I managed to essentially "Brick" my i760 the other day. I had just finished hard resetting and loading all of my most used applications. I was doing all of this from my laptop. At the end I was just starting to sync my contacts and files and all that stuff, when I closed the lid to my laptop. Yes it is set to go into suspend mode when the lid is closed and on battery power. Oops! Phone would no longer sync at all and even after uninstalling/reinstalling activesync as well as hard resetting the i760 again and again. I could not get it to come fully back to life. I could hard reset and get basic settings going but as soon as I tried to install anything it would freeze and the background would turn to an aqua color. I say all this because I got an email today from Samsung with a link to a page that lets me monitor the status of the repair. So far here is what it says.

PASSED INSPECTION SENT TO S/W FOR UPDATE

The part that caught my eye was of course "Sent to S/W for update." Now my question is this... Did they really mean "Update" or just that they were going to flash the phone again with the original firmware?
I will keep you all up to date as I get new information.
I just wanted to add one more thing. Could someone please post the current firmware/software versions? I forgot to write mine down before I sent it in.
I have been wanting to buy the i760 for awhile but haven't yet, but I have been keeping up with the info. I called Verizon a few minutes ago and asked about 6.1 for the i760 and the lady said I have no alerts about this. They need to get there ___ together.

Thanks!
I don't know whether this is the most current, my i760 shows:

Thanks! Here is an update on my phone "*05/16/2008 //17:51:45 //RSI_TECH11 //
NO TROUBLE FOUND. REFLASHED".
Since it says "Reflashed" it seems as though I will be getting the same version back. I guess I won't know for sure until it gets here. Once I get my phone back I will post the versions of firm/software.
I talked to a VZW Tech on the phone today, and he said the update would be available at some point, but would void insurance, and warrenty. How can they do this? Its a update from Microsoft?????????????????

I remember they threatened that when the WM5 update was released for the i730... if they release it, it will come with a seal of approval from VZW... I think the tech you talked to may have thought you were going to used a cooked ROM or something home brewed.

Mark,
You are giving the CSR too much credit.
They just don't know what they are talking about!
I would love to have a rep tell me that my warranty would be voided.
This is why I will be leaving VZW in the next 6 months.
I have been with them for a very long time but enough is enough.

So it has been shipped out and I have tracking info and as soon as I get my phone I will let everyone know what version was loaded. I'm about 99.9% sure though that it will be the same as everyone else.

The only exceptable upgrade for this phone now is the new iPhone being released next month.
VZW watch your market share disapear.......

I probably am giving them too much credit... but If I didn't endow them with something it would be too easy... like shooting fish in a barrell..
So Mark you've been threatening to jump to an iPhone at some point.. You'll have to keep us apprised of the color of the grass when you get to that side of the fence...

Hmm jump from one crippled device to another crippled device.
OtherDevice - crippled by lack of hardare: no bluetooth, no memory slot --Don't forget the now uber vulnerable safari (Apple 'OK' With "Carpet Bombing" vuln for now).
Not that PIE isn't vulnerable but you get the idea. Out of the frying pan into... well, another frying pan.
Maybe if you just hang for a bit we might have some neat-o, peachy keen ,kewl, "l33t", nice stuff for you to really take contol of your device. Ultimate configurabilty is what I want.
The problem with the i760 isn't VZW or Samsung. Its WM6 that holds the potential of the i760's cornucopia of hardware options back. I doubt WM6.1 will be much different.
btw - Ew, you said iPhone.

What do you mean by "no bluetooth"? The iPhone definitely has Bluetooth. It does not, however, have a user-replaceable battery. As to BT, I don't think it has A2DP.

The iPhone offeres a better UI and music experience than a WM-based model, but really isn't superior in any other way. and it has the Handsfree BT profile, and nothing else. It's insane that a phone so centered on music hasn't got A2DP. Maybe the 3G will be better, but right now it's an alternative to, but not a real improvement on, the WM phone market.

My bad. For some reason I was under the impression that the iPhone flat out didn't have bluetooth. Maybe because iPods never had bluetooth...
Either way illrigger is right. Both WM and iPhone are handycapped on purpose. Is there a third option? A real one, not like the green party.

the microsoft os upgrade couldnt possibly void the warranty... the rep was just misinformed or something. microsoft DID release the free office 7 upgrade, and that was even accepted by VZW. not that they TELL anyone about it, but it is available

Wow I was shocked to see you say this! Go Mark! I actually agree for most part..especially with the dislike you have for Verizon..3G iPhone with nice UI, nice browser, and now its going to be fast with the internet speed.. I haven't looked into the newest iPhone to come out really in a while. Do we know the specs for it for sure at this point? I wasn't planning on moving to it, though I can see the appeal, but I'm definitely open to hearing about it when it comes out.
I actually contacted Microsoft and they told me that they do not release the software/firmware that it would have to be samsung that does it and Microsoft has nothing to do it. It has to be Samsung that releases this. After contacting Samsung they said they do not plan on upgrading it.
I got my phone back today. There is nothing new. My software and hardware versions match exactly with the above quote. I just hope them flashing the phone fixed my problem.

Jabra makes (or least they did) a bluetooth transmitter that attaches to any iPod (other than the original Shuffle). It works nicely with my 5G Video iPod and my Moto BT headphones. I'm hoping it will work with the iPhone.
