I believe the suggestion was to remove the battery, reinsert the battery, hold down clear, then power the phone on and boot up....
good luck

For people who are having the problem of not getting past the "Please Reset your device" screen, try uninstalling and reinstalling ActiveSync. That worked for me!

Got mine installed this weekend. I had no problems downloading or running the install program. After I sync'd the phone to backup all data, I had problems with my phone being recognized by my computer to sync for the install. I played with the phone and computer for about 15-20 minutes, rebooting each, unplugging, re-running the install program, etc. After about 20 minutes I finally got the "detected" to come up on the install program. After that no problems at all. No install fails or anything. Turned the phone on and everything seems to work fine. I installed my 6GB card I paid $70 back in February and it worked great! I'm reinstalling my software now with no problems. I haven’t searched yet, but has anyone tried WiFiRouter yet on 6.1? That's all I have left to install. Man, gotta love the 6GB capacity. I might have to break down and buy an 8GB!

At top of list click on software and this opens pdf file. There is underlined link to click and this opens file which by reading carefully tells you where to click to download rom update. On this page carefully read and you will find the actual download link. It is small print and easy to miss. It is just below info on how to verify if your phone has right version for the upgrade.

https://techtrain.samsungwireless.co..._patch_xp.html is the link.
OK Thanks for info. It turns out that my IE policies were not allowing that particular line to be visible. It took a while but eventually opened up that site and found the line and downloaded the executable. Thanks again.

Hey so I'm excited for the 6.1 update. I've been MIA from the forums for a while. I want to update my phone but I'm worried about one thing. I don't have too many programs installed on the phone so I'm not worried about loosing those. I sync my phone with outlook so most of the information is backed up. My one concern are my SMS messages. Is there a way to archive these on outlook 2007? I've tried searching these forums and google with no success. Please help a fellow i760 user out. Thanks.

My installation went without any unexpected hitches.

Since the setup program disconnected the phone after the PDA Update, it asked for a reset. It seemed to go through the Flash ROM copy again, but then quickly finished and then updated the phone.

I am running Vista 32-bit and had WMDC and the Modem driver installed previous to the update.

NO BRICKS HERE!!!

....and I am ecstatic that Windows Mobile 6.1 recognizes my 4GB SDHC card

Unbricking?

Has anyone who has a brick actually successfully unbricked it following this? I got the eboot error and have tried every reset possible and keep getting the phone to say "Clearing data..." at which point it appears to be stalled out. If i hold clr+right soft key + reset it says:
"PHONE Emergency mode"
"Clearing data... "
if i power on + clr, i get
"Pass"
"Clearing data..."
anddddddddd... it's stalled there, doing nothing.
yeah.
so anyone got another idea?

so.. for those that got a new 760... what did you tell your friendly verizon rep... i read someone say that they official support 6.1 now... anyone admit to the upgrade when getting a new phone?

well, there goes that. 40 minutes on verizon support and they are sending me a new phone. The nice thing was after i got past the first useless tech, the second one said "oh, you already tried those three types of resets and removed and replaced the battery? let's just send you a new one"
G-d, i hope they send one preloaded wiht winmo 6.1 so i don't have to attempt and brick another phone. if i do, i'm doing it on an old xp box.

My phone upgraded but samsung drivers never did install. Yes the right new version for pda and phone I never got new hardware screen. Took two attempts. Still having 85010014 error code stopping me from synching contacts. No one anywhere seems to have an answer for that so I just use AS to install/uninstall progs and backup/ restore contacts to storage card.

Question not really a 6.1 problem?

ambrowill, after looking at some of your earlier posts, you had this problem (no outlook contact/cal syncing) in WM 6 as well, didnt you?

I didnt see you mention it, so if you havent used the scan tool to repair your your outlook data, maybe you should. It worked wonders for me (thanks, PerfAlbion!).

Also, google is your friend!

Couldn't get beyond the PDA update on my work computer, tried a bunch of variations but would always stop there and go through the same process the next time (didn't notice it being faster or skipping the PDA install section on subsequent attempts). Got home, loaded everything up on my desktop and it went without issue. Both computers running XP sp3, the work one has Symantec endpoint protection on it and even disabled, that's my bet as a culprit whenever there's an issue like this Unfortunate thing was that I'd copied my phone's windows\messages folder before hard resetting the first time thinking that would be sms but it isn't, so old ones are now gone it appears.

Has anyone had any success RE installing the update? after a successful update.
The reason I ask is because I find that anything you install on a windows mobile device, stays there. Even when you clear the data.
Little things stay behind and a flashing the ROM would really be useful.
I already updated th 6.1, without problems. But now I want to reinstall the update. The program tells me that it's already updated and the program doesn't support reinstalls.
Anyone get past this? Or am I the only one with this particular need...
Jay

If it successfully installed as you say, there shouldn't be a need to reinstall.

Flashing the ROM does erase the memory (I should know b/c I forgot to backup my installed software and my contact list - which I am still in the process of restoring)

There is nothing left when you flash the ROM - just like flashing a BIOS chip: if it fails or is corrupt, nothing is there for it to boot from.

What is the version of S/W and H/W on the phone?

It sounds like you are simply asking to re-install after a successful install. That's like saying I installed Windows (XP or Vista - take your pick) successfully and applied all necessary updates, but I want to reinstall b/c somehow my old Windows installation of 2000 is still there. That simply can't happen. Of course, then, you get in to dual booting which does not even apply here :-p

I am running windows xp pro corporate sp3 on my home computer. I was just wondering if this will be a problem for installing 6.1 on my phone? The Verizon and Samsung websites say that xp sp2 is required. I am not sure if this is going to be a problem or not. Is there anyone out there that has tried this already or not?

I've tried the scan to no avail and spent dozens of google hours on this. Your suggestion is common and it is just a starting point.

Update doesn't work on Mac running Fusion

I tried to update the phone for several hours last night using my Mac which is running VMWare's Fusion and WinXP Pro (all with latest updates, including Activesync 4.5). Kept getting hung up on the "phone didn't reset" thing. Then I broke down and ran the upgrade on a regular WinXP computer. After upgrading to Activesync 4.5, the upgrade went about 50% through the 1st time, told me to reset the upgrade program, and then went through 100% the second time.
