Saga to Omnia i910

Folks,

I have a Saga that has been replaced 4 times now. I live in a 'marginal' signal area in central NJ (best is 2 bars in my house). Since the OS update, my signal strength fluctuates on a minute-by-minute basis from 0 to 2, and frequently cannot make or receive calls. I am about to call VZW again, and expect them to offer me an Omnia as replacement. I have had every other WinMo phone in the inventory, and the Saga was far and away the best form factor for me since the Treo, but the signal post-update just sucks. I can open google maps and see it jumping between 2 towers every 30 seconds.

So, my question is: with my contract up later this month, and no firm date for the Omnia 2, is the i910 a reliable, usable device for a heavy user? I am not really concerned about the multimedia stuff, just the messaging, contacts, calendar, and phone. Having been used to a physical keyboard, I am worried about the speed of the onscreen. I have the same concern regarding the iPhone.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

you sound like a candidate for a blackberry. i myself have never been able to get use to an onscreen keyboard and find it noticeably slower than a physical keyboard such as my i760 which i still use and am very happy with except that is not revision A. an issue i am having lately with the omnia is that i cannot always access the keyboard while on a call. last week the issue was that voice command would not give feedback when making a call. and so on. so i find myself using my other phones, the i760 and an lg chocolate instead of the omnia which i leave on my desk except to play with it when i am bored. now that the omnia 2 is coming out shortly, the reviews usually mention the omnia 910 as a problem phone that they hope the omnia 2 will resolve. so i am looking at both the blackberry tour or the omnia 2 to solve my woes. only one person i know likes his omnia though i am pretty sure he is mentally impaired anyways. everyone else wishes they never got it. most every one else i work with have 6800 phones or htc pro and love them.

BB would be perfect except that my company does not run a BES.

Only people I know who do not like their Omnia are people who know nothing about Cooked Roms. 7 of my buddies have Omnias and they all love them. Before Blazingwolfs Cooked Roms though it was another story.

I also have the i760 and I admit it took some time (two weeks) getting used to onscreen keyboards. Now I can type more accurate and faster using spb keyboard on the Omnia then my i760. My fingers are average but I notice people with very fat hands still have problems with the Omnia.

Form factor wise, the i760 and 6800 is like carrying around a brick in your pocket compared to the Omnia.

I live in Westwood Ca so I get full bars like I always have with any phone I have owned.

Strange you only know one person who likes their Omnia. Maybe you need to get out more or check your own mental capacity.

Get a phone you can be happy with

I was thinking cygone's friends aren't the same people voting in this poll:

http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/samsu...-all-hype.html

But then there is quite a bit of self-selection in people who come to pdaPhoneHome. People who like their Omnia a lot probably are the people who go to the trouble of finding this forum and signing up/signing on. People who are seriously unhappy probably return the phone in short order and get something else they can be happy with, rather than being masochistic and keeping it.
