Your password is vzw.
Finish the wizard. It should popup the connection box. Click connect. You're online
It will say something like you're connected at 921 kbps.
Enjoy.
Thursday, I talked with a VZW rep who claimed to be a PDA programs expert. he said that Verizon has changed their policies. "Unlimited" data is still 5GB, but now the license does not constrain the user from any usage. Stream Live TV all you want. If you go over 5GB, they bill you. (So they would be happy for you to stream live TV for weeks. )
I had not heard this before, but it spurred me to find a way to tether the i760. Reading through about 500 posts on several threads, I thought the method above was the shortest/cheapest/easiest to try. And, it could not have been easier! With a Vista notebook, it took just a few minutes to set up. My first web page was DSLReports who said the connection was 1063 Kb/sec down and 115 Kb/sec up. Not great, and not bad. Certainly pretty wonderful for 15 minutes and no money!
So now all I have to do is watch my data usage so as not to get blasted with data charges.
I'll say. PDA-Net is a great way to go. I'd purchase it if I had the extra cash (a littler over 2 weeks after I got the phone and it was too late to return, I lost my job and have been pinching pennies).
I downloaded it under the assumption that it was free. I installed it, and was expecting some long setup. It took about 30 seconds, installed on my computer, then phone, and bam, it was all set up. I don't use tethering for much. Just getting a better version of google-maps when traveling, checking news when out, or general browsing when waiting for someone.
I have not had a single problem.
I want to try WiFi Router before I purchase it. I'm not going to drop 20 Euros (especially with current exchange rates), to go through a troublesome installation that MIGHT not work based on all the problems I've been reading about, only to get frustrated and not want to use it. Ideally, WiFi Router seems like the best way to go, however, some people just seem to have good luck with it, and others don't; which is exactly why I'm waiting.

That's what I liked about Mark's solution. Nothing to buy. Download his Modem.zip, follow the instructions. It does require using a data cable, but the phone came with one, so still nothing to buy, especially if you just want to see if it will work.
the threads and info that refer to "ICS - Internet Connection Sharing", in the Wifi Router sticky thread... nab that ICS cab. That program is free and will allow you to tether via a data cable. I don't know why people are running all over the place looking for a way to do this. If I'm not mistaken, ICS is a Microsoft app. I have been using it for a while now and it works fantastically and didnt cost a cent.

So, once again, thanks Mark for the solution!!

No Problem.....enjoy!

VZW, It's 2009! Time to embrace technology, not suppress it. - oops too late I've moved on over to the iPhone w/ AT$T!
Using the USB Modem option, I found it was occasionally hard to get the connection going. I tried the obvious things (sprinkling chicken blood, dancing around a colorful hat, etc), but it was inconsistent.
So, I uninstalled all that, and downloaded PDANet. I had a couple issues getting PDANet to talk to the phone, but once it did, it connected immediately.
First stop: DSLReports. The speeds were one half to one third that of the USB Modem option. 354 Kbs down, 91 Kbs up.
Have others found PDANet to be that much slower than other options?
Of course it doesn't setup the phone as a wi-fi router, so it's only good to connect the phone itself to one PC via usb, but it's easy, quick, and works
Here's what I did to install it:
1. Install the USB Modem Driver software from Samsung to your computer
2. Place the ICSInstall.cab file on your i760 memory (not the storage card) and install to the device from there.
3. Do a Soft-Reset
To get it working:
1. Plug in your i760 to the computer via USB
(On your PC you should now have a new Local Area Connection in your Network Connections that uses the Windows Mobile-Based Device)
2. On your i760, open the IntShrUI application in the programs menu.
(Make sure the "PC Connection" option says "USB", and the "Network Connection" option says "Broadband Access")
3. Hit "Connect".
(The Active Sync should automatically disable itself, and after a few seconds the status on the IntShrUI program should change to "Check USB Cable Connection", and then eventually "Connected". You should also see the local area connection icon on your computers taskbar trying to connect and then connect.
I can confirm zerog6's ICS method is working on 6.1 (posting with it now), although it seems very slow, although I have no hard statistics. I'll try USBmodem method next.
Couldn't get USB Modem to Enable. Anyone else tried it yet? I have no idea where Mark_A_K got that, and I doubt his iPhone self is hanging around here anymore.

I can get USB Modem to Enable in WM6.1, but I can't get it work right. My laptop will give me errors like "can't get dial tone" and others.

I checked my connection with it on speedtest.net and I got over 900kbps download and over 100kbps upload, so for me it's working just as fast as any other method i've seen people try.

Disregard, I'm probably an idiot.
I couldn't get the USB modem tethering solution to work reliably but finally figured it out. If my phone was already connected for data services then the laptop would get a 'no dialtone' error and the connection would fail.
So I just have to remember to end the data connection on the phone before telling the laptop to dial-out.

Great, thanks. I may have just had a bad connection at the time. Good solution.

This method worked perfectly for me. My portable runs Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and all the drivers worked fine. The service at my house is not the greatest and I was still getting 350 down and 150 up.
I am having issues using the free ICS file method. No problems with PDAnet though. I want the free version as everyone reports faster speeds, if I have to buy PDANet i will, but the ICS.cab file way seams better.
I got it to connect once to my laptop for about 1min, than never again.
Laptop running Vista (Biz ed.) Phone on WM 6.0 (not upgraded yet)
thanks
