Ok... 2 things I noticed. First, when I go to send a new text message to someone, when I type in the first letter of thier name, the drop down with all the names in it is no longer there... anyone else have the same problem or was this removed from 6.1
and also, from what I said in the seperate thread about my email count being wrong. there are no new emails but it still says there are 7 new ones.
For what it's worth, when I installed the upgrade I didnt do anything special. Nome of the "turn your internet off, only use the Samsung USB cable" stuff.
I used a retractable charge and sync cable. I did hard reset the phone BEFORE upgrading. I did run into the snag that everyone else did where the phone gets stuck on the last portion. I simply soft reset the phone and restarted the installer. It finished successfully the second time and I verified I have the right version numbers for everything.
I had to reauthenticate my phone after the upgrade, otherwise no real issue.
Got replacement device, tried to update to 6.1, and bricked this one too. This really sucks. I don't know what the hell else to do, I followed the directions word for word.

Anyone upgraded using the 'new' Samsung links for Vista 32-bit users since it's 'taken-down & replaced' stint over the past day + ?
Yep, I just upgraded with the 'new' installer under Vista 32-bit. I initially had some trouble with the first few steps (enabling USB connections in WMDC and then disabling them after the first restart) but after turning off the unbelievably stupid User Account Control "feature" in Vista it worked great. I didn't even have to run it multiple times!
It may be worth noting that this was on a shared workstation (since I normally use a Mac) and I had created a new user account just for running the upgrade.
Also: Interestingly, I had gotten my hands on the mirror of the 'older' version of the upgrade tool that was originally posted and then removed, and the files seem to be identical. Both claim to be v3.0.0.7, and the file sizes are the same as well. Why did they bother to take it down if they were just going to put the same one back up?
you guys check out this link below: Samsung SCH-i760
it's the link to the i760 support page on Verizon's testman site. On the bottom there is a software update link which takes you to Samsung's website and tells you it's only available on 32 bit Vista machines. Anyone tried this on a 64 bit machine? Do you guys think this is going to be the final version or the final might have some changes?

Sadly, it will not work on a 64bit OS. I had to do the update on a secondary computer.
Tried on Vista twice. I might just try an XP machine when I get my next replacement.
I bricked mine on vista, i am hessitant, but i am going to try on an old xp box around here, ill chime in shortly after i get my phone in the morning, and let you know how it worked out.
my desktop is a 64bit vista os i have a laptop with a 32bit vista. Guess i'll try it on the laptop. but you guys think the final version will be differant than this one?
upgraded yesterday. Absolutely no problems on XP. FYI - do not turn off phone service as it will prevent your device from being recognized when you install the new modem drivers.
With all these issues it might be helpful if the thread was split into 6.1 upgrade via XP and 6.1 ugrade via Vista. It seems after readying 100+ posts that the issues are mainly related to Vista so spliting the thread might help isolate some of the issues since it is hard to tell what OS some posters are describing.

if most of the issues are with vista as you said, then why would you split the thread.? This thread (now) is basically the You have Problems (cause your running Vista) Thread.
and yes, you are right. I read the posts, all who have Vista are having problems. I stated in one post, Vista is bad. I'm just happy i Bricked my Windows Vista computer and went back to XP years ago.
Upgraded my phone last night with the new links at Samsung with Vista 32bit and had no issues... ran it once, and that was it... maybe there was a small change in the new file???

I guess my suggestion was to make it easier for anyone that had problems w/ an XP install. Or so that the Vista users wont have to read all the - "Well it works ok on XP threads". Hasta la vista ...vista!
I don't want to divert too much here, but if this creates soo many problems why "upgrade," at all. I am not hearing any glorious, "oh wow 6.1 is waaay better."
6.1 isn't "way better".... it's .1 better Not reallly a huge difference. The phone definitely does many things noticeably faster. Threaded messaging is nice. Zooming out in PIE is nice but Opera still still leagues better. Keyboard lag has been greatly reduced. Pairing BT headsets is easier and faster.
There were a few hiccups but once they were ironed out I'm happier having done the upgrade.
I upgraded on an Acer Vista 32 bit laptop using a Boxwave retractable charge and sync cable. I only had the common issue of having to restart the process once to get the upgrade to complete. I did hard reser the phone be upgrading and I think that was a good idea, give the updater a clean slate.

I think the biggest problem with the Install is all the junk people put on their computers whether it be on XP or Vista. (Oh, and I have a lot of junk on my XP machine). the first install on my machine with my Phone took two tries, and my Phone had a lot of stuff loaded on it. it just hung on the finding port when it went to upgrade the Phone part.
The Second phone done about 1 hr later had little stuff installed (Yahoo2go i think). I had to reboot my PC 2 times several reboots of the phone, Then I did a Remote wipe of the phone, and finally it took on the upgrade 1 Time all the way through.
oh, and i won't allow Vista in my Workplace. (we have over 40 computers here.)

Here's my reason for liking the upgrade to 6.1 -
I travel quite a bit in the U.S. (airline pilot). Now my phone automatically updates the Home timezone when I turn it on in a new city. Works better for me as I use my phone for my alarm clock. I've read that users in Phoenix have some problems with this, but they can just select manual timezone.
