A while since I posted....2nd week with Omnia report.

Hi all. It's been a little while since I posted here last. I spent a bunch of time on here when I first got my i760, this place helped me make that decision and make the best out of that piece of hardware. I know people hated on it, and sometimes the lockups did get aggravating, but overall I liked the 760.

Fast forward to today, I came back here to learn more about the Omnia when my upgrade was about a month off. I knew I wanted the phone regardless, but the reviews here helped me solidify that decision. Some "best phone ever" threads were helpful.

Now that I've had the phone a week, I have to agree that this is my favorite phone ever. Ever ever. It took me some time to warm up to the 760 from my Treo 650, but eventually winmo won me over. After the 6.1 upgrade to get threaded text working, I was sold on winmo forever. This phone however had me at hello. From the minute I started to get acquainted with it, I was hooked. I took the first 3 days bone stock to see what was what, and now I've upgraded to the CF03 release from VZW.

I confess a big part of wanting this phone was the 5.0 mp camera. I found myself using my phone so much for video and pics of my 2 kids that the 1.3 on the 760 was just really really not cutting it. I do use my phone for business mostly, but the camera thing was a big issue.

I am having some of the same issues everyone seems to have, like Weatherbug being temperamental, some finger/stylus issues with certain features, and lack of menu customization. Needing 4 menus to get to your text messages is kind of ridiculous.

On the horizon is probably Mobile Shell 3, it seems to be generally well liked and I haven't really seen any real complaints with it. I think that will give me the menus I'm looking for. I'd like to mess with some of cooked ROMS, but not sure I want to go there yet. I need to ask some more questions and get some current info. Lots of what is here is months old, there are only a few current threads, so I'm not sure what's what right now. Like the current status of winmo 6.5, Omnia II release, and maybe some other stuff IM not remembering right now.

Sorry for the wall of text, see you guys around. Keep an eye out for some of my questions.

How's your signal? - and battery life

Glad you like the phone. So you're fine with the signal reception? Seems to be one of the things that people complain most about (and the battery life) if they're having a problem with the phone.

Hey Jim,
How did I know you'd be first to post.

Reception for me has been fine. I live in South Jersey and it's a pretty solid VZW network where I am. I have been around the state a little an no problems with reception so far. I definitely prefer to use the BT rather than hold the phone to my ear as well, it seems quieter when I hold it up.

Battery life on all these phones really suck. The more they do, the worse the battery is. But since I kind of have accepted this already, I just bring my car charger and plug it in when I drive. Since I'm probably talking in the car anyway. If I was to just leave in the morning with a full charge, it would never make it all day, but then neither did my 760. That said this battery could be better.

I keep an extra battery in my pocket at all times. I store it in a small zip lock baggy (almost same size of battery) reinforced with clear packaging tape.

If you do this make sure you store it in something just in case it grounds on metal in your pocket.

I use Blazingwolfs 6.5 1.3 MS3 rom which is so finger friendly I almost never need the stylus.

IMO the best place to keep the stylus is on your keychain ready to be used for those non-finger friendly apps.

I too had the i760 and really loved it. Took awhile to get used to the touch screen keyboard on the Omnia but now im fast and accurate using spb fullscreen keyboard.

Still love the i760 but the Omnia in on a whole new level after updating to BW rom.

You guys think there will be an official 6.5 release soon? Some of the stuff the cookers are taking out of the program is stuff that I want, like the card reader. I actually use that.

Do you download BWs 6.5 and then order MS 3? Or is it all in one? Can you access your texts with 1-2 menus vs the 4 it takes stock?

Anyone got pics of the SPB keyboard program? How bout some pics from the 6.5 setup?

Adrynalyne has a "repo" site where he offers CABs to replace things he's taken out of the ROM. Some things like Touch Player apparently don't work when put back into WM 6.5. I put Office Mobile, Touch Player, and custom mouse cursors back into his v1.7 WM 6.1 over the CC20 leaked ROM.

P.S. on the keyboards, etc., there are free trials available for most things, even for Mobile Shell. Try before you buy! (Cootek Touchpal is worth a trial, too - takes a while to get used to XT9 keying and sliding but after you do, it's cool)
