set the Ime File value from \windows\XT9ime.dll to compime.dll
soft reset device.
it will autocomplete, but you have to put a space after however many characters you have your suggested letters set at. soemtimes you have to delete the space to get the autocomplete.
ok so if u try the above instructions it will work but when you go to SMS it will only autocomplete with an email address. to get a phone number i went back to the reg setting on my i760 and pulled the DLL and copied over to the omnia. now it populates with phone numbers. i was hoping this would fix having to enter a space and then delete to get suggestions but it didnt seem to make a difference.
basically rename the attached file to .dll from .txt
copy to \windows on your phone
goto registry
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e001 0409\Ime File
set the Ime File value to \windows\IME_34Q_PPC.dll
soft reset device
i would also go to SETTINGS > INPUT > WORD COMPLETION
and change the suggest after entering to either "1 letter" or "a space"

I'm having a hard time finding where the file needs to be. Am I over thinking this or is this just too advanced?

Maybe this will help a little.
1. Download the file and rename it to IME_34Q_PPC.dll
2. Place that file into your \Windows directory on your phone (Not storage)
3. Use a registry editing program to change a specific entry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e001 0409\
Open the Ime File and change the last part to read IME_34Q_PPC.dll
4. Soft Reset your Phone.
How do I get phm on my Omnia? When I try to open the file (PHMRegEdit)from the phone, it says "There is no application associate with PHMRegEdit..."
I can install the program on my computer. And it apparently does access somewhat on my Omnia. But I most be missing something.
Can someone provide the link to the program that works, and keep in mind apparently that I have the intellect of a 5 year old (step by step, please).

Here you go.
Rename the file to .cab instead of .txt, then upload it directly to your phones storage. After you install it, it should place the icon in your programs menu.
but again, how would a newb get the auto complete on my email?
Step by step

Ok not sure I understand the question. You are asking how to type a new email/SMS and have your phone auto complete the address or phone number for you?
Then you came to the right place! This is exactly what we are talking about. Follow all the above instructions and either download the file johntchow provided for us in post #2 "IME_34Q_PPC.dll", or follow his steps in post #1 and use "compime.dll". Actually the steps are the same, just compime.dll is already in your phone so all you have to do is rename the Reg entry.
If you follow these steps it should allow you to type an email and have the phone auto complete the "TO" field for you. NOTE: you may have to type a couple letters and then hit back space before it will auto complete. Also go into "Settings" in your phone & click on "Input" and then "Word Completion" tab. Make sure you have "a space" selected in the drop down and "Suggest is set to "1" word.
Sorry, yest the auto completion for the email address is what I am looking for.
it all depends on what you have set for your auto susggestion settings. if you check your auto complete and its set for like 2 letters then when you go to compose a SMS or email type in 2 letters then hit the space then hit backspace. youll get your choices for auto complete.
for me i changed the work complete to 1 letter so that way i just hit M and then space and then backspace and i will all the M contacts in my contacts list that start with the letter M.

for those of you who like the T9 autocomplete/predictive type feature and still want the ability to autocpomplete your sms/email TO: then try this keyboard replacement:
its pretty intuitive and i think the predictiveness is better than the stock T9 was. there are also other cool keyhboard features like finger sweeping the touchscreen for more options and the site also offers a quick tutorial.
i installed this in my storage and it doesnt conflict with the hack in this thread so you get the best of both worlds.
I haven't wanted to try this work around because i wasn't using the default mail app for SMS. I've since dumped SMS-Chat and I'm using the default client.
I did notice, by accident, that when your cursor is in the TO: field and you press the return key, it takes you to your contact list. Saves a step vs pressing Menu>Add Recipient and it's easier to hit with a finger.
It also works in MMS and Email. Might be useful for anyone who doesn't want to disable the xt9.
