i dont remember the exact date, but look back thru this thread could be 20 or 30 pages and there was a document posted that had the release dates of all the upcoming vzw handsets...
Ok, I know this is a bit off-topic but then again, so have 300+ of the replies in this thread...
As I consider whether to get the i760, the iPhone, the HTC Kaiser, etc...I realize that I am more a phone junkie than a loyal Verizon customer. While I believe their, "It's the Network," I also believe that ATT is quickly catching up...and the idea of being able to use my own phone while overseas is appealing (whether through ATT or if I can unlock the phone..)
Anyhow, here's my question. Does anyone know if ATT has anything similar to Wireless Sync? Specifically, the web-based interface? It is the way that I keep my calendar with my secretary. She enters EVERYTHING through that interface. That way I always have it on my phone. And she can enter things wherever she is...even at home if she remembers something. I find it indispensable.
So...any quick answers before Michael reminds us to get back on topic?
I have had an account on this site for quite some time.... back when it was much smaller and really nothing more than a glorified message board touted as an informational web site.
I have been a Palm user for quite some time... starting with the Kyocera 6035, then the Kyocera 7135, then the Treo 600, now the Treo 650. My father recently dumped his Treo 650 into a hot tub (different story for a different thread... and probably a different board), and got a Treo 700P through VZW insurance coverage, so I have been exposed to that phone as well (and have seen no reason to upgrade).
Recently, I had lunch with two friends of mine that both had a Samsung i730, and we started comparing notes. It was one of those 'soul-shattering' moments.
The more and more we got into it, the more ANGRY I became with Palm. These two were doing things on their i730 that I had only been DREAMING about for the past 2 years.... and these are phones that are being 'phased out'.
I feel like Palm has done NOTHING in terms of bringing more feature sets and expandability to their Treo line for the past 2 years... and frankly, I didn't know just how green the grass was on the other side of the fence until I saw them tap into their home computers via Terminal Services,
watch TV on their phones through SlingBox, stream Sirius radio to their headphones, and snag a WiFi signal that was in the area.
The closest I could come is playing a movie on my Treo via TCPMP. After that, I couldn't come close to the capabilities and functionality and POTENTIAL behind those phones.
Time and time again in my Palm "tenure", I put myself into the mindset that "oh well, maybe the technology will come out in the Treo 800"
I guess what was even more surprising was that their (genuine) reaction was one of surprise that I COULDN'T do anything they were doing... since their phones were already two years old, and were eagerly awaiting the arrival of the i760. (They conceded their biggest frustration was not having a numeric keypad on the front of the phone... something the i730 lacks, but the i760 fills).
Before yesterday I was touting the SIMPLICITY behind the Palm operating.... now I know how all those "end of the world" guys felt on January 2nd, 2000.
Is the Palm operating system more SIMPLE than the Windows Mobile? Probably... but frankly, I would trade an extra keystroke in a menu screen to be able to tap into my home computer via Terminal Server, or be able to pass 2 hours of time with SlingBox in an airport.
First thing I did this morning was to call Verizon and ask about the availability. Of course, no one knew anything.
I, for one, will wait for the i760. I am not interested in changing carriers, as VZW has been good to me for 7+ years. Yes, they are pricey, but their coverage, reliability, and customer service have always been good. (In stark contrast, my wife has Cingular... and can't make (or receive) a phone call in a crowd of people, and has had less than pleasant experiences during a support call).
Is this a "Treo Killer"?
WAKE UP Palm. From what I saw over a 2 hour lunch... the day that the i760 comes out, my Treo 650 is DEAD.
(sorry I have no new information... I just felt I had to comment....)

The i760 sounds promising but the 64mb or memory is useless. My current phone has that and I can usually only have two memory intensive programs open at a time like CorePlayer and FlexMail. I amazed and I hope that is not the ending specification on the memory in this day and age..
The Motorola Q9 has 256mb shared memory and a decent processor, though it is a smartphone I have found these pretty useful except for lack cut and paste I suppose..
I am getting so impatient. I am just going to get whichever comes out first, the Q9 or the i760. Any input on this decision?
What my fellow (ok..former) Miata friend had to say is right on.
What are the primary things you want to do? You may get along just fine w/ a Q?
For example, here are the primary reasons I'm going back to a full PPC device:
1) Remote Desktop - It's much harder to do Remote Desktop using a Q (have to use a java version of VNC IIRC) I'd rather have support for the full MS RDP client
2) Notepad - Vieka wordpad get's the job done, but lack of native sync w/ Outlook notes annoys me
3) Some apps don't work with "Standard" aka "Smartphone edition" - There's an Active Directory management tool I'd like to use, but it's not compatible with the Q.
Edit: Oh yeah, and lack of native Copy/Paste support
Otherwise, I really like my Q and you might as well.

You'll have to clarify. What do you mean "that interface?" Aren't you speaking of Outlook? Sorry, I don't use Wireless Sync and I'm under the impression it's just a sync back to Outlook.
If that's the case, is your corporate Outlook connected to an Exchange server? If so, that's the way to go. You just sync your phone w/ your server. Everything your secretary enters in Outlook at the office will show up on the phone.

