Overview: New software has been released for the Samsung i760; MR3 (includes all updates in MR2, WM6.1 upgrade, and Nortel Network patch.)
Resolution: Existing customers looking to be upgraded may access the new software via a computer by following these steps:
1. Go to www.verizonwireless.com/data
2. Select Phone / Device Brand
3. Select Samsung from the list of manufactures
4. Select the Samsung i760
5. Select Device Software Update (located at the bottom of the page) in the Downloads section
this really looks liek the orignal 6.1 update...
I had this to say
Kind of a repost but:
supposedly they have a software upgrade that was issued OCT 30 for the MEID issue.
this is supposed to roll out soon....
oh and Samsung told VZW that they could not replicate the issues ppl were having with the 6.1 upgrade.. I e they had no problems and did not brick a phone... I guessing that it has to do with computer hardware in that case, as we all have different computers, but likely they all use a similar setup
BTW they sent me a brand new i760

The post that i started this thread with, was released from VZW today. so i think the file is new. i'm getting it now to check.
The file is dated 10/10/2008 so it's not the original.

Has anyone done this update, and does it change anything else? (My main concern - does it give is the promised "vista" look and feel?) If not, I guess I wouldn't bother, eh?

I'm updating mine now, the PDA is updated but it's hanging at the phone update.

The only thing that i see has changed is the phone, the PDA is the same.
The initial VZW page that has this link for "Download Software Update" also has a link for "Device Software Enhancement List" (http://support.vzw.com/pdf/Samsung_i760_MR2_Update_Customer_Notes.pdf). One could interpret this as being a list of what the download link will provide...but it is not. The "...Enhancement List" talks about the BD14 update, which is what anyone who has already updated to 6.1 already has. But, if you navigate through to the actual update pages and instructions (at least into the XP side...I did not dig into the Vista installation side), they talk about BJ10...so it appears that this is indeed an update beyond BD14. And these pages say both the PDA and Phone get updated. Whoever is "early adopting", please check and report your versions both before and after.
Cheers!
Edit -- I looked at the Vista instructions and they, too, talk about the version updating to BJ10. But...they did not fully vet the instructions...in the very next section ("Additional Details..."), they left behind the mention of "...this BD14 update..." as well as left it describing what BD14 has rather than what BJ10 should have. Ah well...
I just completed the update as well. I had already upgraded to 6.1 previously.
I checked the S/W versions before and after, as requested above:
Pre update:
PDA: S:i760.07 V.BD14.19202
Phone: S:i760.07 V.BD14
Post update:
PDA: S:i760.07 V.BJ10.19202
Phone: S:i760.07 V.BJ10
I can also confirm that this updated has the same problem as the last one, i.e.: it gets hung after updating the PDA software when it is about to update the phone software. You get around it the same way (soft reset phone, turn USB connection back on in WMDC, basically like starting the process all over again, then it will resume where it left off).
I didn't have the MEID problem and I don't live in a Nortel area. My phone was one of the first batch which I picked up at beginning of last November. I will report if I notice any differences from this update.
