No, I just played with one for an hour.

I have to admit that something inside me wants one bad....but it's not practical.

However, if they do get ActiveSync I would seriously debate it.

If they get ActiveSync and 3G and drop the price, I'd have one right away!

I don't use an i730. I demoed one about 18 months ago and thought it was just to bulky. Ended up getting a 6700 then trading to a Q shortly after that. The iPhone just has a really nice fit and finish to it. Everything just works and works well. The only problem I had was a) typing of course and b) getting kicked off of Google maps (which may have been a overloaded WiFi issue in the Apple store.)

Only reason I'm going with the i760 vs. 6800 is the numeric phone keypad on the front. there are other minor differences but I think most folks agree that's what it boils down to.

everything it does it does very well. it is very very smart. the touch screen is more precise and the web browsing experience is the best ive ever had. i think im in love with the two finger grow and shrink and the way scrolling works. while web browsing can type just as fast as all my other pdas, but the rest of the time it forces you into portrait mode which makes it difficult to type.
i hope that the i phone changes the way pdas are made. if the iPhone touchscreen experience is a 10 then the i730 would be a 5, because big fingers dont work in most cases with widows mobile devices, yet with the iPhone my fingers dont feel incapableand i have not felt the need for a stylus.
battery life is good too, although i have not fully tested with wifi and bluetooth on all day.

The i730 with the extended battery on it just looks absurd now.

The iPhone with no battery power in 1 year will look even more absurd.

I am reading that you get from 300-400 charges on the device.
Lets see how people like their iBatteries in one year......

I also read that and am surprised. I like charging my phone every night, so I guess if I owned the iphone, it would start dying after 1 year.

I've had my i730 for 2 years and I haven't noticed any battery wear. The battery life is about the same as the first day I owned it. It's not very good, but at least the battery isn't losing power.

I love my i730 and will be getting the i760 because its an upgrade to the i730, had it for 2 yrs in November and my "regular" (not extended battery) is dead. But I got a new i730 from insurance so I got a new extended battery with that so now i have 2 ext. batteries, lol. So batteries do die out, but $90 (from what I read) for the iPhone battery is expensive.

Also some good news! I spoke to the verizon rep at a store and he told me their "new every 2" is now for 20 months instead of 22 months. So I was expecting to get the i760 on Sept. 14 but now I can get it as early as July 14th. Please verizon give us what we need.

this is a quote from a New York Times story about cell manufacturers panicking over the iPhone:

"Samsung employees insist, and analysts agree, that Samsung handsets offer better durability and higher performance than the iPhone. But if the iPhone succeeds, the lesson will be that engineering alone is not enough to win consumers, say analysts and others in the industry."

Link to the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/02/te...ref=technology

That's 2 of the Holy Trinity of smartphones: durability, performance and style. While the iPhone is tops in style, Verizon could have made some hay over those remarks about durability and performance (at least until the iPhone 2.0)....IF they had the i760 out now instead of monkeying around with GIN and marketing dates.

By the way, after seriously thinking about AT&T's network, I was all set to wave the white flag and just wait around for whenever VZW deems it's highest-paying customers - US - worthy of an upgrade. However, I'm learning from folks that AT&T's network might not completely suck as much as I thought here in New York metro area (and I'm hearing it's 3G network is actually faster than EVDO). If this positive word-of-mouth holds up about AT&T that Kaiser will be mine.

Gone for Seven Days Feels Like Eternity and Thank You MRailing

I just returned from some time off at Bear Lake, UT where I had no connection to the phone/internet world at all. Ironically, my friend had service through T-Mobile the entire time, and I couldn't find a bar with VZW. Since I mentioned service, I go there yearly, and Bear Lake is just an anomaly. It's the only place I can think of in all my travels, rural and domestic, that has seen such a reversal of fortunes. I'm also hoping, and relatively confident considering all of the information that has been passed on the subject, that the 760 keeps good quality reception with it's internal antenna.

By the way, anybody else here looking forward to this benefit of an internal antenna? I've got a little boy (2 years - bought him with my i730) who, when 6 months to a year old, loved to hold the lights and sounds box his dad was always talking on. He invariably would always pull on and chew on the antenna - liked it better than a binky. I can't wait for number two to show up (arriving at the release of the 760 - seriously) and me not have to worry about the antenna.

But I digress... I wanted to mention a couple things:

1) I don't even care to go back the 10 pages or so to find the name of the naive "new guy" who thought preaching hellfire and damnation for MRailing was the right thing to do. My goodness...I've never met our moderator/adviser superfriend, and I don't expect to (unless, Michael, you decide to hit the 1000-miles-in-one-trip mark by coming out to Utah. I'd pay for the gas.), but my i730 is now stable in large part because of him. Michael, if I can speak for many of us who haven't PM'd you, but still feel this way, please don't ever feel like you need to defend yourself against such jerks around here. I appreciate the way you teach us "newbies to forum manners" how to organize our own thoughts and when our questions could have been answered through a simple search. I remember being a teenager yelling at my mother when she told me to clean my room and follow the "house rules". I've since thanked her for teaching me those skills/habits, and preemptively, from all of us, thanks for teaching us how to use this fantastic "house" that you spend so much time managing. I'm not kidding when I say that I have learned everything I know about forum etiquette from those "hand slapping" posts.

