No local stores in MO or in MI are allowed to flash any PDA phone. They tell me to contact tech support, and any updates are on the web. So this guy must have told you wrong.

After 40 minutes on the phone with Verizon, I was told to download VZA Access Manager for the update. Clearly this program doesn't do the job, so i was transfered to someone else. After about 25 min on hold, he told me, yes, there is a new update out, but he has no idea how I get it. Told me he would call back.

I quickly sent an email to Verizon on their sub-par customer service.

This is getting ridiculous, Verizon service is terrible, just tell us when we will get some kind of update. Forget windows 6.1, just give us SOMETHING.

I love all the anger at Verizon.

Verizon hasn't promised an update. They haven't officially said anything about an update. They don't owe us anything.

I'd love to see an update for the i760. I think it would be great for all of use who have invested a bunch of money in the hardware. I think it would be a good decision for Verizon who seems to be a little behind in hardware and software. But the truth is that the i760 worked as well as or better than most any smartphone on the market from the day it was released. It isn't begging for an update to fix existing problems. We're all just hoping Verizon hooks us up.

Why is everyone getting so uptight about 6.1? It's just a minor upgrade. It's not even a full build upgrade. 7.0 is a major upgrade, not 6.1. If you're able to use your phone and it meets your needs, then what else do you want? Are we going to have the same debate if their is a 6.2? 6.1 will come out, and people will complain that their phone doesn't work the way they want it to. The people will be requesting Verizon to reflash their phone back to 6.0, while they wait for perhaps a better version called 6.2 or 6.3 or 6.4 .....

I agree the only thing that really needs to be fixed it the BT issue. That is just unacceptable.

Its not that I'm mad at verizon, or that I EXPECT an upgrade, it's just that there is all this speculation that there is an update and Verizon should just come out and either say no there isn't an upgrade for the phone, or no we are not offering Windows 6.1 to any phone or our phone. I'm just sick of waiting, the slides say it comes out in June (who knows if they were official slides) but I was want to know if I will ever see an update, or if I'm wasting my time checking this thread every single day. Every day I come on this site just to see if there is new word on an update.

If there isn't an update I am perfectly fine with that. The bottom line is I just want to know if I have something to look forward to or not.

Verizon has never promised a 6.1 upgrade. The slide was internal and never was made official anywhere on their web site. It's much easier to just accept that there is no 6.1 upgrade for this phone, then to get excited by rumors. It's a meaningless waste of time. The phone is already old. New models will be coming out. In the cell phone world, 1 year is old and outdated.

Yeah I understand that they never promised one, and just all the hype got me excited, but yeah slowly forgetting a 6.1 exists.

Totally agree. I haven't seen much of 6.1 that I like any more than 6.0, in fact I prefer 5.0 (xml coded today screen was awesome!!). I just want the "upgrade" ROM. Samsung devices are apparently notorious for their odd ROM structure and the difficulty in creating cooked ROM that don't brick your phone. With the 6.1 image as a reference to patch a cooked ROM life would be a whole lot easier for those of us who just love to hack the ever lovin heck out of every piece of tech that they own. Could just be me though.

That and I'd feel empowered despite my mental impotence and lack of money.

For those sticking up for Verizon, how do you explain them telling customers "Yes, there is a software update for your phone, but we don't know where it is. We'll call you back when we find out."

Some product support there, eh?

I agree bodean, there service is uninformed regarding everything, one of the tech service guys didnt even know how to activate the phone, he had to ask the lady next to him. And thats the same complaint I have, if they are going to say yes there is an update, then where? when? but if not, then don't tell us there will be. I'm happy with the phone if there isn't, I will be happy if there is.

Then I don't understand why you are even following this thread.

We all know a version 6.1 exists and has been released on other phones. It is not too much to expect VZW to tell customers whether the update will be available. Outdated or not, the phone was first released 9 months ago.

Um, nobody is perfect dude. At my company we have help desk folks that give out false info from time to time. I certainly don't think it means my entire company sucks.

Hell, did you read the story where some hackers simply emailed apple support to get somebody else's password reset and they simply did it? It happens, doesn't mean the whole company sucks.

My anger is the lack of a promise. Atleast some AT&T & Sprint customers know that ONE day they'll get an update.

They don't owe us anything. Sure. But for the retail price of their PDA/Smart phone line up, I think warrant continuous support and updates.

Oh well, my last post. I already sold my phone. Shipping it to a new home tomorrow. Good luck guys.

Here is some info for ya... We met with some Microsoft folks about their Mobile Device Manager software. Well, it works only with 6.1. We are going to test with it but told him we are a VZW shop and don't have any 6.1 devices. Well he said it depends on the device vendor, but with our VZW rep's permission he can flash Moto Q9c or Q9m devices to a 6.1 build. I was getting excited until he said that he can't do it with the i760 update that is coming out because they did not get the build for that one.

Take it for what it's worth..

#1 Glad to see a few people checking the thread that actually want an update.

And dorf, so does that mean there will be an update, but not 6.1 or there will be one with 6.1 but you can't do it? Didn't completely understand the final point.

mazz,
Yeah, sorry, that was confusing. Yes, he mentioned the 6.1 i760 update and that in that case they were not given a build to use to flash devices for customers like Moto/VZW provided for the Q9C and Q9M.

I think Microsoft is really pushing their System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 product, which is pretty sweet (add WM devices to the domain, apply group policy, data at rest encryption, deploy software packages, inventory, VPN, setup like BB where you just enter your email address and a temp password and it sets up your device.)

All that functionality requires Mobile 6.1 and I think they are pushing a little harder then normal to get vender's to issue updates. Verizon ain't got jack for 6.1 and for companies, like us, who are VZW shops, they can't give us the features we want because VZW does not have any 6.1 devices.

That's why I feel good about there being an update... not because Verizon wants to give us one, but because of Microsoft wanting us to have one.

That's my hope anyway... Isn't the theme for this year hope? Hahaha.

Oh alright, thanks for clearing it up. That sounds positive, hopefully Microsoft could be persuasive enough then. But I appreciate the update.

Does Verizon make your short list?

I do not agree that Verizon does not owe us anything. Verizon owes us a plan for updates. Remember, we are not just talking about just a phone. We are talking about a “converged device” – with a real computer that we use for things totally unrelated to phone calls. Verizon and Samsung need to get their act together. A business studies the cost, benefit and risk associated with investing in their infrastructure. If a vendor cannot demonstrate that they have the willingness and capability to support their product they will lose out to those who do. As these devices get more complicated the likelihood of a serious problem going undetected through their quality control process increases. The Bluetooth reconnection problem is a case in point. Verizon and Samsung should be ashamed of themselves for ignoring/stonewalling on this defect. Those of you who work for VZW houses should raise this issue with your account representatives. Verizon is the supplier. We are the customers. We don’t owe Verizon anything.
