It seems that 99% of you guys have i730's(that apostrophe is used here incorrectly, but it avoids confusion), and I was wondering:
Am I the only one who currently has a 6700 that is waiting on the i760?
And to be honest it is for 1 reason only--the front numeric keypad.
That front numeric keypad (or lack thereof) is the only reason I own a Treo 700W today instead of the i730 that I returned because I don't like using the dial pad which restricted my one handed use.
I had never owned a device that felt as sturdy and well constructed as the i730 but I couldn't deal with the dial pad.
If the device is as well built as the 730 and that functionality of the keypad is what it should be, thats enough for me to make the change.
No Verizon doesn't 'owe' us anything. They can run their company as they see fit. However, we can still complain about the lack of upgraded devices and the crippling of phones. If they want to keep folks in their system, they do 'owe' it to them to give them the best phones, coverage/network, and service avail. If they don't provide these things, then the market will phase them out by unsatisfied customers leaving in droves. Case in point: Equus.
I don't stay with Verizon because I'm some sort of Verizon fanboy(does such an animal exist?). I stay with them because of 3 reasons:
1--they have the best network/coverage in my area
2--99% of my contacts/friends/family are also on Verizon so free calls to them
3--My company has chosen Verizon as its provider
When another carrier can provide the same or better coverage here(Birmingham, AL), then reasons #1,#2, and #3 will be moot. Why? Because If there are other choices in great coverage, then me/myfamily/friends/contacts/company won't all be with Verizon any longer.
Fed up waiting? Hmmm.... I must have missed the press release from VZW telling us the release date, so that we can be upset at them for not honoring.
How many customers will Verizon lose between this Friday and next Thursday? I suspect a few less than any other week, due to the holiday. But they will lose none, statistically, due to the i760, or lack thereof.
We all need to realize that in the "pie" of VZW's sales, the entire pda market isn't a piece - its barely a bite. Whatever anyone here does or says won't make any difference at all in what they do.
Thus the reason that VZW has no clue about how to market to and support this group... we're not a big enough piece of the pie to worry about!

you might think they don't owe you anything, but they owe me a better device...the question is whether they will live up to their obligations. they essentially promise more advanced phones with their NE2 program, an UPGRADE program which has an actual value to current consumers with its tag of $100. they can't logically expect me to buy a Chocolate to replace my i730. they have a million dumb phones to replace the million dumb phones before it and not one upgrade device to replace the i730. without that replacement, i'm losing out on my $100 credit towards new technology that other customers are able to take advantage of because they chose to buy LESS EXPENSIVE phones and, probably, pay less in monthly service fees.
now, you're correct they can run the company as they see fit, including reneging on implied promises and making people more than the two years to upgrade product. and you're also right that people can leave - and i will.
dangerous, I understand your frustration but a "Rep" is not going to risk his/her job by telling you anything other then soon. They are told by their managers that they will get fired if they leak any information.
The release of the iPhone is going to be the start of changes to come to VZW's and other sell service providers marketing and manufacturer relations business model.
Well, i asked my Rep to pass it up to his managers for a response.

Intersting your 3 items are the same as mine. but different order
3 = 1 My company pays for my Phone.
1 = 2 best Network
2 = 3 Contacts / free. ... again, my company pays.
oh.. and #4 = our Escalade has Onstar with a Phone number attached. VZW is the only service you can have for that. (this is not company paid.)

I think most people with a 6700 are going to a 6800... if for anything because the form factor is pretty much the same and a new model seems like a logical upgrade path.. However there is a big form factor change in the i730's portrait keyboard layout to the landscape one on i760... The big reason I went with the i730 was my preference for the portrait keyboard. And I know many others have the same view, I'll be interested to see the perspective of the i730 crowd when they try acclimate to a landscape keyboard... The numeric front keypad will be a welcome addition!

I too am coming from a 6700..well NOW i'm coming from a Q but I had the Q given to me by VZW cuz I went through 12 hardware malfunctions on the 6700 in 10 months. If we're all being delayed on the i760 release then I would definitely hope its better than the 6700 was to me. Personally I hate VZW and would go to anyone else if their network was reasonably working in my area. I still can't believe they make us pay all this money monthly for a limit on how much we can browse on our "unlimited" data plans and for crippled blue tooth. The 6700 had to have major hacks in order to get it to work right. Why??? Wasn't the 519 I paid retail for it enough?