2)

By comparision, I do not remember this happening when the i730 came out. 'Course I don't remember Pastor Tim and his funny cartoons before either. I must say, the i730 forum has gotten to be a bit more of a ghost town of late as well. Not that there aren't posters w/questions (and people to answer). But several who have regularly posted over there are not there any more; they're over here.
A couple weeks ago I spent one of my more geeked out moments and decided to look at the interest other release rumor threads have generated. For those interested here's what I found (The dates are for the first and last posts in the thread):

i730 Release Rumor Thread
12/28/04 - 07/13/05 -- 2,675 Posts (about 11.9 per day)

6800 Release Rumor Thread
08/20/06 - 06/21/07 -- 1284 Posts (about 4.3 per day)

Kyocera 7135 Release Rumor Thread
10/08/02 - 05/08/03 -- 4,019 Posts (about 16.8 per day. Now there's some excitement!!!)

i760 Release Rumor Thread
11/17/06 - 07/02/07 -- 2,328 Posts (about 10.4 per day)

This isn't really anything worth noting more than, I thought it was interesting to see how this current "monster" of a thread was stacking of up against some of the previous "big dogs" that had people excited. One item I did find interesting: the 760 release thread has been open very close to the same amount of time that the 730 had been when the last post was made, and the number of posts made is almost identical. A difference of 1.5 per day is pretty negligible. I'm interested to see how long this thread keeps going.

Conspiracy Theory: MRailing and "Ethan" have a lot more pull than they let on, and they actually wait for this PPH thread to hit roughly 225 days and 2500 posts before they actually allow VZW to release the phone.

3) I want the 760 for the keypad on the front. I don't use a headset (just haven't really liked one yet - I do often check the headset thread in the 730 forum, though), so I find myself sliding open my phone (because I must keep it locked due to the inconveniently placed "send" and "end" buttons) and accessing my contacts through the voicesignal button on the side or just typing the number. IMO one-hand use is soooooo vital!

4) Speaking of the "send" and "end" buttons, there are a number of reasons that having those buttons in a less "pressable" location will be a huge benefit. I'm hoping that I will be able to leave the 760 unlocked more often. After accidentally calling a couple clients at 3:00AM I decided to leave the phone perpetually locked, so I must always have my phone slid open in order to use it now. Obviously this becomes more concerning with a horizontal slider, and I hope to be able to access the phone and other utilities that don't require the keypad without having to unlock so often. This was mentioned back in post 1209, but I couldn't find a response. Anybody know how 760 lock function works?

5) I think that the HTC Kaiser looks pretty slick, but I really want that keypad on the front of my phone. I'll be watching it, but right now the 760 still looks like the phone for me.

6) I'll probably be waiting to pick up a 760 just because of an (overly?) accommodating attitude to my wife's plea that I not spend $700 again the day the phone comes out. However, I'll be here in the forum every chance I get getting totally stoked out for the day I do buy it. Thanks all...

(Oh yeah -- Dangerous -- I'm on my fourth i730. Cheers)

Just wanted to point out that while the battery life is stated at 300-400 charges, if it falls below 50% within the first year it is replaced for free. After that, its 85 dollars for a new battery.
If anyone is interested, the iPhone battery life is rated at 250 hours standby and 8 hours talk (my Mogul is at 6.1 hours talk and I got about 35-40 hours standby)

hey guys, i've been lurking for about a month now and i have to admit that if the i760 was available then i probably would have pulled the trigger and switched from tmobile to vzw to get my first pda phone. however, the last month has made me think twice about this. since i'm new to even thinking about data transfer and what not, i was wondering if someone could give me some guidance.

i'm basically deciding b/w verizon and at&t. having a tmobile phone its a definite plus to be able to get a pda phone with gsm so i can just swap sim cards when i want to use the pda or the regular phone. im just not sure if the data speed is or ever will be fast enough. also i'm not sure how great their regular reception is in the boston area or in cleveland (where i will be as of next year for the next few years).

vzw on the other hand has the best cell reception in my opinion, and has 3g, but only this i760 coming up any time soon, supposedly.

is 3g that much better than hsdpa for data transfer? i just dont know if i should wait for vzw any longer.

thanks for any help you can offer...sorry my first post is so long. i promise to contribute when i actually have some experience with pda phones to offer up.

I am a former contractor for VZW. If I was still with them I could have seen/played with a i760 by now for many of my former colleagues had "test phones" before it came out on the market....so, the i760 will not have Rev A from my understanding..but Rev A makes a difference (considering you have it internally on your phone) when you want to tether it as a modem. Otherwise you can be on any phone using EVDO and will still be able to use Rev A cuz it's on the network (all of the network now, i might add). If you want to tether you will still be able to faster than you would last week when not everyplace had Rev A, but if you want superfast download/upload capability you may want to get the Libra..which I think doesn't have Windows Mobile Professional? and that may be out later than the Samsung...let's hope it's not the other way around.

This will be a great phone especially cuz of the front keypad and the keys are big, since there's not many keys on the front.

Expecting a July launch seems likely as Verizon will not put out two phones at a time. This was stated earlier about the Blackberry. I used to get the internal emails when phones used to come out and they usually don't announce two phones at one time unless it is a color change for one of the phones or something like that.

I'm waiting for a 3G iPhone that will have an excel/excel-like function or some sort of business applications and I may switch over. I pay for 1350 minutes for myself and have a 10 buck text message plan. It hurts my wallet. But at the same time don't be surprised to see me w/ the i760 and the 4GB Micro SDHC
