Odd, I think nate accidentally made a .rar file, but named it .zip. Change the extension and it should open fine.

If you need a free utility to open .rar files, I recommend 7 Zip.

I have the same problem. Were you able to get it working?

It seems to work fine from my touch, but when I attempt to connect multiple devices to the network i get intermittant connectivity. after a a few seconds or a minute it drops, but my touch is rock solid.

Even trying to connect another touch at the office doesnt seem to work for long. I have tried changing wep, turning wep off, turning on and off the DHCP allocator.

Going to try a different IP range etc tonight. Any input would be appreciated.

EDIT:

Fixed, once I changed the range from 192.168.0.x to 192.168.1.x other devices connected just fine. I had two laptops and a ipod touch connected at the same time. Very nice piece of software. fyi: DHCP allocator off.

It appears that adhoc connections prefer the .1 range. That's interesting.

I can get my laptop to see the WMwifirouter network, and successfully connect to it, however, I can't access anything on the net. I notice I am unable to ping the default gateway from the laptop. Any ideas?

I started out with this.

Make sure you are running the new ICS program. try the DHCP allocator off and then on.

Try changing the ip range from the default 192.168.0.x to 1.x or 2.x

Also i found that occasionally I have to run the crash cleanup to sort everything out.

Try the ICS install here:

ive been wit the app since v.01 and now using .81 which was the first atable version. later versions have given others some issues and now since he has some sort of legal thing going on, he has stopped the Downloads and such. i would use the version that does not setup the connection for you, just do it alal manually and you will be ok. if you have some weird 169.254.... something or other address then you are not getting a valid ip form the program. try not using any security and then after you are succesful and you may try it then. i have had my laptop and ipod touch connected on the same connection sans security and all is well.

Unfortunately add me to the list of not working as well. I have the same problem as listed above. I setup everything as in the instructions and my laptop connects easily without problems but when I go to access the internet... nothing. Interestingly enough I can ping the phone and it works just nothing else.

EDIT: 02/06/2008
I took the plunge, hard reset my phone and installed per Allanc post (see below) with the registry edits and greatfully it works great now. Thanks Allanc and all.

There is hope. I was going to hard reset my phone anyway yesterday, so I figured I'd try a bunch of new apps I'd been wanting and see which ones work well.

I loaded the ICS and WiFi Router and at first I couldn't get my laptop to connect to the phone. I finally turned WiFi off on the phone and setup the ad-hoc network on the laptop. Started WiFi Router again and the laptop connected and everything worked. I was surfing the web. I tried stopping and starting WiFi Router a few times and everything was good.

When I was done testing apps, I hard reset the phone again, loading everything up, and installed these two again somewhere near the end. Now I can't get it to work. Sometimes the laptop won't even connect to the phone, other times it connects but can't reach the internet.

I'll be watching this thread, and if I find any tricks to making it work I'll be sure to post back here.

I also had it crash out on me and had trouble getting it reconnected. I hard reset and reinstalled, including the new ICSinstall.cab and it works perfectly now.

Seems my connection gets setup fine, acquiring a 192.168.1.x address. When I try and ping the default gateway from the laptop, I get about 1 successful packet, and the rest times out. Not sure what is dropping.

In the readme.txt file you indicated "I have made a reg file containing these entries as well."

Did I miss it or was that not included in the .zip?
I am unfortunately not familiar with adding keys...strings...or knowing which it should be....
Any suggestions on adding the registry edits or in pointing me to the reg edits already created in a file to be imported?

Also, didn't i read somewhere that with a later version the reg edits weren't necessary?

Lastly i know programmers will roll their eyes at my lack of knowledge and tell me not to mess with the registry, but it's ok, i'll hard reset if i need to, just NEED this to work & am willing to bear the risk.

Thanks in advance.

I set this up, just using the ICS and Wifi router (from the zip file) -- no registry edits. It worked great!

Totally awesome, thanks!

Anyone get any better security setup though? Currently I have the WEP setup but only with a 64 bit (aka 40 bit) key setup. Anyone have any luck getting a stronger key setup?

Hmm no luck here...I think literally this is the only hack over the years I haven't ben able to jimmy to get working.

My phone is almost clean after hard reset this week & no luck, cant even get it to uninstall!

Messes up future wifi use also. Seems bugware to me though I'm happy others seem pleased & have it working. I've stayed away from pdanet for years...however have had 2 go that route unfortunately.

chainfire, the developer, has stopped sharing the app due to legal issues. he may be working on stronger security but right now i think all you can do is the lowest (64 bit). you dont really need to use security anyway since this connections bandwidth is not large enough for sniffers to log on to it.. but to each his own..

as to the user who says this is bug ware, i ask what version are you using? im using v.81 (its up to v.91 now) and its rock solid on the mogul... if you are using security i would suggest you keep security off until you get good results and confirm it works then use security...

5 Gig in a month is the limit. You will quickly hit this using Slingbox. This should be used for occasional use when traveling, not as the primary ISP for home use.
