The os on our device is a modified os by Verizon. There are a lot of things removed.
VZW would not allow MS to give us an update over the air. VZW would lose control if they did. Plus, VZW support has to be trained on the new OS so I could see VZW not giving us the update. They already sold us the device and a contract why should they give us an upgrade? What's in it for them?
Becuz we won't be repeat customers of VZW unless they shape up!!

Yes you will or you would be with another Carrier now.
Lets face it VZW is not i the business of providing the best coolest devices to us. They are in the business in making money.
Putting out an update to a phone that is one year old. (actually closer to two) will not make any money for them in fact it will be a loss for them.
VZW is working on testing the next devices that they can cripple and release to us.

Come on Mark, you know VZW ain't doin' squat with any new devices! They just released last years technology today and won't think about anything new until atleast next year. As proof, we have not heard any rumors regarding new VZW phones and those rumors are usually 2 yrs in advance.
My understanding of the April date... it's not a release, but rather an announcement by Microsoft at the MobileCongressSomething (April 1-3) that Windows Mobile 6.1 actually exists. Surprisingly even though everyone already knows about it, Microsoft has NEVER talked about it... so April 1st will be the announcement probably announcing a future date for the available update.
And I am hoping it's a Windows Update and not a service provider download... or we are all out of luck.
Not true regarding new phones, has anyone seen a rebate form from VZW lately? We are getting the XV 6900...basically a revamped HTC Touch...its pretty cool then again, thats about it...

VZW is losing people left and right, not only to the Tilt, but to the iPhone as well. They have already announced Exchange support *for the iPhone* and when HSDPA hits, watch out VZW.
"Can you hear me now?" "Sure can, but I'm listening to you on a piece of S@#$ 2 year old phone!"
the word i heard last was that the april 1st date is the date the CARRIERS will receive the update so that they can edit it. or in verizons case, butcher it. lets see just how many features we will get out of the update.

this is not quite true... there was a designer rep who was interviewed after the leak of that Q with the new 6.1 update... he said it was out there, and the update would be available in the near future.
that being said, i can only imagine when verizon will actually release their limited version of the 6.1 technology. only time will tell... but im looking forward to the adapted versions im sure will hit the net.
Verizon already announced BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) will be out in 4q of this year, and verizon won the auction for the bandwidth the fcc auctioned off. One provision of the auction was that whoever won had to open up their network to devices from other carriers. (Hence the reason Verizon announced BYOD a few months before they won the auction) They knew they wanted the bandwidth, and I bet they would have paid double what they ended up paying.
Verizon doesn't have to give us cool new phones after this year. Go buy a verizon approved phone on amazon or ebay or anywhere else and bring it with you.

Key word is "Approved"!!!!!!!!!!!!
That means they could tell you to disable some features of the native device.

Verizon and firmware updates for PPC Don't happen. No money in it for them they already have your money.
I760 is not popular enough for the supper guru's to make hacked upgrade.
But I like this phone a lot more then the XV6800

From what we know, Verizon's approval standards are going to be very lenient. Basically, if the phone is technically capable to work on Verizon's CDMA network and passes FCC standards (that all phones have to), it will be supported Verizon. This completely changes the game for CDMA as the new phones will be just as good as the ones available on GSM carriers. Also, more companies able to produce phones for Verizon = more available phones = more competition = better features, phones, and prices for us.
