i760 error message 0000FFFF

I have been succesfully syncing my i760 with MS exchange and Outlook for over one year. Just last week it stopped working

I use 1and1.com for my exchange server account and have contacted them.

I get the error message 0000FFFF in active sync window

To the OP: I have found that active sync calls up both the MS exchange and the desktop PC separately. For example if you are syncing your phone via wifi, it should only sync email, taks, contacts and calendar. If you hook it to your desktop machine it will sync the rest. So if you are using an MS exchange email server, the PST file on your desktop is irrelevant. It most likely is a problem with the way your exchange email acount is setup in the server.

Yes MGuzzy, it is definitely annoying...

Here is what I tried most recently:
In ActiveSync I deleted the established relationship with my i760.
I then ran ScanPST on the one and only PST file located in my Outlook data file.
With ActiveSync set up to sync everything except WMCenter and Microsoft's One Note, I connected once again and established a new relationship.
As it was syncing I saw that it found 237 contacts - and showed sync in process
Then it got to the Calendar and took forever to move on - I'm thinking, "Great, it found some stuff, right??"
Then email portion synced
Then it quickly ran through tasks
It showed 60 notes found and showed the sync process going on
Then finally it showed that it found 38 files and showed the syncing going on for those.

When it was all said and done, I looked on my i760 and found
Contacts - less than 50
Calnedar - nothing, nada, zippo
Emails - only 6
Tasks - nothing
Notes - they all showed up
Files - they all showed up

(pulling out what little hair I have) It just doesn't make any sense.

FYI, I do have the settings to show all calendar, show all categories in task, show all emails, etc so that it's not a simple matter of the view not being right....

I'm racking my brain - I'm not a computer or electronics newbie by no means and that is only making it seem worse...usually I can figure this stuff out but...

My initial thought was that you are on the right track with it finding/syncing another PST file because why would it have some contacts (a list but not my current full list), a few emails, and other items.

I just can't seem to find where it is getting this stuff from.

When I look in my Outlook file (located in something like Cocs & Settings/user/localsettings/app data/micro/outlook) I see the following folders/files:

extend.dat (video CD movie) - that's a strange file in this folder????
~last~.sharing.xml.obi (OBI file)
20090629 backup.bak (BAK file - created when I ran ScanPST)
Outlook.sharing.xml.obi (OBI file)
20090629 backup.log (text doc)
~20090629 backup.pst.tmp (TMP file)
Outlook.xml.kfl (KFL file)
20090629 backup.pst (outlook personal folders)

The file: ~20090629 backup.pst.tmp (TMP file) leaves the folder when I disconnect the i760

I can tell your not a "newbie"... your digging deeper than most would fear to tread.

The only PST file in your ...\Outlook folder is the "20090629 backup.pst" It doesn't make sense that that PST file would correspond to your default Personal folder. My guess is your default PST file is in another location. In Outlook go to folder view and check the properties of the Personal Folder. Or go to the mail settings through the control panel and look at the data files. Does it point to the same file or a different one?

The PST file got that name because when I made a backup of my PST file I saved it on my external drive. I saved it with the date/name format that you see.

I deleted the PST file that was current (it was probably named the original filename like you are used to seeing) and ran outlook again letting it create a new PST file. I tested the new pst file by syncing to my phone and nothing worked with the new file. So instead of importing the backup PST file I just moved the file to the location that outlook would look to find it - that's why the "20090629 backup" file name now exists.

Iwent to the folder view in Outlook and right clicked on my Personal Folders. I stayed on the General Tab and clicked on Advanced. It shows the NAME: Personal Folders; FILENAME - the location I mentioned in the previous post that has the 20090629 backup file in it; and the FORMAT - Personal Folders File - so everything looks right, right?

Doug
I did some other digging around and apparently this is an issue with Outlook 2007... no body has a fix, anybody that did fixed it finds it back again. I saw a number of people that just downgraded to Outlook2003 to get around it. Here's what one guy did:

--------------------
Ok, I don't really know what I did differently than previously, but I now
have ActiveSync 4.5 working with Outlook 2007. Here is what I did:

1. Uninstalled ActiveSync from my PC
2. Rebooted PC
3. Made sure Outlook was not running and installed AS 4.5
4. Rebooted PC
5. Deleted any Sync connections from my handheld
6. Connected handheld
7. Configured local syncing
8. When prompted, I selected the option to overwrite on my handheld.

Once The sync was done I saw appointments, tasks, email, etc on the
handheld. I confirmed sync is working by adding another new appointment on
my PC. I also tested by adding an appointment on my handheld
-----------------

The other symptom they were experiencing was that the items were syncing but they were creating blank appointments. Are you seeing that? So with that I ask the obvious: do you have all the updates and service packs for Office2007, ActiveSync etc.. I don't know if MS released a fix in a patch. And I wonder if a third party sync program like Intellisync would bypass the issue?
I'm stumped at this point...

Well, I tried a couple more things.

First, I tried to uninstall and reinstall ActiveSync as posted above - no change.

Secondly, I uninstalled Office 2007 and reinstalled 2003. Still not properly syncing. Same as a few posts ago - it sync's a contact list but the current/complete list. No calendar, no tasks, no emails this time.

So I put office 2007 back on my system.

Beginning to wonder if AspecHT is on the right track about it being an exchange server issue - I just don't know how to pursue that one.

Did I miss something? I thought Exchange was not involved here?
