From Samsung (This is somewhat promising...)

Thank you for your inquiry. At the current time, we are in the process of testing, our phones with Windows 6.1 We are unable to speculate when or if this software revision might be available because this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion. Please feel free to check back with us periodically for updates.

How is that promising? Send them an email asking if Windows Mobile 17.5 will be released for this phone and I guarantee you get the exact same reply... word for word

The Q9c update is supposedly set for late July. I wonder how far apart they would generally release updates for different devices.. you know, for phone support reasons?

Or maybe they don't care.

If and when the update is finally avilable do you think it will just be with windows update or will we have to do something much more complicated than that to get it to work?

It will likely be a "normal" flash ROM type of upgrade, that will require running the flash utility and it will likely bring the phone down to the factory deafults. But shouldn't be hard. What i'm hoping for that this update will not only be a WM6.1 update, but will also include some patched, like for BT for example.

I'm hoping for a T9 patch!

I'm also looking forward to breaking down whatever ROM file they provide for some custom ROM action

There will be a 6.1 update for the i760 as well as the Q9C, and the international Samsung i770 will be 6.1 as will the Treo 800W, not to mention the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro.

Heck, we may be finally at a point were VZW has figured out to kick it in gear with devices... Or maybe it's wishful thinking on my part.

I just got off the phone with Verizon retentions asking about the i760 and WM6.1 The rep put me on hold to speak to t his data dept and came back and said WM6.1 will not be available for the i760. Hard to say if that means anything yet but time will tell!

Yep, that would be my guess.

No question about it...me and my 8 lines/phones would be gone in a heartbeat if AT&T had 3G coverage where I live/work.

Well I was in Verizon the other day to get my brother a new phone, and while there I asked the technical support lady if Windows Mobile 6.1 would be released for our phone, and she said "I don't know what that is, and the guy that would know doesn't work here anymore, but even if I knew I wouldn't be able to tell you in case the release date was pushed back".

So another tech support lady, that knows nothing.

fyi

I recently had to call verizon about a billing problem when I asked them about an update for the i760 ... the customer rep put me on hold to speak with his tech guy ... well 5 mins later he jumps on the phone to tell me that my software is in fact not the newest version ... july 2nd there was an update ... so he told me to go to my local store to get it flashed on ... the store of course had no idea what i was talking about ... so i called the customer rep back only to be put on hold for 45 mins ... after which he informed me that there is infact an update that came out ... problem is that neither the store or the website had it available for download and he had no idea why ...

so he said he would personally call or txt me as to when and where i can get the update when it becomes available
