Just got i760...pls pls help!! ( going crazy for 2 days here )

Hi guys

I recently picked up a i760 off Ebay to replace my old phone.
Everything is awesome , great phone and a lot of phone.

However the WIFI setup is killing me..
Im not an expert on networking but I have never had any trouble connecting other devices ( laptop , iPhone , pc ) in the past but this phone is driving me crazy.
It states that I am connected to my network but I cant open any pages in the internet explorer.
Also checking the router my device is actually attached and shows being connected to the router!!

I hope someone can help me , I will list every single possible detail I can think of , here is the current setup

Router: Netgear WGR614 v9
OS: Windows XP / WM6 on the phone
Security: WEP
Authentication Type: Automatic
Encryption Strength: 64bit
IP Address for router: 10.0.0.100
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP: OFF

This is the setting I gave my phone
IP: 10.0.0.88 ( Its not used by any other device here )
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 10.0.0.100
DNS: 10.0.0.100
WINS: 10.0.0.100

On the configure wilreless network
Network Name:obvious
Connects to: Internet
Authentication: OPEN
Data Encryption: WEP
Network key: entered same as on the router

This is the setup I am using and I cant use the internet explorer.
please please help

If I am missing any other crucial info , please let me know

Have you tried soft reseting your phone, then connecting?

Sorry you're having trouble Vex, but I'm wondering if the issue is with your phone or not. As for me, I have WIFI going at home and at work and I don't remember doing anything to set it up except say "yes" to the appropriate prompts. Are you running any WIFI connections on other things like a computer?

Maybe someone smarter than me can help you more, but, like I said, I've never seen or heard about what you are describing.

I meant to edit that post and include more info.

I would upgrade to WinMo 6.1 first.

should work w/o the upgrade. does your phone detect the router when you are in the configure wireless network window?

Yes it should work before the upgrade.. Will it work if the security is turned off in the router. or if you try a different security like WPA personal?

Also what is the SSID of your router (you don't need to answer that). If it is not changed from the default it may be getting confused with another "netgear" AP that it has seen. Go into the Wireless settings in the connection manager and delete any profiles that match the SSID of you router and let it re-detect.

I am definately no expert here, but my suggestion would be to turn on DHCP and set the phone to use a server assigned IP instead of static.

Also, as previously mentioned, open up the security on your router, turn of encryption etc to see if you can connect and then close it back up one step at a time.

Good luck

You guys are awesome.

I disabled the WEP and it instantly connected.
I turned WEP back on and it works flawlessly now...
Thx so much!!!

p.s. I want to log onto two networks ( both static and not using DHCP )
is there a way to set up profiles so I dont have to type in the IP address everytime I goto a new netowork??

One thing I can tell you as a Wifi-only i760 guy - WM 6.1 handles Wifi TONS better. It was the greatest benefit of the upgrade for me besides the threaded SMS.

In my WM 6 days I used applications like:
Aspecto Software - WiFiFoFum
and
PocketPCFreeware : PeekPocket 1.6

For a short time I was having good luck using: WeFi - Find Free Wi-Fi anywhere and Friends everywhere!
If you're not going to upgrade give this a shot. It tries to do too much, but it may do what you need.
