[quote=manielse]So now that we know the i760 is what I *don't want* in a form factor design:
What is *this phone* as it's what I was lead to believe the i760 was going to be? From a form factor, I had such high hopes that this would replace my 6700 one day soon. It seems too good of picture to be a fake IMO but could be wrong.

*that phone* i believe is what we all had originally thought was going to be the i760. Of course as we came to find out that is the GSM version and there has been no scheduled U.S. release. Thats what we where all hoping for cause man would that have been sweet.
I just realized why Sammy probably put the D-pad on the lower left side of the device. It will be much more ergonomically friendly to use the d-pad when using the phone in landscape mode.
The more I look at the pictures, the more I think the device will be pretty good

I see what you mean. Here's a thought. (I don't know if Crossbow is capable of this) but what if D-pad=mouse pointer in landscape mode?
Wouldn't that be cool? You wouldn't need a stylus....

I really dont mind the key baord on the side. Infact I will like it better. With the current keyboard Hihave to use two hand to type a word document. Yes I know that I can do one handed typing for small things but for real typing the side one will be better.
Lets wait until we get our hands on it. Maybe it will be great in combination with the front controls and new OS.

Yup! Don't ya just love CES week? Got a new Samsung, new iPhone, and a new OQO ... all within a couple of days of each other.
And none of which will be available to pick up to check the fit for at least two months. I for one will try my very best to not rush to judgement on any of them.
For what it's worth, NEVER have I been successful at not rushing to judgement. Didn't someone define insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?

Not a smokescreen. The one we were all drooling over was the Euro/Asian model of the i760, not scheduled for an American release, and was GSM only. As I mentioned before it looks like Samsung scheduled two different models with the same number, or the original Engadget article with the nicer looking model had the wrong number on it.
Everything points to the "new" model being the one released in the US for Verizon. The Verizon slideshow pic, the vids and articles saying CDMA radio, the fact they can't turn on the unit because of a 'new' OS (as we already know it's Crossbow). This new horizontal, keypad on front, 1.3 MP camera model is the new release for Verizon in Q2 with a model number of i760.
Samsung just dropped the ball and did a complete redesign, and decided that since everyone else was going horizontal, they should too. I prefer a vertical slider, and since Samsung went with what everyone is doing, I am now going to look at the model with the best specs and size. I don't care about the OS on the phone, as long as it's AKU3.X, which the HTC 6800 will have, and I am willing to bet that the HTC model will get Crossbow in the future, or might even be hacked in the future to have crossbow on it, so it's all going to come down to features/specs on the phone.
So only time is going to tell about which model will be the best, for size and specs, but the i760 with the horizontal slider is the model that Verizon and Samsung are releasing in the US, and branded with the V...
That really sucks..I say we send ReeFer and SloppyChachi to slap them around a bit till they come to their senses.
i noticed from the pc mag article that they said the i760 will be no touchscreen - smartphone os... contradicting other info out there... what will it be???

Well dog my cats! It sure does. If that's accurate, I'd say that is the last nail in the coffin for this phone for 95% of us. It definitley tears it for me.
I just went back and peeped the leaked VZW slides. It says "Crossbow Pocket PC", not "Crossbow Smartphone Edition". Take that for what it's worth, they haven't allowed anyone to turn it on, so PC mag may have just been mistaken. Still, if I'm gonna have a landscape keyboard anyway, the 6800, with it's 256megs rom/96 megs ram, evdo rev a, and 802.11g, not to mention earlier release date, is looking better and better.
Interesting... Though the pics that were posted didn't show every angle, I didn't see anything that looked like a silo for a stylus, and I don't remember any of the articles on it mentioning a stylus.

I agree. I think if the 6800 comes out in February I am going to grab it, and if the i760 comes out and is better, then I will make the switch to it and sell the 6800 to one of my customers that I convince to make the switch. That is how I sold my last few phones, and I already have three customers interested in my i730. I am sure that many of them will already have gotten a phone by the time I get the 6800 or i760, but at least I will be able to sell it.
Seems like Samsung dropped the ball of the i760, but only time will tell. The HTC platform is proven, although I don't like the build quality as much as I do on the i730, but I haven't seen the 6800 yet, and won't make up my decision until I get my hands on it. I agree with the fact that the great memory size, g wireless, EVDO A, and AKU3.X OS on it is looking nice.
Bring on the new devices....

That could be a sign of no touch screen, but I don't remember anything being mentioned about Apple's new phone having a stylus and I know that it is touch screen. Best I can tell it only has one physical button on the phone. Considering Samsung was releasing to compete with Apple's phone, maybe they dropped the stylus as well. I am still thinking there are going to be a couple of versions of this phone. Maybe the more direct replacement for the i730/i830 is on the way? i860?
Looked at some reviews of crossbow and it looks like a stylus is still integral to it. They basically said what we know already: WM5 was a big improvement in using the phone single handed, but you still need the stylus for certain things.
