From what we know, Verizon's approval standards are going to be very lenient. Basically, if the phone is technically capable to work on Verizon's CDMA network and passes FCC standards (that all phones have to), it will be supported Verizon. This completely changes the game for CDMA as the new phones will be just as good as the ones available on GSM carriers. Also, more companies able to produce phones for Verizon = more available phones = more competition = better features, phones, and prices for us.
One would think....
VZW's not stupid. They will keep their thumbs pressing down on this to protect their profits. Keep your friends close, keep your enemy's even closer......

Sorry guys... we are left out of this one. Check out the bottom where they list the current available phones that will be upgraded... notice how you don't see the i760?
I swear, if my i760 doesn't get a bump up to 6.1... I will cancel all 10 phones I have on the Big Red network. The phones are dated already, atleast give them the new update!
"The software package will be bundled by cell carriers into a Microsoft Mobile Service Plan that includes cell service. Verizon Wireless will be one of the carriers, Microsoft said."
VIA: AP.GOOGLE
I spoke to a friend who works for Verizon and she said that the update will come along for the i760, "Verizon is just really anal about testing and reliability, but they have strong ties to Microsoft so naturally they are trying to appease the beast." I guess I'd like everything to work after the upgrade/update, rather than have it right now.
I remember the lag behind the update for WM5 with Verizon. I was on the MotoQ then. It took a bit, but Verizon came through. VZW just needs to mod it up a bit so that "Wireless Sync" and their other "services" are bundled in the software, also they will want to remove internet sharing and various other things we like to play with.
FYI: There are lots of hacked roms (Samsung Blackjack to name one) out there. They've been out there since mid March or so. They all include the 6.1 upgrades/updates. (XDA is slow as hell today BTW, load time is like hours not minutes s no links for now)
NOTE: I would not reccomend trying any of the hacked WM6.1 roms just yet. Unless you know what you are doing and can backup the original rom, and or are willing to sacrifice your phone.
I'll probably wait until a month or two after VZW puts the update out there, wait for some of the kinks to get worked out, then upgrade. If no upgrade comes from Verizon, I''ll just have to use (or create) a hacked rom image. ...That is unless WM6.1 kills the SDHC fix for 4gb micro SDHC cards on the i760. I need that extra storage more than I need added functionality.
More news as it comes out.

Um, you wouldn't be able to install this via windows update.
Have you seen what blackjack users had to do to upgrade their phones?? CLICKY
DAMN thats alot of steps!1!1!!11!!!1!!1!
I know... doesn't look fun to install. But it's worth it. I love updates. ... after seeing Windows Standard... I wish that Today screen was an option for professional. It looks sweet.
Just spoke with a Verizon Rep who stated "6.1 will be available from the Microsoft site as a download for th i760." As previously stated above...Verizon tests 3 version of the upgrade...professional, standard and pda. Professional and standard will be released...pda version, as in th past with the Q and others...can cause a system lockup at times when the phone is answered. The upgrade that will be available will work fine with i760.

Is it going to be a completely new ROM or an update that won't require a hard reset? Or did you ask...
