The initial VZW page that has this link for "Download Software Update" also has a link for "Device Software Enhancement List" (http://support.vzw.com/pdf/Samsung_i760_MR2_Update_Customer_Notes.pdf). One could interpret this as being a list of what the download link will provide...but it is not. The "...Enhancement List" talks about the BD14 update, which is what anyone who has already updated to 6.1 already has. But, if you navigate through to the actual update pages and instructions (at least into the XP side...I did not dig into the Vista installation side), they talk about BJ10...so it appears that this is indeed an update beyond BD14. And these pages say both the PDA and Phone get updated. Whoever is "early adopting", please check and report your versions both before and after.
Cheers!
Edit -- I looked at the Vista instructions and they, too, talk about the version updating to BJ10. But...they did not fully vet the instructions...in the very next section ("Additional Details..."), they left behind the mention of "...this BD14 update..." as well as left it describing what BD14 has rather than what BJ10 should have. Ah well...
It does take the PHONE from BD14 to BJ10.
The Software versions from the dl are: 3.0.0.7 first update. this update 3.0.1.1
I am thrilled. In another thread way back in August I was the one who brought the MEID problem to the attention of the forum. I live in Ohio. I got the .zip file linked in the first post in this thread and it installed without issue and I am now back on EVDO. I've quit contemplating another phone. Thanks for the link and for staying on top of this
Allright! Now, how in the hot place am I supposed to upgrade my phone? I am running Widows Vista 64 bit which will not work with this update. Does anyone running Vista 32 bit live anywhere near Petersburg, VA? The first update, I had just bought my laptop and took it back to the store and they used a display model to update the phone but I don't that will work now that I've had the computer for a while.
Does this networking update have anything to do with the bug that causes our phones to randomly lock up, or do the MEID phones not have this issue? I have an older i760 (no MEID #) and haven't noticed any networking issues, but I do have the problem of the phone randomly not coming out of sleep mode. Will this upgrade help me?
Wow!
Updated to this from first 6.1
Was not expecting much change.
But was pleasantly surprised to find
my touch screen much more responsive.
Are there new vid drivers in this one?
And quicker!
Nice,
Maybe I will not get that iPhone after all.

I got the XV6800 because of the lockups, not coming out of sleep. I did the update yesterday, activated the I760, then decided to deactivate it.
I will probably just load software and see how it works (with it not being activated).
Sadly, VZW and Sammy have still not updated the information pages regarding what exactly is included in MR3 (while the instructions are for MR3, the release notes I've been able to find are all for MR2). Until they do, we are left with the anecdotal information from those who try it and post their results here. I am personally not affected by the MEID issue (older i760 and in CA -- not a Nortel zone as far as I know), but am encouraged by the reports so far concerning slightly improved performance. I may indeed do the upgrade this weekend -- though doing it remote from my office (Exchange Server) means a very long initial synch! The two major issues that I suffer from are multiple BT devices (a daily irritation) and not waking from sleep (not so often anymore). From what others have posted, I am not hopeful for a resolution to those (especially since Sammy and VZW continue to claim the BT issue was fixed in MR2!!). Best.
Dangit. I did this update and it updated the PDA but did not update the Phone. Phone says NA. I tried 3 times to rerun the update and it says every time that the upgrade has already been done and can't be done again. Any ideas from the crowd?
Have you already tried what post 20 in this thread suggests?
Yes, and several times. The phone resets and on the black Samsung screen says Please reset your device, Reinstallation not allowed. I think when I did the initial update last night, it had just started the Phone portion of the upgrade and stated that it failed because of a configuration issue. Nothing more specific than that. Now on versions screen, PDA is at the new version, but Phone states NA and will not turn on for anything. I believe I've created my second brick for the year.
And, oh what a nice upgrade process verizon provides that so many users have these issues. I would consider myself a little bit savy and would hate to think how a novice user could get through this. Geez.

Sigh....I do feel for you, my friend. I feel I have been lucky. This is my 2nd WM device (my first was the MotoQ) and something like the 5th major firmware update between them. So far, I've come scary-close to bricking each time, but got lucky and managed to find (with the help of forums like this) a way out of the problem and complete the update each time (no, I have not tried MR3 yet). I, too, have always wondered how the heck the "non-techy user" would possibly be able to complete this given the variability of how it processes. Plus, with no quantitative information whatsoever, I'd have to say that the i760 update process was actually smoother than those for the Q. Sigh...
BTW -- unless I am mistaken (always a possibility!), the update process originates with the manufacturer (in this case, Sammy) and is then "altered" by the carrier (in this case, VZW). If so, then the responsibility for the challenging update process is either shared between them or actually originates with Sammy (on the assumption that VZW can "tweak", but not completely rebuild, the update process). I'm not attempting to defend VZW in any way, btw -- they are a "carrier" after all, with all the dread that word brings with it!

Well I've given in. I knew when it happened I had a brick. Upgraded two I760s this year without fail and this one bricks. Geez. I called Tech and suprisingly enough they have an I760 to send back to me. On its way. The lady in tech said "oh, I have to check something" to which I replied "I know, you dont have anymore I 760s and I have to settle with a xv6800." I few minutes later she stated she found an I 760. So they must still have some out there or are refurbing them as they get them back in. I was very pleased as I don't have to purchase holsters and hard case from Siedio again.
Well maybe this is just a temporary glitch but clicking on the "Device Software Update" link from post #1 takes me to a Page Not Found error. have they realized this upgrade is not working?
The direct download link, however, form post #1 still works as of this post.

I just navigated to the same page you did.
"the page you requested is not available"
I'm glad i posted the direct link. but as you stated, maybe there are other issues arising with this update.

Not sure what the issue is for youall... but I was able to download both the Vista and the XP versions from the VZ pages...
