i jsut picked up the omnia and so far i like it. does anybody know where i can download that unlock slide bar that the iphone has. i seen some video on youtube with it.
Do a Google Search for s2u2, it will come up at xda developers.
also is there a way that i can change out i want to view my contacts. i hate how it is alphabetized using the last name. could i change it so it goes by first name?

Several dialers, including the Omnia dialer that comes with the phone, have an XT9-like function. You just start typing the person's name on the phone pad, whatever you want, first or last name, and all the names with those letters are filtered out of your contacts list. You don't have to scroll or hunt anywhere. Voice Command is reasonably good, too, for speaking your contact's name to the phone. I can say my wife's name followed by "mobile" and the Omnia will dial her iPhone.
Desktop Outlook can order contacts by first or last name "John Brown" or "Brown, John". Haven't tried the Omnia/WM contacts but Pocket Informant allows you to order your contacts by First/Last, Last/First, by company, by department, by city, by state, by country, by category, etc. You can also look up Recent Contacts or Your Call Log from within contacts.
Maybe someone of this comes with the built-in programs - someone else can advise on that.

Your contacts aren't actually ordered by "Last Name, First Name" they are ordered by the "File As" field... it just so happens by default, contacts are filed with a "File As" of "Last Name, First Name."
If you want to change how contacts look, change the file as field. There is an option for "First Name Last Name"
I don't think there is a way to change it so that it always files contacts by default in that order on the phone... however in Outlook, it's a preference when you go to Tools -> Options and select the "Contact Options".
I usually edit my contacts in outlook just because it's easier and they just sync over. If you have that luxary, I'd do it that way and you can set your default file as.

when the people at verizon switched over my phone numbers from my old phone, on the omnia it shows it late name then first name. im not 100% clear on how i change the "file as" field or even to find that on the phone. could you give me a step by step on how i could do this. thanks
Go to Contacts (it should be in your Start Menu)
Select any contact.
Use the "Menu" softkey at the bottom to select "Edit"
That will take you to the screen to edit contacts.
"File As" is the 6th item down on the edit screen.
As I said previously though, if you have a large number of contacts it is much easier to do this with outlook if you have it. Sync your phone to your computer (or to an exchange server if that is your ultimate plan) and edit your contacts in Outlook. (This of course assumes you have outlook which you many not).

Great advice, olandir. I don't know how people audition/get picked for Moderator, but if you have any interest, you might want to get in contact with Miata492 (PM him) and see if he'd like some help.

Nah, power goes straight to my head and then I start sending people to the gallows... it's not a pretty sight.
May end up getting pummeled about the head for this but...
I'm looking at both the Omnia and the Touch Pro through Verizon Wireless. There are things that I like about both phones, but what really is pushing me is memory. I run out of RAM so quickly with my XV6800... I am wondering if people are having the same issue with 128 MB or if I should look at the Touch Pro (196 MB). All the spare memory is great, but if the RAM bogs down then the phone bogs down. What are peoples thoughts?

I'll start by saying that once you tweak a couple of the default settings (especially the location of Opera's cache and downloads) and learn to trust that you can install apps in the 8GB "My Storage", no one I know is complaining about running out of memory by a long shot. Not even close.

I haven't had much trouble with main system RAM and I have a ton of programs, some of them very large or consuming lots of RAM when they operate, e.g. Opera. But you do have to keep an eye out on Main Storage. It's possible to use it up in ways you don't realize. e.g. play a video from Windows Mobile.com - gets cached there without even asking. Many of us are using MemMaid. I prefer the form factor and no keyboard and as a hardware device the Omnia is ahead of the Touch Pro in many ways. Some reviewers have been unkind enough to say that the Touch Pro is just more of the same old whereas the Omnia breaks ground in new ways, e.g., almost a real digital camera, an FM radio. The screen on the Omnia could be better but everything a tradeoff against the price breakpoint. I'm sure both the Touch Pro and the Omnia are great devices. Try one and return it if you don't like it and get the other.
P.S. Don't know how much \My Storage you get on a Touch Pro but the 8 Gb you get on the Omnia goes a long way. My tests, which I have to post, show that it is faster than a 8 Gb class 6 microSDHC card. Just about every program can be put into \My Storage except for one or two like Spb Mobile Shell that insist on being in Main Memory. So there is no practical limit to the number of programs you can load onto an Omnia. I use Spb Pocket Plus X function to close out ~all programs between uses.

Programs Installed to My Storage or Storage Card eat Main Memory Storage, too

Even if you could put a program entirely into \My Storage or the storage card, each program consumes at least 50-70 bytes of Main Memory for its shortcut in the \\Windows\Start Menu\Programs directory. If you use MemMaid and pick Jump To->Storage->Installed Apps, for each program, you'll get a breakdown of how much storage it consumes overall and where its program files are installed. So, for example NetFront v3.5 consumes 5.49 Mb, but only 66 bytes are the Start Menu\Programs shortcut. Spb Keyboard consumes 2.31 Mb, about 400 kb in Main Memory storage. Windows Live 1.67 Mb, with 1.67 Mb in Main Memory storage. So sooner or later as the apps mount up, you're going to use up Main Memory storage. I have 52 apps installed by the count in Remove Programs and I am down to about 9 Mb of Main Memory storage.
Maybe we should have a thread devoted entirely to Tips & Tricks for moving Apps ~entirely to \My Storage or a storage card. If the secret is already posted in another thread, the Tip could just be a hyperlink to the thread(s) that explain how to move that particular app.

Reason: specify shortcut directory, add title
Yep - had numerous memory problems with past phones as well. Obviously best bet if you are a business have your rep get you both phones to test out for a week. If you are not able to swing that then get the one you think based on your research you will like the best "FIRST" - try and repeat. I have had some time with the TouchPro and if I was trying to do both full time email and phone on one device I would go this route over the 910 w/out question due in part to the dedicated kybd. In my case I want something a bit slimmer than my 760 but have no intention to use the 910 as a primary email device - the bb will be staying along for the ride.

Thanks for all of the replys. I have been looking hard at the Omnia for a little while now. I get frustrated when the MVPs (or whatever they were called) would say, "what do you need with extra memory for?" Ugh. I like to have a variety of software on my phone. Don't tell me what I want or need. I hate it when as I try to run programs and others get shut down because of lack of memory... Anyway, I'll be looking to get mine soon...
Bottom Line - if you turn off Push email (exchange active sync) battery life should be adequate for the majority of users (possibly excluding POWER POWER users).
Go ahead and pick one up - worst case you can return it if it does not fit your needs.