I think you may find that your 650 can do some of those things. And keep in mind, the i730 hasn't been able to do all of that this entire time.
Naturally a Windows device can remote into a Windows box more easily, but there are tools to do the same on the Treo (VNC for example.)
I believe Slingplayer is available for Palm OS now as well.
As for WiFi, that was an unfortunate omission on Palm's part. I recall fighting over it for pages and pages on other forums as to why it's important. Oh well.
However, I agree, Palm has fallen behind the times. They are no longer the innovator they once were. I personally think they screwed up by giving up on the Palm OS. It was what brought them to the game in the first place and they abandoned it. So sad.
If it's any food for thought (sorry Pastor Tim, the form is too long to fill out)
I was in the VZW store buying my wife a Treo 700W and I had a discussion with the two guys there and both have had 760 training. They were able to describe the phone to me in detail. So to those wondering if there are reps who have had training, yes they have.
Btw I know we're frustrated with the delay of VZW but if some of these leaked roadmaps and timelines are correct, the end of the year could be quite a bounty for VZW customers.
Think about it:
Moto Q9M
Treo 755
Treo 750
XV 6800
I760
Blackberry Pearl
That's a pretty nice collection. I might just wait and see how everything pans out.
Of course knowing VZW, they'll probably release it in June of 08
haha no I'll speak but what I say you all know. They confirmed it had WM6 and that the version they used had both Wifi and EVDO. They said it was pretty cool when they used it and that from what they've heard VZW is expecting to move a lot of em. So maybe we'll get them sooner than later.
Also the version they used, that was maybe a month or two ago. So if VZW pulled it to get the V-cast crap on there or whatever else, they haven't heard so far.
Way back when, the same thing was happening at Verizon with the Treo 650. Folks were clamoring... VZW was delaying... (etc etc etc).
Finally, Verizon put up this page to 'confirm' that they were, indeed, going to offer the 650 on their network.
That was on April 4, 2005.
Now, we seem to be well beyond that now with the i760....
but it wasn't until May 2, 2005 that Verizon then had an 'official' release date of May 11, 2005 for their B2B customers, with a general release to the rest of the folks 12 days later.
This means that if there was a July 4th release, and assuming that Verizon followed suit again... wouldn't there be SOME announcement by now that the i760 was due out?
Again... more conjecture... just random thoughts.
Another thing... and this is more to the Verizon marketing department more than anything else...
I can understand Verizon not wanting to offer up a 'release date' for the i760 if they still have i730's in stock... because then everyone would just wait for the newer phones.
But, it seems to me that AS SOON AS the stock was gone, they should then announce to the public when the expected release date is going to be.
With all of the other products out there competing with the i760, (iPhone, etc etc), with NO NEWS a fair number of people are willing to jump ship to get the features they want... and Verizon should be using every trick they can right now to keep as many folks as they can in their customer base.
I verified this morning that the i730 is no longer in stock... it's nowhere to be found, aside from eBay.
Even Apple has a June 29th date for the iPhone... keeping Cingular folks (sorry... AT&T folks) glued to their provider in anticipation of a known time frame.
Everyone here operates off of a calendar, because it's what our SmartPhones/PPC's DO. It's the way our brains are programmed.
This is like not knowing the date for Christmas every year. You know you are going to get presents, but you don't know when. So after a while you convert to Judiasm not because of the acceptance of the faith... but just because you know when the holidays are.

Welcome to the mind of Verizon Wireless. I don't think they think this way. I think they believe that if announcing a product before a release could result in ONE person holding off buying a phone, it could hurt revenue NOW. VZW is a public company, and like many public companies, they probably struggle to meet analyst revenue expectations every quarter. In their mind, if they announce on June 25th that a phone will be released the first week of July, that means their revenue, new contract, and renewal #'s will plunge in the last week of of June and could compromise their Q2 operating results. Even if they're making their #'s comfortably, they are still control freaks and like to have all the information to themselves so they can control the bottom line as much as they can. They want their subscribers to live our mobile lives blindly and they want us to be completely unaware of new products around the corner. You may say this strategy isn't working, because everyone on this forum knows the i760 is right around the corner. Unfortunately, we represent a tiny fraction of their market,so they're not too concerned about us.
Is this the right strategy? I don't know. But it certainly appears to be their strategy.

One other reason why they're being so tight-lipped could be cuz the 2nd quarter ends June 30th. So they want to maximize profit for now to make the stock attractive to shareholders...Even if the money they make will be returned in July it's still a boon for them cuz they report the profit now. And then it's good for them in the 3rd quarter because odds are the new phones we get will be even more than what we're paying for now so there is no loss for them...
who erased my first pdaphonehome.com cherry popping post that I started in this thread ? I just want to know who---PM me, I want to know.
From the looks on the comment by the moderator who deleted it, plus actually reading your post, you were posting links to a another site to help you generate money with a referral program, otherwise known as spamming the board. This is in violation of the House Rules, and this is why it was most likely deleted, and since this was your first post, and it was/is spamming the board, this is the normal action. Normally when this type of SPAM happens, the account is also removed/banned, so you at least lucked out there.
As a suggestion in the future for any message board you visit, don't SPAM the board, especially on the first post.

Let's get this back on topic. iPhone discussion shouldn't be happening here, so take that to the lounge or another appropriate thread.
Same goes for discussions on other similar off topic discussions. Let's keep this thread to the Rumors and release information for the SCH-i760.
I'm a lazy moderator today. I'm just going to quote Mike and remind everyone that its time to keep things on topic especially since we might be getting close to the rumored release date.

Actually I'm Jewish and year to year I have no idea when the holidays are.
