Can you tell the difference in state, charge or discharge on the Vista machine? Before it seemed like if a phone was charging, you'd get the beep on connection, the Power light on the top of the phone would turn red, whatever battery icon you had would indicate charging, and if you go to the Power applet, it would say "Recharging state: Charging" I'd be curious to know if anyone thinks they have a phone that is DISCHARGING and it still says any of these things.
Maybe like Dangerous intimates, some of the problem comes from what OS or what computer you connect the phone to and not all USB ports are created equal?
I haven't really been paying much attention to this thread, but i will say this: If my phone is USB connect to my XP machine at work it will always charge the phone. If I connect it to my Vista Machine, maybe it will charge the phone and (more often then not) it will Discharge the phone.
I also have a Car Charge (VZW one) it charges without a problem.
I'm running ADRrynalane 6.5 v3.8.1 i think, plus cooking my own occaisonally.
Dangerous, I don't want to take the thread too far off topic but I have a quick ROM question. I'm currently running Adryn's 6.1 1.6. I'm trying to decide whether to move to 1.7 or try his 6.5 v3.8.1. As I have a lot of apps to reinstall after flashing, I hesitate want to do both so can I ask a question?
What's been your experience with 6.5? First, do all your apps run OK? Second, is it a better (faster/stable) alternative to a 6.1? Third, are you using the ROM's "stock" user interface or running a shell like SPM Mobile Shell?
I've been under the impression that 6.5 was more about the UI than anything else but I may be mistaken.
Even Adrynalyne himself posted this when he first released 6.5:
"If you want fast and stable, go with my 6.1 rom. If you want bleeding edge, and aren't afraid of getting a few cuts (from a machette), try this."
Since then though, a lot of time has gone by (relatively for this topic) and many upgrades have issued.
It's not the OS, the USB charge may be lower than the power you are using on the phone depending if you're using it as a modem or what you have running on it. This will deplete the battery even though it's "charging"
So I took a chance and purchased one of the i900 extended batteries (3000mAH) for my US Omnia (i910). As expected upon installing the battery, I received the standard message "Non Supported Battery! See User Manual." Searched and searched for a way to charge the battery while installed in the phone. I figured there would be a registry hack or other way to charge the battery. Obviously no such luck.
Finally started looking at the dock/external chargers. There is a model that will charge your phone and a second battery. After finding one for a good price, less than $40 shipped, I placed the order. Upon arrival, I set it up and eagerly placed the i900 extended battery in the additional battery charging station. It worked without any issues and I now have an extended battery that works great with my Omnia.
Obviously there are shortcomings with this setup as I have to take the external dock with me if I need to charge the external battery. However, I was out of town this last weekend and the phone ran a full 48 hours with the extended battery. Used the GPS quite a bit, streamed music over bluetooth and placed only a few calls. So, if you are looking for a way to use the extended battery, there you go.
