Angry Getting a 6800 as replacement for i760

Well, I bricked my phone, and none of the four resets (soft, hard, pass, or emergency) will progress past the Verizon splash screen. So I called tech support, and they agreed to send me a replacement -- but, no more i760s! So I am getting the 6800 (I could have had the treo, but why would I want that?)

I said that I don't think the 6800 is a legitimate replacement, and he agreed to put a note that I could trade back to the 760 if/when it becomes available. I have a year to go on my NE2, so we will see.

While I am waiting for my 6800, I am back to my trusty i730.

After about a week or so of calling verizon customer service and tech support, they are shipping me out a BB curve today. See you guys on the flip side, it's been real...

I'm getting the 6800 as well. they didn't mess with my NE2 which is good. and i don't have to give up my I760. even though it falls asleep and won't wake up.

The Curve is far from an upgrade to the XV6800 that you could have had.. sorry you have to leave.

(I think VZW would love to have given me the Curve instead of of the XV6800.). It's a much cheaper phone.
I will probably get the BB Storm when it comes out 11/4/08.

They first offered me the SMT5800 because the XV6800 was out of stock at the time, I told them I would either settle for the XV6900 or the Curve. I received a reply a few days later letting me know I could choose between those two phones. The XV6900 lacks a keyboard so I went with the BB, plus I was fed up with windows mobile. All I need the phone to do is handle email, calendar, and open the occasional document, and from what I heard the BB handles those tasks fairly well.

My wife has the Curve, she loves it. CEO here has the Curve (we have the BB Professional server.) he loves it. Problem with the BB is it will NOT connect directly to the Exchange server. You need the BES / BPS (BB Enterprise Server / Blackberry Profession server) in order to Sync your Calender and Contacts.

evdo

I've been extremely happy with my i760 even though I took a couple of downgrades to get it. I went with VZW because of the faster internet. Aside from the mushy screen and only having a 1.3MP camera, I absolutely love the phone. I've got every third party app you can imagine on it. (WAD2, WA3, S2U2, S2V, WLS, RESCO, WMWIFIROUTER, SKYFIRE, OPERA, iContact, CorePlayer, MemMaid, Gravity MusicID, Diamond TV, Resco Radio, SKTools, and more) It still runs great, although sometimes I do wish it had more memory.

Anyway, it's WM6.1 with 8GB SDHC, MEID is all 0's and no EVDO problems.

I love the i760, but in December I'm getting the storm and my girlfriend wanted the blackberry curve, you think VZW will trade the i760 in for the Curve or will they most likely only give me the 6800? I've been trying to stick through some of the troubles i've had but I would love to have the curve till December

Good News

I too had an ailing i760, bricked it on my 6.1 install, and have had a great experience with Verizon Tech support/cust service. They offered me a temporary xv6800, which i accepted. I have been reading this thread for about a month. And today i was told by my contact at verizon they had the i760 back in stock! They are two day shipping it to me. This has had not affected my NE2 stuff. i had a windows mobile device (6800)for a few weeks and they are fedexing me a fixed i760. I might wait a while on the 6.1 update. If it comes installed i will repost as soon as i get it.

typing on it hurts my hands. the keyboard is horrible, and there is no t9 support for the phone pad..
bad design choices.

I'm getting more used to it, but some of the punctuation mark placements are illogical. (you would think they should mirror where they would be on an actual keyboard) and you have to admit the lack of t9 support for the exterior phonepad is just stupid, and there isn't even a third party application that could take the place of t9 support.

mirror of a real keyboard would be really nice... i have yet to see that on any small keyboard, let alone mobile device though

i dont use t9 because i have a full keyboard

I agree on the punctuation or more specifically the placement of

' and , and .

I see no reason why

, couldn't be on B
and
. couldn't be on N
and
' couldn't be to the left of Enter

Would this be something that could be hackable in the registry?

Are they trying to reinvent the wheel? I see that the . key is easier to reach on this keyboard, but it's not where you've learned to look for it and typing is just part of my DNA at this point and I stumble over punctuation every time.

To date this is the only complaint I have about the keyboard which I find to be fantastic (my issue is having WM keep up with my typing)

yeah, and yes, you need t9, because you can't always use the keyboard. sometimes it is easier to use the front pad, which is why i'm sure it is there.

i bought a gps slim by holux to use with this phone, but its not working. has anyone gotten it to work? what gps device (bluetooth) successfullly pairs with this phone?

I've got the Freedom GPS. Getting GPS to work with the i760 is just plain quirky. You can search my old posts on the Freedom for documentation on how I finally got mine to work. Don't give up, you just have to find the magic sequence which oddly seems to be different for everybody.

My phone started acting crazy yesterday and I spoke with the support person yesterday and today and she said the phone is still not available and I should get the XV6800. Did the tech say he had only a few in stock or if it was a refurbished? I might have to ask the support lady to re-check and see.

he did not say if there were only a few in stock... he just emailed me and told me that he was able to locate stock in a warehouse and that he would be sending me one. I am guessing it will be a refurb but it is my understanding that anytime you replace a phone under warranty or even do an insurance claim it is their right to give you a refurb. The xv6800 i have had as a replacement was a refurb and in suburb condition. I am guessing the replacement i760 will be too. It is at my house in a box for me tonight so i will give you more info when i get it.
