Actually, if you look at at the FAQ

"•Can the Upgrade Process be Completed using x64 bit Microsoft Operating Systems?
◦Currently, the Upgrade Process is not compatible with x64 bit Microsoft operating systems."

Hope they decided that not supporting upgrades through 64-bit systems is a sign of major stupidity and decided to go back to the drawing board to fix it. But that's what virtual machines are for - they help take care of stupidity.

The instructions are available, but from what I can tell, the actual download still isn't accessible.

It looks to me like this is going to be the page loaded once the ROM becomes official... which isn't at this point yet

has anyone loaded it yet? Is it worth loading?

If you already flashed to a different ROM and unlocked, will this ROM brick your phone?

Honestly, this 6.5 build I am running is solid and I see no real need to downgrade at this point.

I'll be installing from Vista 32-bit later tonight... unfortunately the download is going too slow for my tastes (50KiB/s).

Notes on Official ROM upgrade

Interesting:

Update Process Overview

Installation Of Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5
Backup Data from the SCH-i910 to the Computer Using ActiveSync 4.5
Downloading of the Software Upgrade to the Phone
Verification of the Phone's Software Version

(my emphasis) - hopefully that's a gratuitous step just to make sure you're not trying to install it on an HTC Touch Pro or sump'n like that.....

I'm downloading it now. It says it'll delete all information off the phone, anyone know if this includes SD cards and/or the 8GB onboard or just the system storage?

Hmmm, I assume you did all the checks but just in case...

Try setting to com8 if that option is possible in google maps.
Also ensure the phone settings is set to location on and not just 911 only.

Otherwise, maybe VZW is handing us the shaft at no extra charge (except all the extra charges we are already broken in to...)

I'm curious also, did you upgrade from a cooked rom or the vzw one that comes with the phone? If a cooked rom, which one?

There was concern that the 'verify software version' part may cause mayhem with cooked roms.

Upgraded. It doesn't appear to have deleted anything off the memory card or the 8 GB onboard. I'm not having luck getting Garmin XT or Bing to find the GPS though. Is there a certain port I need to point Bing towards?

Tried com 8 on Bing, no luck. How do you change the phone setting from 911 only?

start/settings/phone/services/gps/change setting/
select location on

the above is not a path, but each thing you need to select in sequence

Did you upgrade from a cooked rom?
