CF03 = GPS 'weak signal' no go w/google maps...advice?

CF03 upgrade went w/o an apparent hitch (maybe an unseen glitch is causing this issue). using WM6.1.

However, gps will not find sats for google maps. i get an error 'weak signal or not finding sats'.

gps is 'on'. i have tries both usb-pc @ on and off settings - no luck.

i am on com 0 w/4800b - managed by windows.

have not tried bing.

have a holux that i have not connected yet.

would rather use the omnia gps if it works.

do i need to reload CF03?

any setting suggestions?

do i need 6.5?

i have searched this forum to no avail...

please help.

I have it working. The google maps GPS setting i have is 'Managed by Windows'.

I have found it only works when I am outside or in a car, and it takes a few minutes for it to find the sats. Once it has found them I can go indoors and it continues to work, but not on the initial find.

thx for the response.

google maps tells me the locator is 'within 1900 (or 2100 or 2900) feet of a point on the map. not very helpful in any situation.

Anyone else have any ideas?

do i need to reload CF03>

Does anyone have an Omnia that had gps quickly pick up sats?

i read a thread with a similar issue regarding 'w/in 1900 feet of position'. they had a solution and now i cannot find the post...it may have been another forum.

Did you do Phone->Menu->Options->Services tab->GPS->tap Change Settings, check "Location On" (instead of "911 Only").

I also have the vague recollection that your Phone has to be on to use the Omnia GPS.

You also have to be outside with a clear view of the southern sky. May take several minutes to get your first fix. A soft reset to clear your memory might help, too. (I have MemMaid and my usual routine when things are not going smoothly on my phone is to "clean" my main memory using MemMaid, then there is a Soft Reset option on the Tools menu).

I had moderate success with 3rd party software, but when I upgraded to BW Night 1.4 MS3, these were no longer needed. He has a program installed on the Today screen that has 'never' failed me! Sometimes takes 3 minutes, but if left on the dash while on the road, it will grab up to 6 satellites! Don't need to reinstall C03, and the build is rock-solid! (Been using 2 months+)

If mine takes a long time to find GPS and tells me it is unable to find satellites, I restart the phone. After restart Google maps will find the satellites.

I 'still' have to do this on occasion, but not nearly as often. I'm sure newer phones won't have this problem, it's the price of being cutting edge. No matter what the phone, the older technologies will be better than the previous phone, then they will throw something new in we want, and it will be buggy. Of course we could all go back to a nice stable flip phone!

thx for all the ideas.

i think the on/off thought is good.

i also need to make sure there are not a ton of programs running in the background.

the new task manager touch availability is a nice feature.

have any of you used some of the 6.5 upgrades from 3rd party sources? I think adrenaline has one.

i've also read that it disables voice commands...that would be a fatal flaw for me.

As stated, I use Blazing Wolf's Night 1.4 with Spb Mobile shell version. Adds much functionality, even helps with GPS. However, his also breaks VC. I purchased this for my i730 some time ago and just install over the flashed ROM, this works great for me.
