Alright this is my second phone from verizon and coming from a first gen icrap user.
I had installed a sweet amount of apps befor my phone never woke up. I did alot of testing on that phone and now am ready to fill up on apps once again.
I want all the best players finger do-dads and userfriendly ideas out there...
I dont want to try install and deinstall all the apps out there again.
I recommend that you use as little as possible. The big mistake that a ton of people make is loading their device with so much crap it slows to a crawl. I have seen posts where people spend an insane amount of time trying to get a weather app to run properly. Weather? Really?
I play MP3s, watch movies, I get emails from work with attachments, edit them and send them back with revisions and I play a lot of games. I do it all with the default WM6 (6.1).
The big mistake people make when loading down their system is tweaking their interface. A neat new background? Cool. Stay away from anything that takes over your entire system.
And the answer to your question is stickied and answered to death.
TCPMP for movie/audio playing (anything WM can't handle alone).
Agile Messenger for messenging, supports ICQ, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, Google Talk, etc. But it isn't free.
Skyfire for browsing if you do anything that IE can't handle.
Don't install *anything* you don't need or regularly use.
I really like SPB's products for "finger friendly" access to things. Mobile Shell, Pocket Plus, and PhoneSuite all work nicely for me on my TyTN II and did on my i730 when I had that. Since they share some code, they also play pretty nicely together.
But I'll second the recommendation that you shouldn't install anything you aren't going to use regularly.

Palringo Is free and has most of the functionality.
The "best apps" and "best web sites" question seems to come up quarterly. If we can combine some of the WM 6.1 stickies, could we have one or two that answers these very good, but very frequently asked questions?
one of the best things i did to my phone was the registry edit to auto-disconnect the internet connection after a certain time of being idle... its really great to have this incase you don't get to charge your phone throughout the day but still need it to auto-connect for email and such without it killing your battery! You can check out a little writeup i did on it there:
Well... There are about 15 apps that seem to persist through my various configurations and of those these are the ones I can't seem to do without, in no particular order:
PocketInformant -I have it configured to look like my desktop Outlook and configured with templates and canned text to make my life easier when entering Calendar items in the field
TodayAgenda- I nicely featured Today Plug in that allows me to see my ToDos and Appointments on the Today screen, AND its FREE
Mapopolis-Yes I know they are no longer.. but I've been using this mapping program for years and it still works!
