It is a refurb... but still better than my i760 that i had for almost a year. It is almost new. It did come with 6.1 on it and appears to be working fine. I assume that the hold on the i760 is over. BTW factory refurb is not as bad as some make it out to be... it is returned to factory specs it may have been used, but returned in like new condition or whatever.
Gotta LOVE verizon for this one.
Did they send you one with an ESN or MEID. Do you have issues getting EVDO on the device? Is the MEID on your device 16 0's? I'm one of the ones affected with an MEID and NORTEL so this may be a way out for me.
Just bought the i760 2 weeks ago. Went into the VZW store cause it wont notify me when new text or alerts come in (settings are configured right). Tech support says best thing is to get a new one. Sent to Customer Service, who says no i760s because they are being recalled (no specifics as to why). Best bet is to get another phone. Sent to Sales guy who says only thing close to it is the VX6800.
I love the i760 so far (numbers on the outside are SO nice!). Doesnt look like VZW is willing to give me another i760. Anyone know any more about the recall? I can keep the i760 for now but need to decide if I should switch to the 6800 within 2 weeks (and they will waive the fee to switch).
I'd recommend calling Verizon technical support rather than going to a store for issues like that. I think you'll have much better results--the store staff just aren't trained very well on the smart phones in my experience.
If it was me I'd try a hard reset as well (either before or after calling Verizon depending on how much effort it is for you to restore your phone); just make sure you have everything backed up.
It is mostly 0's but not all. And does appear to have a MEID and an ESN it says hybrid,(whatever that means) and i never have a problem in Knoxville, TN with EVDO.
I have been in touch with Verizon Data Tech support for a couple months regarding the EVDO issue. I finally asked them if they could request Samsung to go into their warehouse and pull out a bunch of 760's with all 0's for their MEID and have them shipped to the local stores so those of us affected could swap out our phones. Verizon called me today and was told by Samsung that Samsung couldn't do that.
So...It was requested I call Samsung at 888-987-4357 (Samsung Mobile Help Line) . I did and it was a total waste of an hour. The first 2 people I spoke with didn't know what an ESN or MEID was. I finally got a supervisor on the phone who was totally unaware of this issue and was unaware Samsung wasn't still selling the 760. When I finally got her to understand what the problem was (lack of evdo on those phones with a MEID) she said to call Verizon as she was 100% sure this was a network and not a phone issue.
Samsung has to have a bunch of phones sitting in a warehouse. How hard can it be for them to pay some teenager to go into the warehouse and pull together all the phones with no MEID's. I don't have my box any longer but can't they tell just by looking at the box.
Any thoughts as to how we can force Samsung to take 1 day of 1 employee's time to solve this problem for us. I am very concerned that if Samsung supervisors at their Mobile Help line are unaware of the issue, then they are not very serious about solving this problem.

My phone says the same ... "hybrid" ... Does anybody know what this means?
hybrid means it will use 1x or EVDO. If you see under where it says hybrid, it lists the choices: hybrid, 1x only, EV only.
*edited to add I got my phone first day of retail, I have an ESN and not an MEID, and haven't upgraded to 6.1 and after reading this thread probably won't. Not because I think 6.1 is the issue, but because of the number of people that have bricked their phones doing the upgrade.
My battery life seems fine, I don't have to reset my phone frequently (maybe two or three times in a year), and the worst thing about the phone for me is the placement of the phone buttons on the side, and hanging up on people. Other than that, I love it! I will say I don't do any wireless syncs, email, etc. I realized that I don't want to be that "in touch." So I don't have the constant checking for emails, etc that most of you do, which is likely why I've never had a problem with battery life.

To those of you who have switched to the 6800... is it worth it?
I don't use EVDO, but I do have other lockup issues and such and am considering switching (assuming I'm still in warranty). Main thing I would miss I think is the front keypad.
It would be good to hear the opinions of those "switchers" on how they like the 6800 as compared to the i760. I'm having 0 problems with mine so I have no motivations to switch, but I almost got the 6800 instead.

Thanks. I will be contacting the VZW Tech Support to check with them about the issue. Will let you know if they offer anymore ideas also about the MEID issue *as mine also does NOT have all "0"s listed in there.

I'm curious of this too, I am either waiting until 1 year is up Feb and buying another phone or looking at switching to the 6800 now while under warranty.

I was so fed up with the Lockups and constant need to soft / Hard reset. oh and i was tiring of the poor performance with the BT on my I760 as well. The 6800 lacks the External Keys, i miss that, but the phone works so much better than my Samsung that I'm happy i Downgraded to the 6800. (also, my Rep will get me the next upgrade for no charge.)

If you are not having ANY problems, no need to change.
Oh, the Keys on the 6800 feel about 2x bigger than the Samsung.
My problems are lockups (especially with the microsd card in), and about 10 dark spots on the screen (it used to just be a few.... and I use a case! really!)
When you called verizon, did you have to send your phone in first or did they just send you the 6800 and have you send your i760 in after?

They will send you a NEW 6800. Since it's new they don't want the 760 back.
I've been having lock-up issues with my i760 for the past month, so Verizon is sending me an XV6800. It should arrive tomorrow, and I'll report back on my impressions as soon as I get a chance to use it.
The rep didn't indicate whether or not I'd have to send the i760 back. Hopefully not, maybe someone will be interested in buying it as is with all of my accessories.
Honestly, I'm going to be happy to be rid of the stupid Send/End key placements on the i760.
I had a 6800 for a while before the i760. I thought it was a POS and I came from a 6700 to the 6800. I hope they can sort the 760 issues out because I don't want a 6800.
