GPS on Windows Live

I have the 6.5 ROM that unlocks the GPS. How do i get Windows Live to attached to the GPS? Google maps works for me, but Windows Live doesn't.

Thanks for any help.

which 6.5 rom are you using? I have been using adrynalyne's 6.5 roms since about built 3.7.x and live has worked fine. In the current 3.9 build it has been upgraded to bing, and again works fine. I just go to the gps settings and set it to com 8 and no prob.

I will say this though... you need to have a clear shot at the sky and it will take a couple minutes for live to get its first gps fix. Other than that it should be easy going.

Uh, I didn't try com8. I will try that.

I have adryn 3.7.1 build. what is the difference between the 3 build for adryn? Trying to figure out which one I should get for 3.9.

Vanilla
Base
M2D

Did you get it working?

3.8 and 3.9 are new builds of the betta OS. There is not alot of difference other than having the latest and greatest.

So between the three rom choices...

Base is just that. A very basic stripped down 6.5.
Vanilla is the "standard" 6.5 with alot of extra goodies packed into the rom. (basically its the base plus a ton of other great stuff)
m2d is a touchflo esque interface. It is essentially a replica of the HTC Touchpro's touchflo interface but built in to the 6.5 OS.

Personally I am using vanilla because of all the apps and what not included. And then i took the m2d cab from the file repo (2nd post of his 6.5 thread) and installed that over vanilla. The benefit here is that the m2d rom is very stripped down. Its just the base, plus the afora mentioned cab. With my set up I get all the vanilla goodies, plus I get m2d. I have the freedom to switch at will between the m2d theme and the "default" titanium theme.

This post is most specifically 6.5, but wanted to chime in here based on the title as to not create a bunch of parallel threads.

I just installed adryn's 1.7 rom of winmo 6.1. It is excellent. I was able to get my external bluetooth gps to work fine. However, my understanding is that the internal one should be enabled in this new rom.

I installed gpstoggle and it successfully toggles on/off. I attempted live search, go to the mapping applet and set gps settings to 'windows control'. It goes to getting position and then shows me in the atlantic ocean - right in the middle. Well, I'm in Utah, USA and not drowning, so this can't be right...

As well, when I select 'Locate me' on the home screen of windows live, I get an error - 'Sorry, we could not automatically detect your location. Your current location is Draper UT.' I set the draper, ut location manually on the top line of windows live.

I think the gps is working, just being kinda funky with the location.

Alright, just after posting, I noticed that the upgrade to bing from live search wasn't on there as I thought. I upgraded, and when it started, the locate me instantly went from 'locate me' to 'locating'. I will edit in a minute with it's results but have to go outside for a view of the sky...

No luck, with bing, I tried both the default 'com intermediate driver' and com8 ports, and it seems to be working, but still locates me in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

I also tried google maps with each of the com settings, but it just keeps saying it is trying but never locates me. It does have some little message thing of gps satus in the top right corner with a number in parenthesis that changes from 1 to 3 a couple times, but doesn't seem to mean anything.

My today screen shows gpstoggle having gps on and some bars that I believe indicate satellites in the sky.

Any recommendation for what to change? I thought there was a registry setting that could help. I am off to search but if anyone knows off the top of their head, please reply.

Thanks.

Weird thing happened. I had gps off using gps toggle. I had plugged my omnia into my usb cable and walked away. After about an hour, I noticed the screen was bright, which surprised me. I checked and the gpstoggle app on the today screen shows gps on with six green bars and the lock # is 7. I opened google maps and it found my location correctly instantly.

However, I closed google maps and opened bing and it just locks up tighter than a....

My new wiz-bang task switcher (I don't know what it is but it came with adryn's 6.1 1.7 rom and is totally cool) doesn't show any tasks running and also stops responding.

I did a soft reset and started google maps again (with gpstoggle showing gps off). It finds my location and says I have 7 active gps signals (I guess that's what it means) but the today screen gpstoggle app shows gps off. Kinda funky.

I then closed google maps, started bing and the map utility option 'track me using gps' works. Maybe it just needed lots of time to start working.

On the other hand, the 'locate me' thingy still just gives me the 'cannot automatically find' yada, yada, error.

I think the gpstoggle isn't really turning gps on/off but turning 'monitoring on the today screen' on/off.

I do have the phone gps setting to location and not 911 only. So maybe this turns the gps on always. How's that for battery life? I guess we'll see.

Well maybe I can clear the air with all these GPS questions.

First If you are using the cc20 base rom or any cooked variation of it (i.e. adrynalyne 1.7) you have no real use for an external gps. Internal is unlocked!

Second there is no need for any type of gps toggle. If you go to Settings-personal-phone-services-GPS and select LOCATION ON (not 911 only) then your gps is always active. Do not fret battery life. It is still fantastic.

Third apps like google maps and bing seem to like com8. So under the gps setting in each app, be sure to use com8.

Fourth is the locate me feature will not work in Bing. Simply use track me using GPS and in google maps select use gps.

Lastly, understand that our GPS is not flawless and can take a couple minutes to get a satelite fix. Once you have a fix it seems fairly accurate after that.

All of the above is accurate for myself and I can confirm gps is fully functional. I have used adrynanlyne 1.6 and 1.7 winmo 6.1 rom and this all was accurate. I have also used his 3.7.x and up winmo 6.5 roms and this again is true and accurate.

What com and baud rate combo do you guys think works best? I've gotten it to work sometimes, then the next time it doesn't. But i don't know if i switched settings or not.

When it doesn't work you have to wait for the signal to lock. It can take several minutes.
