I don't know, guys. My i760 has been the best phone I've ever had. I was really disappointed to read this thread and find out so many are having troubles. I guess I got lucky with mine. Hope it keeps working as the alternatives I've seen have a hard time measuring up for me.

I have my phone replaced by Asurion 3 weeks ago. The new i760 has wm6.1 and so far I have no issues. It runs a lot better than my first i760. Verizon stores suck in Iowa. I went to 3 different locations to see if they will let me exchange it since it was brand new but each location kept on telling me to go to the other verizon location. I had issues with the black blotch on the screen and also the phone kept on acting up and didn't even go into stand by.

Just got my I760 replacement: an XV6800. Have had it for a week. I upgraded the OS to 6.1 and included the keyboard fix. The screen is brighter and easier to read, especially when the weather is sunny. I use it for a phone, pda and gps primarily (as I did the 760 till it became flakey). I enabled the Verizon crippled GPS and it works perfectly with IGuidance (with a little help from GPS Gate 2).

So, bottom line: I liked the 760 but love the 6800. Wish I had done it sooner.

Karma

My evil plot to wait until Verizon releases its next wave of smartphones before "upgrading" my 760 to 6.1 has a troubling new wrinkle. According to this link:

Verizon to require $30 data plans for new smartphones (Phone Arena)

Verizon will start requiring data plans with their smartphones on Nov. 14, conveniently one day before Blackberry Storm is released, and not too long before (after?) 770/Saga, 8650/Raphael, and Omnia are released. Doubt they will let me scream my way into a new smartphone without at least demanding an additional 30 bucks a month for internet... AT&T is looking better all the time...

Verizon switched me to the 6800. While I miss the keypad of the 760, the hack for enabling the built-in GPS somewhat makes up for it.

Most importantly, I've had no lockups which plagued my 760.

So my i760 has been freezing on incoming calls sporadically and not coming back alive more frequently as well. I called up Verizon and they said that it's under "extended warranty" and they have i760's in stock. Supposedly shipping it to me via FedEx 2day. This just seems contrary to what everyone's been saying here? Has anyone has similar experience? I thought they weren't selling them or stocking them anymore? I had mentioned to the guy that I heard it was discontinued/recalled but he said they have them. I just hope they don't end up sending me a xv6800...

I can confirm as well, that Verizon is once again stocking i760's. I called today as I've been having some problems with the touch screen not responding well even after several calibrations (I've had the phone for a year and use the touch screen a LOT, think I just wore it out...).

The rep had no qualms with acknowledging the issues that had plagued the recent batch of i760's and stated that that issue has now been resolved and they are stocking the phone again. Unfortunately, I was literally just DAYS out of my 1 year warranty and had to pay the $50 insurance deductible to get the phone replaced. That's what you get when you procrastinate, people....

At any rate, I am more than happy to get another i760, and the refurb unit should be arriving Monday. I love this phone probably more than a man should love a phone . It does everything I had wanted from a PPC and a lot of stuff I never though I could do with one. I have had the opportunity to use a few other smart phones, including setting up a blackjack II for my father, and a 6700 that my wife had for three months. Also, several of my coworkers have the sprint version of the 6800 and I've set up theirs with various software and played around with them a bit. Overall, I think the i760 is definitely better than any other PPC I've had the chance to interact with so far. Build quality feels worlds better (HTC phones feel like toys!), and the responsiveness of the phone is noticeably quicker. I was able to sit there and count of SECONDS waiting for the screen to rotate after opening the keyboard on the 6800's. The i760 does it almost instantly. Also, I have some emulators for playing old NES and Genesis games on my phone, which I gave to one of my 6800-owning coworkers, only to watch it run horribly when he tried to load up Sonic and Mario. The frame rate was bad enough that I would consider it unplayable. I noted the same thing on some Java games that I put on one 6800 to run under Jbed.

Don't let the identical MHz of the CPU's fool you, the 6800 IS a SLOWER device, at least in every way I was able to compare the two. The only advantages it has are the GPS and more built in flash memory. Oh and no squishy screen.

I know a lot of people have jumped ship... to each their own, you know how that is, but personally I don't think I would like any other phone as much as I love this one. I do not look forward to the day when there are no more i760's available to replace mine should it ever develop more problems in the future.

I have to disagree with first hand experiance! When I got my 6800 a week ago, I did a hard reset on my i760, and booted them both. The 6800 booted 5 seconds or so faster then the 760, also screen rotation was about a second faster! I run spb mobile shell, and it is NOTICEABLLY smoother/quicker on the 6800!

I had considered possible software that may have been installed on the 6800, but one of the ones I was helping set up for a coworker was fresh out of the box and had no apps installed.

*shrug* I definitely wouldn't want one, though I wouldn't call it a bad device by any means. To each their own.

I am sure Big Red is more than happy to unload as many i760s AND 6800s before (and after) the November release of their replacements. The 760 is not listed on their website, and most of the other smartphones on that list (they only have 6) are on their way out. Once they release the goodies, I plan to raise hell that the 760 is buggy, and the 6800 is not an adequate replacement. Even if all I cared about was the numeric keypad, they should agree that I paid for it, and give me a Saga. Doubt it will happen, but only a week or so to go...

Did u ask for a 6800 and they were out? Or did they let you choose? Every single Windows Mobile phone on Verizon's website is set to be replaced soon, some this month. Treo 800w is still expected to be one of those.
