Convergent has made Miata492 a moderator for this forum. I understand Lou (Miata492) has, or is going to get soon, an Omnia so look forward to his sage advice on using that device. I'll still check in when I can to help out with organizational issues in the forum. In the meantime, let's all give Lou a warm welcome..

Thank you very much Jay! I appreciate the warm welcome. Hopefully everyone here in the Omnia forum will find me helpful. I look forward to organizing all of the good info that has been and will be posted here. And true, of this minute, I do not have my Omnia, but will very shortly - I actually should be able to pick it up this afternoon. In the meantime I have been compiling a lot of information about the Omnia and scouring the web for all kinds of good stuff.
I plan on building an Omnia setup thread and building up the FAQ with the help of all the good people in here. Please dont hesistate to PM me for anything!
Thanks for taking on the job. With your handheld experience and IT background, I'm sure you'll do a great job. Hooray! At last this forum has a moderator. It looks as usual that we have a bunch of really decent, informed, and clever people hanging out here - not like some of the other forums there are out there. So I think we're all behind you 100% and will try to make your job sweet and easy.
Hey Chizzy! Good to see you here! I thought YOU would already have a custom ROM for us!!! Hopefully the GPS can get cracked soon too! I know I will be working on that ASAP.
Now, I am just waiting for Dell to send me my new motherboard for my notebook tomorrow - popped on me this morning so I am all out of whack! Needless to say I may be a little slow to respond I until I get back to normal tomorrow. Posting from a clients PC right now... Will be posting from my Redfly later. Celio better get the drivers for the Omnia ASAP!!!
Is there any reason that we have to be the i900 forum or could we maybe go for the Samsung i910 - Omnia forum? Or maybe better the Samsung i900/i910 Omnia forum? Just a suggestion.

I don't know the differences between the i900 and the i910 so I can't tell whether there should be one forum for both devices or two forums (one for each device). Lou, when you figure it, just send Convergent a PM and, I'm sure, he'll follow your recommendations.
Ironically, this evening my law partner told me he probably is going to break down and get an Omnia. He's still using his i730, but it's failing rapidly on him. I brought in my old i730 for him to use, but he's thinking it's time to upgrade. As much as I would love for him to switch to the iPhone, I don't think it's the right device for his needs. Specifically, he needs to be able to manipulate Excel documents on his phone, which the iPhone can't do yet. But I digress....

I think a good enough explanation to them is the i910 is for VerizonWireless and the i900 is for European companies. Also, the i900 is GSM only and the i910 is CDMA only. That should prompt them to change it. Also the i900 has a camera in the front of the phone but the i910 does not.
Jay, echew answered that perfectly. Something tells me this forum will definitely be geared more towards the actual i910 on Verizon. Especially since the i900/i908 variants are not "officially" available here in the states. We seem to have a big Verizon userbase here on pdaphonehome. It will definitely not hurt to name it as JimLewis did "Samsung i900/i910 Omnia forum".
Send your law partner in!!! This is gonna be a great phone - maybe you should trade in that Apple thing you have...
BTW: I will be back here in the forum much more after tonight - I have been without my laptop since yesterday morning (motherboard went). Plus I have been out on the road and a big mess without it. I am getting by using my Q9m and my Redfly plus using clients PC's. Cant wait to be back to normal! I also plan on finally picking up my Omnia tomorrow so I can play all weekend!
'll jump on the band wagon and say thank you to Lou. I've been reading posts from Lou back from the i730 days. What's up with everyone getting the iPhone. I won't even go there, but..... Grrrrrrr, I dislike Apple
Anywho, thanks to Jim for being the sort of temp moderator if you will.
I'd be so happy with Michael (MRailing) and SupaDave got an Omnia!

I'de second that, both were very valuable resources to the 730 community back in the day.
Just thought of another reason to have seperate forums that I realized while going through some other forums for the Omnia. People are downloading i900 cooked ROMs on their i910 and bricking the i910. I would think that once people here start to mess with that, we need to walk the fine line of seperating the two devices - if not for this reason alone!

thanks! and as far as the iPhone... well, we wont go there cuz we have the iPhone killer now!
and although superdave could always be a possibility, i dont think mrailing will be - he is way too into his sprint touch pro running on vzw!
Miata492, "I know this is a Q forum and the Q9N thread but...
Well after 2 full days and 2 long nights with the Omnia, I realize how "dumb" the WM Pro OS is! Well, OK, forgot, because I came to the Q's from a Samsung i730.
Why they just have not made the WM Standard OS "touch" also is beyond me. Honestly, WM Standard would make a much better touchscreen OS than Pro. I honestly beleive the only real, good, touchscreen phone is the iPhone with the Storm coming in a distant 2nd. WM Pro is just not finger friendly. It is if you are using 3rd party software like SPB Shell or Winterface, but once you get past those and you are into a regular WM program you pretty much have to use a stylus or on the Omnia, use the mouse cursor.
The Omnia is going back this afternoon. I am either sticking with my WM6.1 Q9m or may for the hec of it try the Storm. I really just want the Napolean! Just give me a Q with wifi (not on a sd card) so when I use my Redly the net rocks!
Rant over..."
Does this mean you won't be modding this site anymore?
I am on my 3rd Omnia (since this past Saturday) at this point mainly because of how terrible the signal strength is. I have gotten the Omnia setup pretty well at this point but if I cant receive calls then I have a big problem. I have had over 25 missed calls since then and I only knew I had missed calls because I use YouMail which sends me a text message everytime I have a missed call or voicemail. Never an indication on the Omnia itself. I have used all 3 Omnia's at both home, and at my biggest client in Long Island City, NY where I am 4 days per week and the bulk of my work comes from. As a test at my clients office I have had my Omnia(s) on my desk with my Q9m, 3 Storms, a BB 8830 and a Touch Pro (all VZW). All of them EXCEPT the Omnia(s) had full bars/signal and the EVDO indicator on - the Omnia had either one or no bars of signal and the 1x indicator. Mind you I did this with all 3 Omnia's. At home, I had the Omnia's next to my Q9m and my wifes Q. The Q's always have 1 or 2 bars there with EVDO, the Omnia gets no signal and I cannot send/receive any calls or emails from there. Out on the road in my car where I do about 700 miles per week the Omnia is always 1 or 2 bars behind the Q9m in signal and most of the time I have 1x service. Being that where I am everyday the battery life is horrendous because my phone is always looking for service. My battery is at 40% by 12 noon (wifi off, BT off when not in the car). My Q9m on the std battery with BT on all day is still at full battery at noon and starts to slowly drop later in the afternoon. If I do anything, I will try the Saga with the extended battery. Hopefully I can help out in here and in the i770 forum. I will be PM'ing Convergent to let him know what is going on. I am not getting a Storm, for sure. The BB OS is not me.
This was not exactly the review I had planned on writing about the Omnia! I had such high hope for it - I guess too high...
And oh yeah, I am still without my laptop (thanks Dell!) so I am still slumming it on borrowed PC's and my phone as far as forums and email go. Dell is replacing my MB for the 3rd time this afternoon. Lets hope the 3rd time is the charm!

I imagine you already have tried, but have you escalated your problem to the highest levels of tech support with Verizon? With your expertise, perhaps you could help us all out by really getting Verizon's attention on signal strength. There have been some other posts on signal strength, battery life, and of course the regedit for data connection timeout (to help preserve battery) http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/samsu...tml#post768824
but I think you're the first to make a pretty convincing argument that, Houston, we've (really) got a problem here. Hope Verizon fixes you up (and the rest of us, too!) because we sure would miss you as a moderator.
