Red face Wifirouter on i760??

Hello all, just wondering if anyone has gotten wmwifirouter to succesfuly work with I760 using ics,Is it even a possibility for these verizon phones or is it a program that we wont be able to use due to verizon not allowing ICS on these phones? Thanks in advance....sorry for the newbee questions...

MRAILING EDIT: Although there is another way listed below found and instructed by Alanb and tburke (thanks guys), there is an easier way to install and use, I documented this in post #26:

http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/705138-post26.html

I believe ICS has been removed from the build of wm6 on the i760. There's a thread discussion this very topic somewhere..

Check out this faq: Internet Sharing over WiFi - WMWifiRouter v0.89 (Jan 7, 200 - xda-developers
You can install the files manually using a cab and an exe.

Then you can install WMWifiRouter. I'm using v.89 and it works fine. In fact, I'm posting with it now. Any questions please let me know.

Sweet, finally someone who got it to work.

I played with it a bit and no luck. You don't have the teathering plan do you?

I'll try the latest and see what happens.

thanks,

TBURKE im still not having any luck here can you please help me, I installed the cab and exe. files on my phone and ran them according to the sites instructions, I also downloaded WMWifiRouter v0.89, but when I run wmwifirouter program it shows that it connects successfully to wmwifirouter ad-hoc, but when I look under my wireless manager it shows that its connecting to wmwifirouter but never connects successfully.I also noticed that when I connect the i760 to my pc via usb and run ICS it comes up as connected but under network connections on my pc it still shows no active connection, any ideas on why its not working since it seems like I have everything I need to make it to work?

tburke,

Without reading through all 173 posts to see if there was a resolution... The FAQ post indicates that no one has been able to get ICS installed on a device that doesn't come with it (like our i760's), but there is a file linked for people to try. Did that file work for you, or did you find another way to install ICS? (or did WMWifiRouter just work for you without installing ICS???).

Thanks,

Alan

Still no luck here. Installed ICS as documented, installed WMWifiRouter also. It runs, sets up a data connection, sets up the wifi, my laptop connects to the i760's wifi & gets an IP address via DHCP, but I don't get any network access. I can ping the 760 (192.168.0.1) but that's it.

Tburke, you seem have travelled to places not seen by mortal i760 users.

When you get a chance, if you could outline what you did, or point to the directions that eventually worked, it would be much appreciated.

I've read that (long and conflicting) thread, tried many of the ideas and files presented there, and I'm unable to connect.

I still fantasize about using the iPod Touch web browser through WiFi and Verizon's network..

OK, let me see if I can remember everything that I have done. (Bear with with my please)

1) Soft-Reset my i760
2) Installed the ICSInstall.zip from this thread: Internet Sharing over WiFi - WMWifiRouter v0.89 (Jan 7, 200 - xda-developers
and did the following (note, not all of the steps!)

Download the attached ZIP file
- Extract it somewhere on your computer
- Copy the CAB, EXE and BIN file to your mobile device
- Install the CAB (just run it)
- Run ICSInstall.exe
- Click "Patch"
- Wait 'til it says "Done"
- Close the program
- Soft-reset

3)Installed WMWifiRouter from here:WMWifiRouter v0.89 (Jan 7, 200
I used the CAB version with the network settings, and downloaded it straight to my device. Before installing I soft-reset after the ICS install, and then turned Wifi ON. I then proceded with the install, and then Soft-Reset again.

Hmm.... Did exactly the same (although you say "note: not all steps" and I did all of the steps).

I can connect to the phone, ping it, but I can't see anything past it.

OK, I have it figured out..

This link xda-developers - View Single Post - Internet Sharing over WiFi - WMWifiRouter v0.89 (Jan 7, 200 has a different version if getting ICS installed. Rather then having an installer, it has manual edits for the registry.

I compared the settings to the settings done from the installer linked above, and I noticed a few missing items.

I added them, and then tried to use ICS (via USB cable). It started to work, but kept connecting and disconnecting every few seconds.

I recalled that somewhere in the XDA thread it was mentioned that you can't do data on the phone at the same time. I turned off Wireless Sync and the connection stayed up. I was then able to succesfully use WMWiFiRouter and am posting using it now.

The specific missing registry items are:

HKLM\Comm\Tcpip\Parms\IpInitializeRouter 00000001 REG_DWORD

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSINTERNET_SHARING\3 00000000 REG_DWORD

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSINTERNET_SHARING\2 00000001 REG_DWORD

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSINTERNET_SHARING\1 IntShrUI.exe REG_SZ

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSINTERNET_SHARING\0 MSINTERNET_SHARING REG_SZ

Also, one of these two had the wrong value (can't remember which one now)

HKLM\Comm\ConnectionSharing\PublicInterface 1 REG_SZ

HKLM\Comm\ConnectionSharing\PrivateInterface 0 REG_SZ

Couple of problems. I can live with them, but others should be aware.

After a soft reset, I need to run WMWiFiRouter twice before I can succesfully connect.

After running it, the wireless manager no longer shows WiFi.

After a soft reset the WiFi settings come back but if WiFi is turned on, the only connection is the WMWiFiRouter connection is the only one in the list. If I add a new one, it will connect, but then instantly disconnects and WMWiFirouter connection shows attmepting to connect.

If I disable it though, and go back to the WMWiFiRouter application, it connects to my new wifi connection instead of setting up the ad-hoc.

Basically, if you use this, you can't use WiFi from your phone for anything else.

I hardly ever use WiFi on it, so doesn't bother me now.

To use wifi after using WMWifiRouter soft-reset the device, and go to the wireless manager -> wireless settings -> network adapters -> samsung b/g wireless card -> use server assigned IP address

OK, after installing the internet connection sharing package and adding this to the registry:
HKLM\Comm\Tcpip\Parms\IpInitializeRouter 00000001 REG_DWORD

I can now tether with USB. Can't seem to get bluetooth to work, but USB tethering works.

I installed the wmwifi app and still not much luck. But what's odd now is that I can't consistently ping the phone anymore from my laptop. before even tho I couldn't get out on the network I could ping the phone, now only a few pings go by then stops.

I've also done a hard-reset on the phone to make sure I started from scratch. Will keep playing. At least tethering with ICS works, that's a huge plus.

Tried that... I get a DHCP address but pinging just stops.. sometimes it'll return one, two pings... sometimes one and then a couple of timeouts then another. Odd.

Can't play with it much for the next couple hours, will poke around more when I get home.
