I noticed the 760 vanished off the Verizon website, and found this post. 760 recall?? - PPCGeeks
They were never specific as to what the recall was for, but figured I would give everyone a heads up.
Thanks
Tate
**EDIT**
I went into a local VZW store because I needed to exchange my 760 and they confirmed that because the devices were having connection problems, they were not selling them, and could not exchange my 760. They ended up giving me a new 6800.
I actually liked my 760, but in all honesty at that point was willing to take any PDA that worked.
Thanks,
Tate
**Edit**
I would like to make one more final comment. I noticed that there have been comments about the 760 not being sold anymore, and according to the VZW Rep, that is quite untrue. The rep suggested that they are holding off on selling any more or replacing them only until the software issue is corrected.
The only reason they eplaced my device with a 6800 is because I could not go without one, until this was corrected. I'm very sory if anyone misunderstood my previous comments.
Thanks,
Tate

They ought to, this thing is a giant POS. I am constantly having to reset mine because of it going to sleep and not waking up, or having data stalls.
I love the WM device but am tired of having to deal with its wankiness. I have all of the same functionality minus the phone on my ipod touch now that i use on my WM device. I am tired of crap software and hardware on these WM devices.
This is my 6th PDAPhone and none of them were as good as advertised. I don't jam mine up with a bunch of 3rd party software and hacks and it should work better.
The only problem with the recall, is the rest of their inventory are even bigger POCs. I have a 6800, a 700wx and have played extensively with a 6900 and the HTC devices are of much poorer quality and the WX has a tiny screen.
Come on Verizon, where is the good hardware. Oh I know, you have "the network" you don't have to have good hardware.
Wow, I must have received a 'good' one, I've only had to reset mine a few times this year.

I just have to to soft resets once in a while... never had to do a hard reset.
I actually think the i760 is close to perfect. THe only thing i wish it had was a bigger, higher res touchscreen. The Touch HD looks amazing, but i prefer samsung over HTC.
Hmm dude, i dont know what you're doing wrong with your phone... I barely ever have to reset mine.. maybe once a week.

Did you not do the Software update that is available from Samsung's site? if you haven't please do, then it will not wake up on a daily basis.
Thankfully, I can't say I've had a similar experience:
Updated to 6.1 - check
Third party apps - lots
Lock ups requiring restart - zero
Granted, the phone restarts every day when I swap batteries, so it's not like I leave it running for days on end... but it's been dead reliable. Only problems I've had have been WM issues... NOT SAmsung issues.
Wouldn't mind a flush screen, though. I can see where this soft touch screen will pose problems over time. Until the Touch Pro or better yet, Touch HD come to Verizon though (wishful thinking, I understand), it's gold.
must agree with other posters - had no problems with my 760, before or after 6.1. now that i've got my 3rd party apps down i love it.
that doesn't mean i won't jump ship to the blackberry storm or the touch pro if vzw ever gets it, but until i get to try those out, im more than pleased with my 760.

I too have not had any issues with the phone or PDA... I have returned mine multiple times and they have all been related to the screen. I think this soft touch screen is more delicate than a the hard ones.. I've had self perpetuating cracks, the mysterious shadow, the blotchy displays colors.. I hope that is what the recall is for.

I have the 760, and my buddy just got one last week (he actually mentioned that both verizon stores he went do did NOT have the 760 on the shelf, but he asked a rep if they had it, and he said they did they were just in back.
So he called me up saying his internet was slow as hell, so I had him check to see if he had EVDO and he didn't. We checked and he DID have an MEID. I had him take it back and get a new one, and he got lucky and got a new one without a MEID and now his EVDO is working fine.
So, I'm guessing this is the issue causing the removal of the phones for sale and replacement.
I have noticed my replacement without EVDO, seems to lock up less. But then again I can't use some of my business apps or pull my email as easily as before either.
I would probably say those who don't know what the phone should be capable of doing as far as EVDO speed, unless they had another EV device, they are completely unaware there is an issue.

Update: Spoke to a data tech. They claim the recall of the phones are due to a problem with picture messaging and that the 6.1 update fixes it. They are having all current stock phones be loaded with the 6.1 update.
Have fun with the lockups! I hope others keep away from the MEID phones in the Ohio area at least.

Yah, i was unaware of the EVDO problem until stewart mentioned it. I do not have an MEID and i have EVDO all the time in Wichita, Kansas, no problems.
Anyway, lock up problems some have and this EVDO problem are two completely different issues. I'd say the EVDO problem could definately warrent a recall for those who can't EV signal. But not lockups.

What Apps do you have???
I ve had mine since dec of 07. I had it with no probs and no resets ever till July 08... yup and Argued a bit about the replace ment and was sent a brand spanking new one!! Yup New in the box with all the shin digs...
I did the upgrade flawlessly and still have not had any probs with 6.1... But I have yet to install any third party apps...
What would you recommend???
Anybody question here???
oh ya And I still have EVDO!!!
Wish Verizon would get the i900 on board!!!
I too have no problems. It runs even better after I did the 6.1 update, and doesn't crash on me like it used to.
I've only noticed some weird freezes when I'm taking pictures and I hit the sleep button too fast or something like that.
I have 3rd party apps like S2V, S2U2, PocketCM, WKtask, flashvideobundle, PPC Pimbackup, and some games.
I just wish it was a little more intuitive and user friendly. Especially for a first time PPC user like me. I've had it a year, and I'm still fumbling on it. But I like it anyway.
