should I change the oil on that too?
The link is inline - and I really hope it's true! I'm soooo tired of waiting, and it's been almost unbearable since June 29, what with seeing other people getting to enjoy the new toy that they have been waiting for!
Maybe, just maybe, Verizon is feeling a little kick from all the iPhone hysteria. Apple claims to have sold 510,000 units from 6PM Friday through Sunday (I know, they have stretch the truth in the past). In any event, that is 510,000 subscribers to AT&T and not Verizon. Figure half of them are AT&T upgraders, but I am sure many jumped from Verizon to have this new toy. Maybe there answer might be to accellerate i760 (and 6800)? Maybe?
