Just got done installing. Went pretty well. I thought, based onw hat i've read and youtube videos i've seen, there was a new GUI on 6.1? My 'Windows Mobile 6.1' Theme looks like Windows Mobile Green.....just a little different.
Am I missing something? All of the features are neat and all....but for an upgrade like this I would like a little something more....visual to show off. So far it looks just like it did in WM 6.0. Sort of dissappointing.
Also, I haven't heard anyone here mention this. What about the domain enrollment. Another item that Microsoft was talking about and I've heard nothing about it. Not really sure what the benefits are to domain enrollment but I would like to play with it. I tried googling "Windows Mobile 6.1 Domain Enrollment" and got nothing. Well...nothing useful anyway.

I stand corrected....I apologize. I was confused by Google propaganda.
Besides...the question was never about whether or not the i760 was a smartphone or pda. It was about the interface for WM 6.1. But basically what I'm getting from the replies is that regardless of what Microsoft spouts off about WM 6.1, the new interface is only available for "smartphone" devices and not PDA's??? Or is it the difference from touchscreen to non-touchscreen that makes the difference in the interface...or should I say lack of new interface for the i760?
I'm just confused. I didn't realize there were different versions of WM 6.1.
Don't worry. Ignore the smartypantses. Of course the i760 is a smartphone, which is just a generic term for any phone that has pda/computer-like capabilities on top - Treos of all types, Blackberries, iPhones, Symbions, i760s and the like.
The confusion came when Microsoft used a generic term in a proprietary fashion. The Windows Mobile OSes used to be called Windows Mobile Smartphone (for non touch-screens) and Windows Mobile Pocket PC Edition (for touchscreens). It created plenty of confusion and snark in forums like this. Now they have changed to Windows Mobile 6 "Standard" (non touch-screen phones) and "Professional" (for touchscreens like the i760. Now we can all go back to having smartphones.
All I know is that it has been so long since I tweaked everything to my liking, I've had to re-study all the forums to re-learn how to make everything how I want it. It's like going back to school, hehe.
I must say.... my phone has not crashed at all since the update to 6.1.
It used to freeze up constantly whenever I hit the power button to put it to sleep, and then immediately hit it again to wake it up.
I'm a happy camper.
I make holes,
look in this thread and other stickied ones for 6.1 -- missing texts already addressed here many times
I have had 6.1 for awhile now, but out of the blue today my texting stopped working. Well not completely out of the blue. I had been texting quite regularly about every 2-3 minutes I would send/receive a text. Then I noticed the check spelling feature and tested it. After I did the spelling check I sent a text. This text did not show up in the threaded conversation nor did it show up in the Sent Items folder. When I receive a text I get the notification on the bottom of the screen that includes the contents of the text, but after I click "save as read" or go to the SMS conversation all record of the message existing is gone. The other interesting thing is my "Sent Items" folder Item count goes up when I send a text, but I can't find it anywhere! I also tried reprogramming and soft resets with no level of success. Using spell check was the only thing that happened between it working and not working...
Anyway all of that being said, I looked for a solution in all of this sch-i760 forum and couldn't find a helpful response for my situation. I do not have any SPB tools installed. Could you point me to a specific post you are referring to? I have not yet tried a hard reset, and would prefer not to.
Okay so I didn't back up my phone, cause I thought it would work seemlessly....go figure. Does anyone know of a site where I can download the 6.0 rom and re-install it? I can't live with only syncing to one device, and I can't live without being able to send e-mail from my phone. I went to the Verizon store this weekend, and they can't/won't do it in the stores...so short of calling and saying my phone doesn't work anymore, I am at a loss for the next step.

I'm confused. I have no issue with sending or recieving email.
idiot phone, i was referring to this thread -- http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/samsu...-old-bugs.html
this is stickied, ~188 posts and 5% or so are about missing/not arriving/wrong time sms messages.
However, after reading thru them again, i dont see anything that is similar to your situation.

I had upgraded my i760 a few weeks ago to 6.1. After the upgrade I had issues sending/receiving emails from my hosted exchange server at 1and1.com. They are currently running Exchange 2007, and I dont know if its related, but I think I came across others with the same issue. Basically, the instant push/pull I once had was not instant anymore. It could be anywhere from 30 min to an hour or so before my email would go out or before I would get my emails. I reset the device and reconfiugred the exchange a few times and still no-go. So I went to Verizon to downgrade the OS to 6.0. They told me it was NOT possible. That I can only go forward, not backwards. I just expressed to them that I really need my email to work properly and asked if theres some way they can fix it or send it to Samsung to fix. Instead he said he will just give me a replacement i760. Fortunately the replacement had 6.0 and now my exchange mail works great again!
BTW, my POP or IMAP mail accounts send/receive were not affected by the upgrade. Just my Exchange mail.
On the fence on the upgrade to WM6.1. Can anyone confirm that the upgrade will still not allow the I760 to work with My Location feature on Google Maps (or unleash any built in GPS feature)? Also, does anyone know if WM6.1allows setting of a dynamic time out or Auto Disconnecting Idle Data Connections - disconnecting on its own from data connection after a certain period of inactivity to save battery. Right now I would do that in WM6.0 with a registry hack. Thanks all.
I upgraded and Google Maps worked the same on 6.1 - My Location works properly. Still no builtin GPS features. Still have to use my Wintec G-Rays2 for GPS. I also noticed battery life seems better. I assume a few OS tweaks save power, but I don't see it disconnecting at all. I get Exchange corporate e-mail all day and my battery lasts well over 24 hours. (Bluetooth and WiFi off, of course).
Thanks Gary. So Google Maps worked for you even with 6.0? Mine says "Your handset doesn't seem to be compatible with My Location (beta) feature." Sorry to be getting slightly off-thread here...
David62 - There is no GPS built into the i760. If you want to use the "My Location" feture of Google Maps (or Microsoft Live) you must purchase an external bluetooth GPS device, as mentioned in several other threads. It works fine. (I just used it in Grand Teton National Park over Labor Day.)
Thanks JP. I know the I760 has no built in GPS. My Location works differently, triangulating with cell towers to give a more approximate location. I was hoping 6.1 would allow that to work....
