Thanks for all the info on this guys! Be careful with the "unlimited data plan" that Verizon has. My company sells Verizon and, don't quote me on this (I'm a bookkeeper, not sales), but I believe as of last week it is no longer unlimited data usage anymore when you tether on the $15 a month plan. It's 5 GB max.
When downloading any data on your phone you will still have unlimited, but through the phone to the laptop (or using the usb devices) its 5 GB. Granted that's pretty dang tough to go through in one month, but still, if you're a hardcore gamer or youtubing like crazy it's doable =)
And don't hate on Verizon, ya, they're expensive as hell, but you pay for what you get. You want to cry? Try Sprint. They have that $99 unlimited everything plan? I'll pay my $119 for less minutes and features with Verizon anyday.
Ok.....installed ICS. Start ICS on the phone, connect data cable to PC...nothing. PC (vista) has no Internet connection active. If I start IE on phone, it appears to be trying to obtain connection via PC. How do I reverse the flow (e.g. the PC looks for connectivity via the Phone)?
I tried setting this up while waiting at an airport without internet. I installed ICS, but it seems the only options are for USB or Bluetooth, neither of which would work. WIFI Router would start up but had nothing to connect to.
Does anyone have any specific instructions on setup?

I too would love this step by step explanation as I cannot get it to work either... I have a mac btw but if theres no computer Downloads it shouldn't make a difference

On my return trip I was successful in getting this to work, and it worked great! The first try I think what i did wrong was to startup ICS first. On my trip back I only launched WMWIFIRouter, it ran through configurations, one of which was ICS and at the end when it launched it connected. Perhaps after installing the cab files, reboot the phone and launch the router. I think I also turned on my wireless first also.
Anyways, my laptop could see the wmwifirouter, I connected to it and had internet connection that was pretty good. A call came in while I was connected, I answered the call and my internet disconnected. I was able to just reconnect and continue working after the call.
Why get the real version if this is working for you?
Right now it's beta. They're in the process of fixing bugs, improving the product and bringing it to market and support it. Theoretically one could stay with an earlier beta version. As long as they're reasonable with price I'll probably support it.
For any users still trying to tether, Here are the steps required after installing ICSharing
1) Attach USB data cable and Open Active Sync.
2) Double click on your device.
3) Select Connection Setting and Uncheck “Allow USB Connections”.
4) Start the IntshrUI program (I think the default are correct in the drop downs ..e.g. pcconnection, broadband)
5) Tap Connect (Allow up to 30 seconds..you should see your phone dial the broadband number).
6) Watch you PC….in Vista it presented a dialog to name and classify the new found network.
7) Select the new network and you are on the internet.
Remember after your session to go back and check allow USB connection for sync to work again
I tried your steps but I can only get a local connection in Vista. It doesn't let me get on the internet.
When you say Open activesync do you mean on the phone since activesync isn't in Vista?
I am also trying Bluetooth but I can't even get a local connection there.
Thanks for any help.
Josh

USB tethering works fine, but AFAIK nobody's gotten it to work over Bluetooth. It's a crying shame -- means the alternatives are, use WMWifiRouter and let anybody and their dog connect to the Internet through your phone as access point (yeah, you can use WEP encryption, but that can be cracked in 10 minutes flat) or be tied down to a cord. (Or pay Verizon $15/mo on top of the usurious rates they already charge, in which case BT will work fine.)
i730 -- we could tether through BT, but it was BT1.1 so it was slow. We finally get BT2 and now we can't tether through BT.
The day somebody gets WPA working with WMWifiRouter, or much better, gets Bluetooth tethering working (less battery drain), I'll be a very happy camper.

I use PDANet over Bluetooth and it works fine. When connected through PDAnet, I can access the internet, Mymobiler works and Activesync works. ...and no additional monthly Verizon fees for tethering. I've been doing it for 3 years (2 1/2 with i730 and 6 months with i760) and no problems. I only use PDANet when I have a real need...maybe a couple of hours a month.

HUH? Did you read the first page of this post? I downloaded that little file and connect via bluetooth with no problem.

Yes, PDANet works fine. I was referring to tethering without paying anything in addition. If I didn't make that clear, my apologies.

Yes. I've been using BTModem since I had my i730. And if I use it on my i760, I can connect just fine -- and the first thing I get when I try to browse is Verizon's web page telling me that I can use their BroadbandAccess feature for a mere $15 a month. No, thanks. I never got that when using it on my i730 -- I could just connect and use the Internet. The fact that it does that on my i760 makes it basically worthless -- after all, you can just change the phone mode in Settings to "modem via Bluetooth" and it does the same thing. BTModem is unnecessary.

Can you elaborate? On my phone when I do settings->system->Data Connection, and pick 'modem via Bluetooth', I get a popup box that says 'enable Bluetooth DUN', and I cannot get the connection to work from my laptop or my tomtom GPS. When I use BTModem, it works, but it's a pain to fire it up each time I need it. Is there something I need to install? Thanks!
Just my opinion, but I don't think so, no. Like I said earlier:

That's interesting. I didn't run into that. I switched to "modem via Bluetooth," and then tried to pair it from my laptop -- my laptop saw the Dial-Up Networking service on my phone, I connected to it, and it worked fine. (Except for the automatic redirection to Verizon's page wanting to charge me $15/mo, of course.)
BTModem did much the same thing. I actually confused myself a bit because the first time I tried it, I'd forgotten to switch back from "modem via Bluetooth" back to the regular phone setting, and when I tried to pair I saw *two* Dial-Up Networking services on my phone. "Huh?"
hello,
i have the last free release of wmwifirouter with the ics cab files zipped together on my server. it works great. i was going to post the link for anyone to just go download it with no strings attached but i wanted to make sure i wasnt stepping on anybody's toes before doing so. just hoped to give back for all the help you guys have given me in resolving my issue. we're preparing to head to disney land (driving) and i wanted the kids to be able to access the internet on their laptops while travelling. the wmwifirouter is the perfect solution.
....any idea what i stand to gain (other than showing my support for the owner) by upgrading to the commercial version when what i have is working wonderfully?
Isn't theversion you have a trial version? It should expire at a specified date.
I bought it, it's worth it. This coming from an IT Pro, who rarely buys any software....
Hope your kids won't be Youtubing and MySpacing all the way there... you'll probably find your provider has cut off your phone by the time you get home
