usage was the same.
Not here... I would think that perhaps the Nortel fix part of the update is now allowing your phone to connect more (good thing) and hence the additional drain.

What do you have configured to sync during the day? I don't think I've ever had 70% battery left at the end of a day. I use exchange sync and weather panel updating every 30 min.

It is a dfficult comparison. Since you have to hard-reset when you upgrade perhaps one setting is now different to cause the extra drain?

According to vzw tech support the bj10 update solves the authentication issue after hard reset. I upgraded last night and did not have to call vzw to authenticate phone to make and receive calls once upgraded to bj10.

Wouldn't you know it, started seeing a dark spot on screen one week after warranty!!! The rep tried to replace my device with a refurb 6800 for a $50 fee! But there were no batteries in stock, so i decided to wait. Tried to work a deal to replce with a storm, but they would not budge. Said it was not a comparable device. Would I have better luck pleading my case to my sales rep who I have an established relationship with? Now that I noticed the dark spot on the screen it's all I can see and it is making me crazy!

I usually go through almost both batteries every single day. I can't imagine having 70% remaining.

I've actually seen slightly improved battery life. Try turning down your backlight brightness (I'm a shade a light sensitive anyway), and make sure you actually close any programs you're not using. I only ever have up my active sync and messaging programs consistently. Everything else I use the task manager to end task (HTC Touch makes it way easy).

I have my mail syncing through exchange activesync. typically about 50 to 60 emails a day. plus a dozen or so calls lasting a total of about 30 minutes. at the end of the day it's usually down to 70%, I can typically get 2 days out of a full charge.

So after the upgrade, the first 2 days drained the battery down to 35% by 5pm each day.
the 3rd day, at the end of the day it was 85%.

Also, I notice the thing locks up more frequently now. At least once a day, I will try to turn it on, it would not turn on. the blue led would flash but the screen would not turn on. only way to turn it back on is to reset it or remove the battery. Pre-upgrade, I usually go 5 to 7 days between reboots.
after going through nearly a dozen PDA phones, I had thought this was the perfect phone for me, but now after the upgrade, I'm not too sure anymore.

Did you perform a manual hard reset after the upgrade. This is recommended and will usually fix the types of issues you describe.

Yes, performed a manual hard reset before the upgrade and after the upgrade.

It seems like someone is always getting screwed on these updates. I never had a lockup with 6.0, then I started getting them every day with 6.1 (I've since corrected that). now I am hesitant to update again and something go wrong...

Myself I'm still on WM60 and it's choked enough times, and required me to reboot by battery removal every every 2-3 days on average, that I was seriously considering WM61 if it was more stable.

But with some of the comments like yours about WM61 upgrade not helping, introducing new problems or bricking the phone... and with the question about whether there are any i760's in stock as replacements... I'm still holding off on WM61.

It also has not been made clear to me that WM61 was designed to fix general Microsoft bugs, other than the MEID/Nortel thing that doesn't apply to me.

I guess I'd rather live with my current unreliability than possibly make it worse and be without a hardware device which ergonomically I still think is decently designed.

OOC, what did you do Joshrys to resolve your WM61 lockups?

Just want to say that the 6.1 upgrade was worth it...even just for the chat-style Text'ing.

Of course I had it easy. I did not obtain a i760 until after the 6.1 upgrade was available. So I flashed it the very first day I got it. Hard Reset --> Flash --> Hard Reset Again.

I fully intend to upgrade to the BJ10 firmware, but my work schedule has been too busy to do so. I never "backup" my device. I only backup app settings and then restore them so I know everything is as clean as possible.

Does this update erase everything on your phone, if you already have 6.1 on?

How do you know if you live in a "nortel" area or not?

I live in New England, didn't think I had an issue with this issue not getting EVDO, seemed liked the phone was okay, saw EVDO most of the time. It's difficult to say if it was any different than from before the upgrade. Just spent a week out in the Los Angeles area and my phone never saw EVDO, was on 1X the whole time.

I think there's some good info on backup s'ware in other threads, but I don't know that this is the right thread for that discussion.

need assistance...

tried the upgrade and it did the OS portion fine. I am now stuck at the "PDA update finished. Phone update start." screen. The phone shows "Do not disconnect. Entering Phone download." It hasn't moved in over 10 minutes. I can't close the program(PC) and the phone won't turn off.

what steps should i try now?

Edit:

Nevermind. I reset and started over. It went through the entire process again, but never got hung. All is good now...
