ok I would like to ask a question before the problem occurs.

I am going to install 6.1, but first I would like to make an image of my phone so I can restore it just as it is now if something goes wrong with 6.1. However, if I have to do this, will I have to find the 6.0 ROM or will I just be able to restore?

Also, could someone recommend a reliable program to do this?

Thanks.

Sprite Backup seems to be the prefered backup software. I've never tried it. I'd love it if there was a free alternative just as a backup. However, if the upgrade fails and the phone is "bricked" I'm not sure how useful such a backup would be.

*Worked - a few restarts and a do-over and it's all good in the hood. Now to find out which software I can no longer use ...

One thing - is there no way to get the m.youtube vids to fill the screen in Full Screen mode? Silly WMP - must replace.

Your install is not complete...your phone update did not take...here are the complete results:
PDA: S:i760.07 V.BD14.19202
Phone: S:i760.07 V.BD14
Eboot: 02.00

Others have had this result, you'll have to research how they resolved...mine was successful first try...sorry...

pda: i760.07 v.bd14:19202

UPDATE: I ran the update on my home pc running XP Pro SP3. It worked! Funny thing, however, not sure if this is normal: I ran the updater one time and I noticed that the phone did not update, only the PDA did. I ran the installer a second time and this time the phone updated as well! WOOT-WOOT!

Yep I can also confirm. If you get the "Port" error. Just run the program again as it says and it will finish.

Mine did the same thing when I started trying, I was ready to give up. Then I closed all of the other windows that I had open and deleted the original file I had downloaded. Downloaded the same file again, extracted, tried again and it worked. Be patient and persistent

I tried it on my phone and "bricked" it. I couldn't boot into anything at all. I took it to a Verizon dealer and they arranged to have a new one sent to me. I only told them that I was "updating software". When they asked what software I only told them that is was software that was working fine before the update.

Isn't this an official VZW Release?

When you re-start the process the second time, don't forget to enable the USB connection so that the installer can find the device on the second try.

And, although it appears to go through all the same steps teh first time, it is really fast through the first two parts. Perhaps the installer sees that the PDA is updated and doesn't do it twice.

OK... I have a 760 that has no number on it (for now). Started the upgrade and all was going fine until about 80% when the phone rebooted and got stuck at Download Failed, EBoot Download Failed. Now it's stuck at Clearing Data.

I called Samsung and they told me that I need to send the phone back to them or take it to VZW. I chose VZW.

The arrogant SOBs at VZW did nothing but completely dismiss me. They wouldn't do a thing. Mind you I am the admin for a 300+ line account and told them to put the device onto another line temporarilly and they told me to basically scratch.

I left.

I tried the Emergency mode, but can't get past it.....

Any thoughts?????

I have the same situation, only when I called the FRU replacement line all I told them was that I was doing a hard reset to start from scratch and I told them what it said on the phone and they are sending me a replacement. I should have it wednesday. Any suggestions on what not to do so this doesn't happen again? It just failed after starting to upload the new rom to the phone.

Being sort of an amateur here, I am not as technologically inclined as others. I also dont want to risk 'bricking' my phone. Would it just be advisable to wait for the official VZW release? Also, is there a way some honorable and generous person could give a step by step account of how to fully install 6.1 and how to back up contacts. I have read all over this board, but have alot of issues backing up due to Vista (POS). Any help would be much appriciated!

ps* is it possible to just copy the pim.vol file to my microsd card and then use that to restore contacts after 6.1 is installed?
