Can anyone help me with how to set up Push Email with a Microsoft Exchange Server? I have done several searches on this site and google searches, but have not been able to find out how to do it. The things that I am finding indicate that it is possible, though.
I want to push my work email to my Omnia i910. I tried going to ActiveSync on the phone and going to configure server. I entered my email address and tried both checking and unchecking the "attempt to detect Exchange Server Settings automatically". It then asked for the Server Address. I typed the address that I use to access the Microsoft Exchange Server remotely in this box. I also tried checking and unchecking the "This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection. On the next page I typed in my user name that I use when I access the Microsoft Exchange Server remotely. I also put in my password. I used the domain that I use when I access remotely. On the next page I checked to synchronize email and then clicked finish.
When I did all of this, it tries to connect but I get an attention required notification. When I click on this I get the following message: "The configuration on your Exchange server prevents you from synchronizing. Please contact your Exchange Administrator.
Have I done something wrong or do I need some type of different password from my work IT department?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Jon
I hate to leave you hanging looking for an answer. I'm hoping someone "IT knowledgeable" comes along. In the meantime, all I can offer is advice NOT to overthink it.
The first time I set up my exchange server, I just pointed it at the webmal client I used in a browser: webmail.xxx.com. I put in my same email address and password an it did the rest.
I'm now using System Seven but it's the same: webmail domain name, id and password. No more. No less. No fuss. No muss.
Sounds like ActiveSync is NOT enabled on your Exchange Server. Ask your IT department if it is enabled. If not, hopefully you can convince them to enable it.
If your organization has more than one Exchange server, you might want to ask some other folks what server they are using. Recently, 3 of 4 people in our group lost our handheld Exchange server functionality. When I checked with the 4th person as to why everything was still cool with him, he was using a different Exchange server address. The rest of us all switched to that and got back in business immediately. With our IT, it's "bring you device to our HELP DESK and we'll take a look at it....." Meanwhile..
When I set up my exchange mail account I simple opened up 'Messaging' then 'Setup E-mail'. I just put in my email address and password. The phone did all the rest by attempting to connect and sync with the server. If your companies exchange server is set up to accept active sync connections, then you should have no problems.
you might need the SSL certificate if that's what your company uses. Your IT dept should be able to provide this to you. I just use the webmail address, intalled the SSL cert, and put in username/password.
ActiveSync Exchange is not something that is just available if your company is on exchange. It would be something they knowningly configured as it usually requires specific firewall changes as well as a reverse proxy server to get traffic to your front end exchange servers... It could be they don't allow it. Or they could be using something like MS's System Center Mobile Device Manager, or something like Good Mobile Messaging.
Do you know folks with WinMo devices that are working? See how they are configured, otherwise give IT a call.
I have this working on My Omnia i910 but you have to make certain that the Exchange server is configured for Push Email (Available with Exchange 2003 and higher) and the appropriate Firewall ports are open to allow push email to work. When I set it up on my omnia I didn't have it connected my workstation to receive the certificate. The Exchange server pushes the certificate to my omnia based on my AD authentication.
I started getting the following message when trying to sync after my mailbox was moved from an Exchange 2007 box to an Exchange 2003 box:

Apparently some of the settings had gotten disabled during this process. I was able to fix it by going into Active Directory Users and Computers on the Exchange 2003 server. Double-click the user name and select Exchange features. Make sure all of the Mobile Services are enabled. If there are multiple domain controllers in the environment, you will have to wait for the settings to replicate or you can force the replication from Active Directory Sites and Services.
