The author has asked explicitly that it not be posted anywhere. Apparently he is dealing with a legal issue, but is continuing the Beta with those who already have the software and is planning on releasing it when the legal issue is resolved.
wmwifirouter works for xp and not vista for some reason... I am thinking about changing the connection manager from vista to something else and see what that does. Its a bummer I got a new laptop and only use the internet for about 30min before it craps out on me

I have the same problem with my new Vista notebook computer.
What do you mean by changing the connection manager from vista to something else?
It is trial so no tech support.
Please let me know if anybody has some suggestions.
Thank you.
chainfire is the developer of this client and he does indeed have support for the app. im beta testing the app and ill check to see if others on the beta have vista issues and ill report back...
Never mind... Connection manager didn't work. But I am now able to connect w/o reseting wmwifirouter everytime...
I changed the ipv4 settings to:
ipv4 ip address 192.168.0.9
ipv4 subnet mask 255.255.255.0
ipv4 gateway 192.168.0.1
ipv4 dns server 192.168.0.1
It seems to run a lil better too, try it and see if it works for you. Oh and make sure the ip address is set within your ip block
I have noticed several posts about running ICS after the initial CAB installs. Has anyone stated how to actually run the ICS program? I do not see any entries in my programs listing for ICS. Details anyone?
Apparently, Verizon forced Samsung to remove ICS (aka "Internet Sharing") from their build. It simply doesn't exist in our phone, so we have to add it back in by getting it from build that didn't strip it from the WM AKU.
There was a CAB file to install it, but it's not located in the thread any more. Anyone know where a reliable ICS installer can be found?
I am looking for a way to tether my i760 and get data access thru my laptop, I searched and was ready to try to make this wifi setup work but after reading the link that mrailing posted ... it looks like this is a nolonger a working solution.
I am leaving monday for 2 weeks without internet access, I guess I will be calling Verizon for their 15 a month solution.
Any updates or advice on this wifi setup would be greatly appreciated.
Andy, your description seems way to complex. You've got files I did not use and are doing patching and configuring that I did not have to do.
I have attached the two cab files I used for convenience. Its basically a straightforward install with very little fuss, as follows:
Change the extension of the files from .txt to .cab (I changed them for the upload process), and copy to your phone.
Install the cab files to your phone. Reset (part of any program installation procedure)
Run ICS from the phone then reset (this may not be required, but I did it).
Start the application by running Wifi router on the phone. It loads up ICS and starts the Wifi radio, etc. The first time you run it, set the DHCP as mentioned below.
That's it. There are no patches, hacks, extra files, etc. Just these two files. Install, run, it works.
Or at least it worked for me. Or maybe I have forgotten a crucial but tiny detail...
Good luck!
David
Thanks VirtualDavid! This is really sweet. I was even able to get the WEP 64 security hooked up. I believe the "192.168.1.X" option helps. I also used the DHCP allocator and an XP Pro Laptop.

Went to download the WIFI rounter piece and found that as of end of Jan, it's become a commercial application. Download is labeled "Trail". Couldn't find a price. Anyone know how much they plan to charge for the consumer version?
My Vista Notebook works fine with this (Just got it to work actually). Only problem I noticed was that the ad-hoc connection wasn't connecting by itself on my notebook. I had to go in and manually add an ad-hoc connection in the wizard. I named it "WMWifiRouter" just like it says on the screen. Once I did that, I hit connect on the laptop (it says it's waiting for connections or some such). then went to my i760 -> Settings -> COnnections ->Wifi -> select WMWifiRouter (after the WMWifiRouter software is already running) and hit connect at the bottom left. Yeah, it's a pain, but it connected and worked great. And FWIW, I am using the trial as well.
chainfire, the developer, has stopped sharing the app due to legal issues. he may be working on stronger security but right now i think all you can do is the lowest (64 bit). you dont really need to use security anyway since this connections bandwidth is not large enough for sniffers to log on to it.. but to each his own..
as to the user who says this is bug ware, i ask what version are you using? im using v.81 (its up to v.91 now) and its rock solid on the mogul... if you are using security i would suggest you keep security off until you get good results and confirm it works then use security...
v.91 is the version I have that won't uninstall or work w/out or with encryption
I just loaded this program using Mrailings simple instructions. It works great! Amazing!
One question I have is that it seems to be always on, or at least when i760 is plugged in. After I have used it and shut the program down, closed, not minimized, it goes through its steps and even shuts off the wifi but then from my laptop I can do a scan and it finds the wmwifirouter.
I unplugged my i760 and went out and ran some errands and when I got back I checked again and this time the laptop did not find the wmwifirouter, but then I plugged the phone into AC power, did nothing else, wifi still shows as being off, and then the laptop finds it again. It can't connect to the internet but does find the router.
At this point if I run the program everything works fine.
Does anyone know if this is expected operation or is anyone else is experiencing this?
edit: Actually, it is not related to whether or not the i760 is plugged in. Even when the phone is shut down I was getting this so maybe it is a problem in the laptop. Weird.
