Have any of you tried a program that will have course maps and use the GPS to show distance to the pin?

not recommending it becuase I've couldn't use it obviously, but you try freecaddie.com. They have two versions - one free and a pro one. Be curious to find out it it works as it would be the only reason I would upgade the ROM.
