This was just one of the many issues I had trying to run this. If it matters, the computers trying to connect were running Windows XP Pro. I gave up on WiFiRouter, and bought PDAnet last night.
I got this to work first on my itouch wifi and then finally on my macbook pro thru bluetooth, speed is terrible, I will try a usb connection. It is certainly not as easy as using pda net with windows that's for sure.
My Mac is dual booted I wil also try pda net under windows and see if that works. I won't use it all that much but sonce switching to mac in the last 2 weeks I want to know what my options are.
If any of ya'll out there have any tips on using a Mac with the 760 PLEASE let me know!
thanks

I started with a Psion Organizer in 1987!
Download the attached ZIP file
- Extract it somewhere on your computer
- Copy the CAB, EXE and BIN file to your mobile device
- Install the CAB (just run it)
- Run ICSInstall.exe
- Click "Patch"
- Wait 'til it says "Done"
- Close the program
- Soft-reset
3)Installed WMWifiRouter from here:WMWifiRouter v0.89 (Jan 7, 200
I used the CAB version with the network settings, and downloaded it straight to my device. Before installing I soft-reset after the ICS install, and then turned Wifi ON. I then proceded with the install, and then Soft-Reset again.
Where is the option to click 'Patch' in ICS? All I see is

I have everything downloaded and running, but when I try to connect to the wmwifirouter network on my computer, it can't connect. . . it just keeps trying and trying and trying with no luck. Any ideas?

Andy, your description seems way to complex. You've got files I did not use and are doing patching and configuring that I did not have to do.
I have attached the two cab files I used for convenience. Its basically a straightforward install with very little fuss, as follows:
Change the extension of the files from .txt to .cab (I changed them for the upload process), and copy to your phone.
Install the cab files to your phone. Reset (part of any program installation procedure)
Run ICS from the phone then reset (this may not be required, but I did it).
Start the application by running Wifi router on the phone. It loads up ICS and starts the Wifi radio, etc. The first time you run it, set the DHCP as mentioned below.
That's it. There are no patches, hacks, extra files, etc. Just these two files. Install, run, it works.
Or at least it worked for me. Or maybe I have forgotten a crucial but tiny detail...
Good luck!
David
Thanks vrtualdavid!!
Now that this is up and running, any thoughts on mesh networking? Using batman perhaps?
NOTE: May not be related but I've tested Mocha FTP Server (turns your phone into an FTP server with access via your IP) and it works like a charm. Its freeware now.

I have noticed a similar problem. My PC was set up to access an infrastructure network. My version of wmwifirouter provides an ad hoc network only. Once I told my PC about this, everything started working.
I was playing around with this today. It works fine (used virtualdavid's tut).
However, using this setup eats up my battery charge like crazy.
My question is, why would I ever need to use my i760 as a wifi router? This means I'm running both my Wifi antenna and my CDMA for networking. Wifi alone can kill half a battery charge in 30 minutes with alot of surfing. Why not just teather with usb? (I don't care if verizon gets pissed)
Just wondering.

How are you tethering with a USB cable?
Wifirouter allows others to access the internet.
You are still tethering.

I just use the USB cable that came with the i760 (has that propriatery jack for the phone). Its just always started DUN on its own. In fact, I had to disable that network connection so it would stop bugging me. This may be a leftover hack on my windows machine from my MotoQ days.
As for sharing net access via my i760, none of the people I hang with even know what wifi is much less know how to work it. When I start explaining stuff, I get blank stares and "Dude, that's too complicated". They're good peeps to have on your side in a fight, but not the sharpest knives in the morgue.
Anyway, its the battery life that I would rather save versus sharing net access. This is my only phone, so if I lose all battery and have no outlet near by, I can't talk to my mom when she's all pissed about people not loving Jesus enough.... On second though, f#ck the battery.

Step 5: Load WMWifirouter from Activesync (need USB/Bluetooth Activesynch connection)
Step 6: Soft reset
Step 7: Simply launch the WMWifirouter app and watch it use your "Broadband Access" connection on the I760
Step 8: Once all launched and connected, go to PC and look for SSID "WMWifirouter"- remember to tell your wireless card to look for Ad-Hoc connections
Once connected to wireless network, you should receive IP and be able to surf. Keep an eye on the phone to make sure it stays connected. If it loses connection, I just "recover from crash" and it resets itself.
I will use it in class and I sit next to the wall in some classes so I plug it in and let it charge while I let my friends with iphone's and itouch's have at it.
People love it because it has decent speed and no sites are blocked.
Does any one know how to configure WifiRouter to work with VISTA,my laptop detects the wmwifirouter network and I try to connect but does not connect for some reason. It connects fine on my pc running windows xp...

I have heard that setting Vista to use a static IP address rather then DHCP works. Sorry I can't provide instructions... Still running XP myself.
