well, its better to have something new than nothing...especially now when samsung i760 got discountinued and htc diamond, htc raphael and samsung omnia won't be available till early next year.
Looking at the pictures of the i770, nothing against it but the design was more unique for the i760. It might have some spec improvements, even though I am unaware of the details. The next true model following the i760 I think would be the i900/Omnia.
I am a little disappointed to see this because I thought Verizon would release the Omnia around the same time as the Blackberry Storm. I have stated I may be in to looking for a new phone to purchase, which in return will get me an i760, since I am such a damn sweetheart.. , and the Omnia was definitely high up on the list. But if Verizon is going to be releasing this version of the phone first and delaying the Omnia, the wait must go on.

This is interesting, I was at my local corp owned verizon store friday night and they still had the i760 on the shelf. When I asked the manager about any possible recalls, he mentioned nothing and hadn't heard anything about the i760.
I wonder how "fast" the information is tricking out..
there was a post on engadget mobile about the diamond being available in nov. because a training schedule had them finishing up training by then I believe, so thats not too far off
first - I have no problems w/ my i760 and I dont believe that there is any hardware/software issues related to the early releases of the I760. I have 4 employees with this phone as well and no problems. Recently I was unable to get EVDO on a new 760 for an employee and it was the MEID issue documented in another thread.
<rant> I think VZWs biggest problem with all of their hardware and them releasing their stuff really late is that they spend a ton of time reworking the OS to cripple stuff on all of their phones so that they can pimp their crappy services. Lets disable the GPS so you have to buy VZNavigator, lets disable the ICS so you cant tether, make them have to use get it now, etc. Not only does this unnecessarily delay the release of the new phones it makes them less stable. this drives me nuts. </rant>
So... I was finally able to get someone at Verizon to help me with my phone, and turns out that the phone has to be replaced. (1st time). She then continues to tell me that my phone is no longer available and she was going to find a comparable model. Except the only other phone that is close is the XV6800. But, that phone is not in stock! Then she tried to give me a Moto Q. So I have a phone that works about have the time, and a "pending case" with Verizon.
They tried to tell me the same thing last week when I had to exchange my 760 for another phone, and when they suggested the Q, I told them there was no way I was gonna take a Q in place of my 760. I then suggested letting me pick one (6800) up at a local store, The rep checked my local store and called to make the appropriate arrangements for me via notations on my account. Hope that helps.
As a side note to this whole mess, my local rep at the local corp store has 4 on the shelf right now and are unable to sell them or use them as replacements. Boy, do I miss my 760.
**The rep told me that it was due to the phone not connecting correctly to the EVDO**

Well I got confirmation from Verizon today, if you have the Win 6.1 upgrade there is a compatablity issue relating to the MEID. It made my phone go between no signal and 1X but would not register and not able to make vocie calls or data connectivty. I have a co-worker who has 6.0 there is no MEID on that version. That was added to the 6.1 Upgrade.
so if you have 6.0 do not upgrade!
If you have 6.1 and your phone works now cross your fingers. It took about a month for the System Upgrade to hit the West Coast. My phone worked Sunday and not on Monday. if you have 6.1 do a #43574357* if the MEID is all Zeros your good for now. If you see anything else there verify you have EV coverage. If not call Verzion and push to have the swap out your phone since they essentaily bricked mine yesterday. I was luck since I was still under Warranty.
Verizon took my FOURTH i760 in less than 30 days away from me today. They tried to give me a XV6800 NO DEAL! I used a XV6800 for three months...went through 3 of them! Verizon told me the i760 has a "...software compatibility issue." No eta on return to Verizon lineup. I don't like a "touch-screen" (only) PDA. The raised buttons on the i760 are convenient and easier for big-fingered guys like me. Anyway, Verizon promised me a "new" i760 via next day FedEx. That didn't happen.
As you can see from my response above you I am curious to know if just the MEIDs are effected? A Verizon technical support woman told me that they did not discontinue the i760. They are just waiting for a software update from Samsung.
It's a MEID issue. its not a lable on the phone for 6.0 phones do a #4357* in most cases on the system information screen there will not be a MEID.
if your running 6.1 you need to do a #43574357* if the MEID is all Zeros now your good to go for the meantime. if its anything else make sure your not stuck at 1X.
Som peoples phones work being at 1X mine would not connect at all and showed 1X.
I have a co-worker running 6.0 on his phone no issues, So my reccomendation is DO NOT UPGRADE untill this problem is fixed.
I am in the southeast, with 6.1 and on EV right now....has this tower upgrade supposedly happened in the southeast yet? BTW, I got my replacement right before this recall and immediately upgraded to 6.1...
the upgrade has nothing to do with it. I had got a 760 the day they were released. I upgraded to 6.1 no issues. In columbus, the NEW 760s are experiencing the MEID issue and the old ones that upgraded are still valid ESN.

Well I knew it wouldn't last a week. phone has been real sluggish, so much for the extra battery life, back to square one and the touch screen is not working that great you might have to touch something 3 or 4 times to get it to work. It will show ev then go right to 1x. the meid is not all zeros on mine either im going down to Verizon now about a replacement

Yup agreed. 30 miles away from Columbus and all the places I went in Ohio had NO EV on the MEID phone.
I had no EV with 6.0 before I upgraded it to 6.1 The software revision was BC04 for the MEID phones. BD14 is 6.1
I forget the original software release that has NO MEID SUPPORT.
Not an issue with 6.0/6.1 but the ESN/MEID alone.
